In a troubling civil lawsuit filed in Harris County, Texas, Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden finds himself under legal and public scrutiny, not for his direct involvement in a crime, but for what the plaintiff calls his "negligence".
The case stems from a New Year's Eve party hosted at Harden's Houston mansion in December 2024, where a woman, Marisa Watley, alleges she was r*ped by Harden's nephew, Justice Armani Blackburn, while unconscious. Harden is now being sued for allegedly failing to prevent the incident by his personal security team.
What is James Harden accused of and why?
The complaint, filed by Marisa Watley and first obtained by The Athletic, outlines serious allegations of s*xual assault against Blackburn and claims of negligence on James Harden's part for what occurred under his roof.
While the lawsuit does not accuse Harden of assault, it states that he is 'vicariously liable for the actions of his guards and their corporate employer', both of whom are also named defendants.
Watley alleges the following series of events unfolded at the party—
Watley and two friends, referred to as Jane and Emily, arrived at Harden's party after being invited to the 'studio' area of his Houston mansion.
Justice Armani Blackburn, Harden's nephew, offered them drinks from a bottle, after which they all lost consciousness.
Watley claims her memory became 'extremely hazy,' but she recalls Blackburn urging her to go somewhere with him.
She later remembers being 'shocked into consciousness' during the assault, describing herself as being 'in a dream-like state' and 'not fully awake.'
The lawsuit further alleges that Harden's in-home security staff removed Watley's two friends from the residence, even as they pleaded that Watley was still inside.

Her sister, Elaina, was contacted by the friends, and she, in turn, reached out to Harden's sister, the mother of Blackburn.
Elaina submitted a photo of Watley to Harden's security team. According to the complaint, they falsely claimed that the woman inside with Blackburn was not Watley.
Watley's legal team said Harden's security staff could have prevented the r*pe had they acted appropriately. 'Since New Year's Day, when I reported the r*pe by Mr.
Blackburn to the police, I have remained puzzled by how Mr. Harden's security behaved that day—it is painful to imagine that this all could have been stopped in time,' Watley said in a statement released through her attorneys. 'I hope this complaint pushes security employees generally to act more responsibly when women are in danger.

The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and demands economic, compensatory, and punitive damages. Watley's attorneys, Michael J. Willemin, John S. Crain, Jay Ellwanger, and Kaylyn Betts, shared the gravity of the situation: 'Ms. Watley has shown great strength and courage in coming forward to hold Mr. Blackburn and Mr. Harden accountable for what happened to her on New Year's Day 2025 in Mr. Harden's mansion. This r*pe was immediately reported to the police, and we will bring Mr.
Blackburn and Mr. Harden to justice through the civil justice system.'
Harden or his representatives have not commented on the alleged lawsuit as of yet.

'Let Bibi go': Trump slams Netanyahu trial as ‘witch hunt'; warns of stalled Hamas, Iran talks

Trump slams Netanyahu trial as 'witch hunt'; warns of stalled Hamas, Iran talks US President Donald Trump has lashed out at Israeli prosecutors for what he describes as a 'POLITICAL WITCH HUNT' against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump in his recent post on Truth Social defended Netanyahu, describing him as a "War Hero" and praising his leadership, especially in working closely with the US to counter Iran's nuclear ambitions. He credited Netanyahu with playing a key role in what he called a "Great Success" in curbing Iran's nuclear threat. 'It is terrible what they are doing in Israel to Bibi Netanyahu. He is a War Hero, and a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring Great Success in getting rid of the dangerous Nuclear threat in Iran.', Trump wrote. Highlighting the Israeli leader's current diplomatic efforts, Trump emphasized that Netanyahu is in the middle of crucial negotiations with Hamas aimed at securing the release of hostages. He questioned how someone in such a high-stakes position could be expected to "sit in a Courtroom all day long" over what he described as trivial matters—mockingly referencing items like 'Cigars' and even a 'Bugs Bunny Doll' to downplay the severity of the charges. He ended his statement with a rallying cry of support for Netanyahu: 'We just had a Great Victory with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu at the helm — And this greatly tarnishes our Victory. LET BIBI GO, HE'S GOT A BIG JOB TO DO!' This isn't the first time Trump has criticized Netanyahu's trial. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Order New Blinds Online & Get $199 Home Installation Learn More Undo Just last week, he made a similar statement following the implementation of the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Why is Netanyahu facing courtroom trial ? Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently facing several corruption charges, first filed in 2019, including bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. In the first case, Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, are accused of accepting over $260,000 in luxury items—such as cigars, champagne, and jewelry—from wealthy businessmen in return for political favors. The two remaining cases claim he sought to secure more favorable media coverage from prominent Israeli news outlets. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison. Since the trial began in May 2020, it has seen numerous delays, many of which were requested by Netanyahu himself—initially citing the conflict in Gaza, followed by the escalation in Lebanon. Prime accused Monojit's one-liner for every girl: ‘Tui amay biye korbi?'

