With the India-UK Free Trade Agreement in mind, reports are emerging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to travel to the United Kingdom on July 23-24. According to a report by CNN News18, the visit by the prime minister could see both sides formally ink the landmark India-UK free trade deal and discuss expanding bilateral security ties.
Sources close to the matter said that the deal is likely to take about a year to become effective. In May this year, India and the UK agreed to a landmark deal that is expected to benefit 99 per cent of Indian exports from tariffs and will make it easier for British firms to export whisky, cars and other products to India.
STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
The deal intends to boost the overall trade between the two nations amid global uncertainties due to the Trump tariffs. In the past, PM Modi described the trade pact as a 'historic milestone' to catalyse trade, investment, growth and job creation in both economies. The trade would overall deepen the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership.
PM Modi to visit the Maldives after the UK
According to CNN News18, after the prime minister visits the UK, he will be heading to the Maldives as India and the island nation repair their strained relations. The prime minister will travel to the Maldives on July 25 for a two-day visit where he will be the chief guest at the country's 60th National Day celebrations.
Maldives President, Mohamed Muizzu, had extended an invitation to PM Modi to attend the occasion. It is pertinent to note that this will be PM Modi's first visit to the country since the bilateral ties nosedived due to the ' India Out' campaign by some Maldivian politicians. Muizzu's pro-China stance also did not help the cause.
In light of this, the Maldives' government is seeking to mend ties with India. The invitation was seen as a bid to do the same. The visit is seen as an important change to clear up the ongoing issues between the two nations and strengthen cooperation.
The visit would also reflect India's commitment to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy in the Indian Ocean region. The prime minister last visited the Maldives for a one-on-one meeting with the then-president in June 2019.

Sotefin Bharat plans ₹80 crore IPO to build parking robot unit for automated parking in Bengal
Swiss automated parking solutions major Sotefin SA's Indian subsidiary, Sotefin Bharat, on Sunday said it will hit the capital market to raise ₹80 crore to support indigenous manufacturing of robots for automated parking systems in West Bengal. The entire issue will be a fresh equity offer, with no stake dilution by the promoters or existing PE funds, a top company official said. "We are in the process of launching an IPO, which will help us become Atmanirbhar in the production of robots used in automated parking systems. The robot manufacturing facility will require around ₹40 crore, while the remaining ₹40 crore will be largely used for debt reduction and enhancing working capital to undertake larger projects," Sotefin Bharat Managing Director & CEO Arup Choudhuri told PTI. The company has announced a new manufacturing facility at Bagnan in West Bengal's Howrah district, entailing an investment of approximately ₹40 crore. Once fully operational with in-house robotic manufacturing capabilities, the state-of-the-art plant is expected to create over 100 jobs and significantly boost Sotefin Bharat's production capacity, Choudhuri said. The facility is projected to support the creation of over 10,000 automated car parks or 25 automated parking projects per year, he added. The equity structure of the company is evenly held by two Indian promoters-Arup Choudhuri and Jignesh Sanghvi-Swiss partner Sotefin SA, and a clutch of PE funds, each holding 25 per cent. Post IPO, the fresh issue will dilute all existing promoter holdings by 6.25 per cent, taking public shareholding to nearly 25-26 per cent, Choudhuri said. The listing will also help unlock value, and the company is currently working with merchant bankers to prepare the Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP), which is expected to be filed with the regulator within a month. The company has also started exporting its systems to the US and Dubai, officials said. "Our order book currently stands at ₹1,000 crore, which should support a 50-60 per cent growth over the next 3-4 years," said Executive Director Jignesh Sanghvi.

Op Sindoor proved there is no safe haven for terrorists, enemies of India: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Operation Sindoor showed the world the way India would respond if its sovereignty was attacked and that the cross-border military offensive has created a new self-confidence across the country. Operation Sindoor also proved that for enemies and terrorists targeting India, there is no safe haven, Modi said in his address at an event here to honour the Chola emperor Rajendra Chola. The event marks the birth anniversary of the iconic Chola king Rajendra Chola-I which is celebrated as the 'Aadi Thiruvathirai' (the birth star of the king is Thiruvathirai in the Tamil month of Aadi) festival. Regarding Operation Sindoor, 'the world saw how India responds if someone attacks its security and sovereignty.' 'Operation Sindoor proved that for enemies of India, for terrorists, there is no safe haven. When I came here from the helipad, the 3-4 km distance suddenly became a roadshow, and everyone was praising Op Sindoor.' 'Operation sindoor has created a new awakening, a new self-confidence across the country. The world has to realise India's strength,' the PM asserted. Modi further said the names of emperors Raja Raja Chola, and his son Rajendra Chola-I are synonymous with India's identity and pride and announced that grand statues would be built for them in Tamil Nadu. These statues will be 'modern pillars of our historic awakening,' he added. Further, Modi said several people spoke about UK's Magna Carta while commenting on democracy. However, the Chola-era 'Kudavolai system' predated it, he said. The system followed during the Chola era was over a 1,000 years ago.
