And to keep costs down, she gave herself a budget of just £500 to transform her new caravan into something special. Once it was safely parked on their drive, the real fun started. The caravan was a sight for sore eyes when she got it into her driveway, the outside was covered in mould and green algae that Hayley had to scrub off. One of the biggest money-saving wins came from a £6.99 pack of green gingham tea towels she picked up from TK Maxx. Hayley was looking for some small curtains for the bathroom's tiny window and transformed the tea towels into curtains. "Sometimes I think a little imagination goes a long way, you don't have to buy everything new or the 'best' to make something look nice ," she says. Another great find was a small tub of kitchen paint from Poundstretcher for £3.50. The small tub may not be enough for a kitchen in a home, but it was just the right amount for the small kitchen in the caravan. When asked about the DIY process, Hayley says painting was hands-down the easiest and most satisfying part. 'I love a job where you can instantly see the before and after,' she says. But it wasn't all smooth sailing. She says the flooring was definitely the trickiest part. "I used individual stick-on planks, and cutting around the furniture was so fiddly. Not hard—just time-consuming," she explains. How much does it cost to live in a caravan? LIVING in a caravan can be an economical and flexible lifestyle choice in the UK. She removed the old cushion covers in the living room and switched them with a white fabric for a more modern feel. Hayley also bought cheap floral stick-on wallpaper from Amazon for just £8.99 to finish off the room. Now, all that is left for Hayley is to paint the outside of the caravan. And she is thrilled to say that she managed to change the caravan while staying below her £500 budget. 'I haven't added up the exact total yet,' she admits. 'Last time I checked, I'd only spent around £350. "We still need to paint the outside, but I reckon the whole thing will come in at around £450—still under budget!' Hayley adds: "This is the second caravan I've renovated and I've loved every second. "A third project is definitely on the cards—maybe even a campervan next time.'

I went to the ‘world's best waterpark' just three hours from the UK and it's like being on another planet
DESPITE most of my friends having never heard of it, the indoor waterpark Aquascope has been named the 'best waterpark in the world' - so I had to find out for myself. Eight miles north of Poitiers in France, there are three things that make this water park stand out from the crowd. It is also is on the same site as major French attraction Futuroscope, if you wanted more theme park elements. But by far the most appealing thing about Aquascope is that it combines its hardcore water features with truly impressive tech effects, so it feels, in the words of my youngest, 'like you're swimming around inside a cool video game'. Two spiral stairways, each signposting a route to the top of a different slide. Everyone carries their inflatable rafts up (depending on the slide, there are four-seater inflatables, two-seaters; one-seaters; mats with handlebars; and slides that you don't need any accessory for). You can even watch through the transparent tubes, showing you the people ahead of you squealing down. We counted eight slides in total, each offering a completely different thrill. 'Quick' was exactly as it sounds, a short sharp bolt with one free-fall funnel stretch. After four goes, I lost count of how many times we waited in line for that one. The most adrenaline-pumping? For us, that was a toss-up between 'Spiral', a 130m of giddy twists, nail-biting speed, and deep-pool plunge. Advertisement And 'Rocket', where you step inside a space capsule and count down to lift-off when the floor disappears beneath your feet. The most impressive thing about Aquascope was that in addition to the crazy slides there's a totally different change of pace and vibe at Aquascope's Abysses-de-Lumière, an underworld of fairytale caves and canyons. There is also an outdoor section with a hotel-style pool where I managed to get my sun-lounger fix for a while. Little ones meanwhile will be in their element in the minis zone with water maze, overhead soakers and a musical grotto. As for Futuroscope next-door, that was surprising, because if you thought that a virtual-reality ride couldn't be as exhilarating as a rollercoaster, Futuroscope will make you eat your words. Advertisement In 'Extraordinary Journey' for example you whizz at breakneck speed around all the world's sights, sounds and even smells without leaving your seat. It's just one of Futuroscope's 40 experiences, some of the type you'd expect at a theme park ('Destination Mars' your rollercoaster, brand-new 'Mission Bermuda' your aqua-flume),. We couldn't get enough of Tornado Chasers (flee the storm before it swallows you!) and Robot Dance (its arm throwing you around to the DJ's beat drop). The verdict? For us the combination of speed and special effects was a winning formula and so worth the drive.