1 2 3 Kolkata: The key accused in the law college rape, Monojit Mishra, also known as Mango, always had a predilection for sexual depravity and violence with marked psychopathic tendencies, said a cross-section of his college juniors and batchmates. His conversation starter "Tui amay biye korbi (Will you marry me)?" with the 24-year-old collegian he raped on the campus on Wednesday was not the first time he had asked the question. Mishra, ousted from the college's Trinamool unit in 2021, had posed the same question to "many other girls" on the campus. A college insider said Monojit used to morph pictures of girls and circulate them among his friends. "He filmed private moments with women and showed it to his friends. He had a tendency to record videos of almost everything. He and his aides used to click photographs of women and post them in groups, body shaming them and maligning them," she said. The party had been alerted about this but no action had followed. A third-year student told TOI: "The college authorities knew everything, and they gave full support to Mango. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thị trường có dấu hiệu suy thoái không? A proper sexual harassment complaint was submitted to the teacher-in-charge, but no action was taken. No one at this college is safe." A first-year student whom TOI reached out to sounded very scared and stated that while the college had proper infrastructure for healthy academics, political influence had spoiled the atmosphere. "Those who are attached to the union have a licence to do anything they want. Monojit was the administrator of all the WhatsApp groups where important notices were posted and he could add and remove anyone at his discretion. Posting photographs of our female friends and making filthy jokes were normal practices, and we had to remain silent as they wielded power. He had free access everywhere on the campus, including staff rooms and administrative rooms. Students used to go to him to solve college-related issues." A few current students revealed that they were so traumatised and scared of him that they had stopped going to college. "A few of us took part in the 'Reclaim the Night' movement last year. Monojit called us, threatened us, and beat some of us for taking part in the protest," said a student. "He used to openly say that nothing will happen to him as he has access to political netas. This impunity gave him a free hand to do anything. He behaved like the boss of the college; teachers and guards were scared of him. He was an ad-hoc staff member but stayed at the college till late at night," said an insider. An alumnus added: "When I entered the college in 2016, we were particularly told to avoid a few people, and one of them was Manojit Mishra." A daughter of a judge spent just six months at the college, and those few months were enough to rattle her. "He studied with us but surprisingly, he was in the same class for 10 years, just to stay in the college. Complaints were filed against him several times at the Gariahat police station for harassment but nothing happened," she said.

DLSA identifies 1,200 destitute kids to connect them with govt schemes

Ranchi: The district legal services authority (DLSA), Ranchi, has identified around 1,200 destitute children under SAATHI programme for linking them to Aadhaar and subsequently to various social welfare schemes of the state administration, an official said on Saturday. According to the DLSA official, SAATHI — Survey for Aadhar and Access to Tracking and Holistic Inclusion — is being implemented by the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority in the state under the auspices of the National Legal Services Authority. The survey covers minors who are living on streets, slums and railway stations, orphans, abandoned children, those rescued from trafficking, begging and child labour, missing children not restored to families and others. DSLA Ranchi secretary Ravi Kumar Bhaskar said, "The phase for identifying the children from May 26 to June 26 is complete in Ranchi district. We have identified around 1,200 children but if more come up during the process of linking them with Aadhar and covering them under various government schemes, they will also be added." He also said during the identification exercise, sensitization programmes were held from block to the district levels with villagers, sahiyas, mukhiyas local representatives and block development officers taking part in them. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Forget Furosemide, Use This Household Item To Help Drain Edema Fluid WellnessGuide Learn more Undo In the next phase of the camps between June 27 and August 5 would be held for providing Aadhaar cards and wherever required, birth certificates would be issued to the children so that they could be linked to welfare schemes. The DLSA would coordinate with women and child development, social welfare and education departments to ensure various govt benefits apart from school admissions and health check-ups. Notably, the state govt is implementing a sponsorship scheme under which a person or institution takes up responsibility for children and Ashram Yojna for providing food and accommodation to them. It also provides Scholarship Yojna for financial aid to the poor and destitute. The DLSA would also conduct community dialogue to reduce stigma against orphans and institutionalized children.
