'Quarterback' review: What did we learn about Jared Goff in the series' 2nd season?

Netflix released the second season of its "Quarterback" series on Tuesday, featuring an inside look at the 2024 season through the eyes of Jared Goff, Joe Burrow, and Kirk Cousins.
One of the clips released before the new season aired featured the Detroit Lions quarterback reminiscing on his calls with head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes when he was first traded to the team in 2021. The rest of the season follows the ups and downs Goff experienced as he led the team to a 15-2 season and a disappointing playoff loss.
SPOILER ALERT: The following observations contain spoilers from Season 2 of "Quarterback."
Goff says Rams blindsided him
Goff didn't hold back when talking about his conversations on the side of the Los Angeles Rams who threw him into their trade deal with the Lions for Matthew Stafford.
"Three weeks after the last game of the season, get a call from Sean [McVay] and really did not expect anything," Goff said. "He lets me know they're trading me to Detroit and I'm like, 'Whoa, okay, alright. What the hell? What's happening?' I would say about 30 seconds after that phone call, it was on Twitter."
The Rams traded Goff with two first-round picks and a third-round pick in exchange for Stafford. The Rams went on to win the Super Bowl the following season.
"You wish that it wasn't such a blindside and that there was some sort of maturity, I guess, to have that conversation and to be able to let me know what was going on and how things went down. And why this is happening. It was my first real taste of true adversity and your career is kind of at a fork in the road."
He admitted the playoff win against the Rams in 2023 had something a little extra since it was his former team.
Amon-Ra St. Brown should've been No. 16
In an alternate universe somewhere, Lions' wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is wearing No. 16.
In Episode 2, St. Brown's girlfriend, Brooklyn Adams, admitted to Christen Goff that when it came time for St. Brown to pick a number, she was supposed to count the number of receivers who were drafted ahead of him in 2021.
"I messed up, and it's not 14," Adams said. "I was off by two."
The Netflix crew talked to St. Brown about it, and he said he should've chosen No. 16, but that Goff looks better in it.
Christen helps Jared memorize play calls
Goff's play-call tutor at home is his wife, Christen. He said the couple will sit on the couch to relax and watch TV, but Christen will sit there with a play sheet and read the plays off for him to repeat and practice.
During Episode 3, Christen reads off a few wordy, outrageous-sounding plays for him to repeat, including the one that the following week saw running back David Montgomery throw a touchdown against the Titans.
Inside the Stumblebum
When the story of the 2024 season reached the Lions' late-December matchup with the Bears in Chicago, Netflix caught all of the build-up and reaction to the infamous "stumblebum" play that saw Goff and Jahmyr Gibbs purposely tumble in the backfield before Goff uncorked a pass to Sam LaPorta for a touchdown.
The Netflix crew took viewers to the week of practice before the game, showing the offense practicing the trick play to iron out the kinks. Goff at one point said he almost actually fell to the ground.
"Don't tell me that," then-offensive coordinator Ben Johnson said.
During practice, they fine-tuned the play to include Gibbs taking a dive and having the offensive line call out "fumble" to throw off the defender meant to be watching LaPorta.
"That boy needs an acting job, huh?" wide receiver Jameson Williams said after the play worked to perfection during the game.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'FUBAR' canceled at Netflix after 2 seasons

The series, which first debuted on Netflix in 2023, marked the first leading role for the actor on a scripted television show. Turns out, he won't be back. Arnold Schwarzenegger's action series FUBAR will not be returning for a third season at Netflix, Entertainment Weekly can confirm. A source adds that the streamer is proud of the work that producers, cast, and crew put into the show. The series, which first debuted on Netflix in 2023, marked the first leading role for the actor on a scripted television show. The first season was a ratings hit, according to the streamer, but the second season apparently had a much quieter debut in June. (According to Variety, season 2 made Nielsen's streaming originals top 10 only for the week of June 16, and fell off thereafter.) Per the logline, FUBAR follows a father and daughter who learn that they've each secretly been working as CIA Operatives for years. The two then realize their entire relationship has been a lie and that they truly don't know one another at all. Forced to team up as partners, the series tackles universal family dynamics against a global backdrop of spies, action, and humor. In a statement ahead of the series premiere, creator, showrunner, and executive producer Nick Santora called the show "by far, the most surreal project of my career." He continued, "I grew up watching Arnold Schwarzenegger films — I'd hit my dad up for a few bucks so I could race to the movies and see the biggest star in the world on the big screen — so creating the first scripted television project for Arnold is unbelievably exciting for me." Santora added, "The thing I always marveled at was how Schwarzenegger could be funny while still kicking ass ... that's why I wanted FUBAR to be a hysterical, CIA-spy comedy mixed with heart-stopping action! And it is all that — and more. I'd love to elaborate with more details, but, sorry, it's classified." In addition to Schwarzenegger, FUBAR also starred Monica Barbaro, Milan Carter, Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, Fabiana Udenio, Aparna Brielle, Guy Burnet, Andy Buckley, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jay Baruchel, Barbara Eve Harris, and Scott Thompson. In addition to Santora, Schwarzenegger, Adam Higgs, Scott Sullivan, Phil Abraham, Amy Pocha, Seth Cohen and Skydance's David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell served as additional executive producers. Skydance Television produced. While FUBAR wasn't so lucky, Netflix has renewed several shows of late, including: Wednesday, Untamed, Tires, Ransom Canyon, Virgin River, Bridgerton, Forever, Four Seasons, The Diplomat, My Life with the Walter Boys, Survival of the Thickest, Geek Girl, Lincoln Lawyer, Sweet Magnolias, Devil May Cry, Beauty in Black, Nobody Wants This, A Man on the Inside, and The Vince Staples Show. Arnold Schwarzenegger's ‘FUBAR' Canceled at Netflix After Two Seasons

