India-UK Free Trade Agreement: PM Modi may visit London next week, deal likely to be signed

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the UK to formally ink the India-UK Free Trade Agreement. After London, the prime minister would embark on a two-day visit to the Maldives. read more Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart Keir Starmer. Modi, who annoiunced the Free Trade Agreement on social media, said he is looking forward to welcoming Starmer to India. Reuters With the India-UK Free Trade Agreement in mind, reports are emerging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to travel to the United Kingdom on July 23-24. According to a report by CNN News18, the visit by the prime minister could see both sides formally ink the landmark India-UK free trade deal and discuss expanding bilateral security ties. Sources close to the matter said that the deal is likely to take about a year to become effective. In May this year, India and the UK agreed to a landmark deal that is expected to benefit 99 per cent of Indian exports from tariffs and will make it easier for British firms to export whisky, cars and other products to India. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The deal intends to boost the overall trade between the two nations amid global uncertainties due to the Trump tariffs. In the past, PM Modi described the trade pact as a 'historic milestone' to catalyse trade, investment, growth and job creation in both economies. The trade would overall deepen the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership. PM Modi to visit the Maldives after the UK According to CNN News18, after the prime minister visits the UK, he will be heading to the Maldives as India and the island nation repair their strained relations. The prime minister will travel to the Maldives on July 25 for a two-day visit where he will be the chief guest at the country's 60th National Day celebrations. Maldives President, Mohamed Muizzu, had extended an invitation to PM Modi to attend the occasion. It is pertinent to note that this will be PM Modi's first visit to the country since the bilateral ties nosedived due to the ' India Out' campaign by some Maldivian politicians. Muizzu's pro-China stance also did not help the cause. In light of this, the Maldives' government is seeking to mend ties with India. The invitation was seen as a bid to do the same. The visit is seen as an important change to clear up the ongoing issues between the two nations and strengthen cooperation. The visit would also reflect India's commitment to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy in the Indian Ocean region. The prime minister last visited the Maldives for a one-on-one meeting with the then-president in June 2019.

Radhika Yadav deactivated Instagram account: Music video partner Inaam Ul Haq reveals final conversation with Tennis star

Radhika Yadav , who was allegedly killed by her father Deepak, had deactivated her account after the release of music video titled 'Karwaan', revealed co-star Inaam Ul Haq. "Radhika was just a co-star. I was only shooting a video with her — it was a jewellery shoot for a company. She came with her mother, and we had no personal connection; she was a stranger to me. After the video was released, she deactivated her account and never responded to my messages — this was around four or five months ago. Radhika didn't even promote the video," Inaam Ul Haq told CNN News18. All about the music video angle A day after 25-year-old tennis coach Radhika Yadav was shot dead allegedly by her father at their Sushant Lok residence in Gurgaon, a music video starring her surfaced online. The video — a romantic track titled Karwaan — was released in 2024 under the LLF Records label. Radhika appeared in a lead role, with Zeeshan Ahmad producing the video and independent artist INAAM featuring in the song. Live Events Police have confirmed they are examining all possible motives in the murder, including whether Radhika's involvement in the music video played a role in the conflict at home. 'This angle is also being investigated,' said a police official familiar with the case. The crime took place around 2pm on Thursday. According to police, Radhika was in the kitchen on the first floor of their two-storey home when her father, Deepak Yadav (49), allegedly fired five rounds from his licensed .32 bore revolver. Three bullets struck Radhika in the back, killing her on the spot. Deepak, a native of Wazirabad village, was arrested soon after and later confessed to the crime. During interrogation, he allegedly told police that he was often taunted for being financially dependent on his daughter, which led to rising tensions within the household. Investigators are now piecing together family dynamics and examining Radhika's professional and personal life, including her role in the music video, to understand the full picture behind the murder. Birth of BrahMos: How the Gulf War ignited Dr A S Pillai's vision for one of India's deadliest missile

Dr A Sivathanu Pillai , often regarded as the brain behind the BrahMos missile , recently shared how the Gulf War in the 1990s sparked the idea of developing a supersonic cruise missile in India, that can reach 300 km within minutes and cause damage to the runways. "So I went to Harvard in 1991. That was the time when that Gulf War was taking place. So my attention turned towards the Gulf War. And finally I found out the Tomahawk played a very crucial role there. So to destroy the assets of the enemy, to disable them, you need a cruise missile," Pillai said in an exclusive interview with CNN News 18. "So then I spoke to Dr. Kalam from there, saying that we need a cruise missile. So then he said, after you complete your course, let us discuss. So we did that. Then he suggested this, you have already you are working with the Russians. Why don't you ask them? They may have the basic technology and help you. So I went to Russia, talked to them," added Pillai. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 얼굴 기미, 어쩔 수 없다며 그냥 방치하시나요? 기미전문가 정민주 더 알아보기 "So the director general, Dr. G. A. Yefremov said this, we are the only people in the whole world to have a supersonic engine. If you use that engine, your missile is a cruise missile will become a supersonic cruise missile. So I was just attracted by that," said Pillai. Pillai added that Dr Dr. G. A. Yefremov showed the engine and discussed the details. "And we found that a number of tests have been done and it is fully ready. And when we wanted to take the technology for engine to India and then do it like what we have done in space, you know, we have taken the technology of the engine and then we improved it and we did all these things," added Pilai. Live Events "So then there is no point in taking one piece. So then we said that we will work together. So we formed a joint team with Mr. Venugopalan, a propulsion expert from DRDL," said Pillai. All about India's powerful missile: The BrahMos missile is a two-stage weapon developed jointly by India's DRDO and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia. Its name is a blend of two rivers — India's Brahmaputra and Russia's Moskva — symbolising the Indo-Russian partnership. The missile launches with a solid-fuel booster which detaches after take-off. A liquid-fuelled ramjet engine then propels it at speeds approaching Mach 3. It can cruise at altitudes of up to 15 km and strike as low as 10 metres above the ground. It is designed to follow a "fire and forget" principle — once launched, no further guidance is required. The missile's low radar signature and high kinetic energy make it especially difficult to intercept.