FUBAR has been canceled after two seasons, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. News of the show's cancellation arrived Friday night after its streaming ratings notably declined between season premieres. After debuting on Netflix at No.1 on Nielsen's streaming charts during its premiere week two years ago in May 22-28 with 1.53 billion minutes of viewing, season two accumulated 412 million viewing minutes this year during the week of June 9-15. During its premiere week, the series landed at No. 8 among Netflix's original shows for its second season. The action comedy starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Oscar nominee Monica Barbaro, who portray a father-daughter spy duo. Season two saw the addition of Carrie-Anne Moss, who plays a former fling of Schwarzenegger's Luke Brunner. The cast also included Milan Carter, Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, Fabiana Udenio, Aparna Brielle, Guy Burnet, Andy Buckley, Jay Baruchel, Barbara Eve Harris and Scott Thompson. The official logline for season two reads, 'Luke Brunner (Schwarzenegger) is a veteran CIA operative who, up until recently, was on the verge of retirement. After his last mission in saving another operative — who just so happened to be his daughter (Barbaro) — he's back and face to face with new villains. This one is an old flame from Luke's past (Moss) who threatens to destroy the world … if she doesn't destroy his life first.' Of joining FUBAR during season two, Moss told THR that 'getting to work with Arnold was epic for me.' 'I don't know if I've ever had more fun on a job working with Arnold and doing the dance stuff and the fight stuff and then all the acting, and then the sitting between takes and talking about all kinds of things,' she added. KPop Demon Hunters star says chart success doesn't feel real

One of the stars of animated sensation KPop Demon Hunters says the movie's success "feels like a dream". The film, about a fictional girl band who live a double life defending humanity from a supernatural threat, has become Netflix's most-watched animated film ever since its release in June. Upbeat anthem Golden, one of the standout songs from its soundtrack, leapt three places to take the number one spot in the Official UK Singles Chart from Justin Bieber in this week's top 40. Ejae, who co-wrote and performed the track, tells BBC Newsbeat she has been "honoured" by its success. "It's like I'm surfing for the first time and a big wave just came through," she says. "And I'm trying my best to get through it." Ejae provides the singing voice of Rumi, one-third of girl band HUNTR/X. As well as performing some of the soundtrack's songs, she also co-wrote Your Idol, How It's Done and the Hunter's Mantra. She tells Newsbeat ending up on the final recordings was an "organic process". "I've been singing all the demos while writing the songs," she says. "I guess we got used to me singing it. And they were like: 'Hey, do you want to sing?' "I was just like: 'Why not?'" Ejae says the outpouring of support has been "overwhelming". She gained almost 100,000 Instagram followers in a month and says she's been getting used to the spotlight instead of "working behind the scenes". The KPop Demon Hunters crew knew Golden was a "banger" when they wrote it, she says, but had no idea how huge it would become. But Ejae has an idea as to why the song has captured so many fans. "I think we're in a time right now where we need hope and people are wanting that," she says. "And this song is very hopeful, it just lifts your voice and it's a very powerful song. "I think maybe that's what people need right now." According to the Official Charts Company, it's the first K-pop single to top the UK chart since PSY's Gangnam Style in 2012. Its editor Carl Smith tells Newsbeat it's a "sign of how popular K-pop is right now". Golden is performed in the film by girl band HUNTR/X, consisting of Rumi, Mira and Zoey. They face off against demon boyband the Saja Boys - whose single Your Idol climbed to number 10 in this week's chart. Carl says both songs are "amazing pop songs with great melodies" and the film also allows fans to "visualise their new favourite band". The last time an animated film soundtrack reached number one was when single We Don't Talk About Bruno, from Disney's Encanto, held the top spot for seven weeks in early 2022. Carl thinks Golden could have similar staying power. "It could possibly be the song of the summer," he says. "I think its popularity transcends generations." Katy, who runs K-pop site Hallyu Doing, tells Newsbeat the success of KPop Demon Hunters is exciting for UK fans. "I'm seeing people who are not K-pop fans that have seen the movie and are now looking into K-pop artists for real that they want to go and see," she says. Elsewhere in the charts, Drake and Central Cee scored the week's highest new entry with their collab Which One landing at number four. And music from Ozzy Osbourne, whose funeral was held in Birmingham this week, continued to climb the charts after his death. Black Sabbath's Paranoid climbed 12 places to the top 20, while Ozzy's solo track Crazy Train hit number 25 - its highest-ever position in the UK.
