After unexpectedly falling to the fifth round, Shedeur Sanders could have pouted and aired his thoughts out on social media. None of that happened; in fact, the former Colorado Buffaloes star took everything in stride.
Sanders put his head down and got to work, and his Cleveland Browns' coaches have noticed that work ethic. Furthermore, Browns' front office members believe Sanders has a legitimate shot to be the Week 1 starter, per ESPN's Kimberley A. Martin.
On Wednesday, Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees became the latest coach to highlight the rookie quarterback's attitude since coming into an NFL building.
"He's worked his tail off," Rees said about Sanders. "He's really put in a lot of work, as all those guys are. You can tell on the mental side of the game, learning the system, calling it and having that rhythm to it, he's put a lot of work and time and effort into that. When you do that, the game starts to slow down and you can focus on finding completions. He's done a nice job of that as camp progresses."
With three other quarterbacks fighting for the top quarterback job in Cleveland and him being a fifth-round selection, Sanders's only option is to work hard and hope his talent eventually prevails. Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett have NFL starts in their pocket, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel was drafted two rounds earlier, placing even more pressure on Sanders to perform during practices.
So far, Sanders' performances have been impressive, even if he is not receiving many first-team reps. ESPN Cleveland had Sanders completing 9-of-14 passes for three touchdowns and an interception during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 team drills at Wednesday's practice.
Cleveland wraps up its OTAs this Friday ahead of mandatory veteran minicamp starting next week. All rookies will have roughly a month and a half off before the Browns begin training camp in late July, when the quarterback battle should heat up even more.

Entering the 2025 season, defensive back Kameron Howard, one could argue, might be a bit of an unknown across the Alabama Crimson Tide fanbase. A transfer from Charlotte last offseason, Howard came out of high school unranked nationally as a recruit, and was then a later add to Alabama's transfer class a year ago who did not receive as much hype as some of the additional names in the group. Howard also did not play much with the Crimson Tide a year ago as well, but could that potentially change in year two this fall? Here is a look at everything you need to know about Alabama defensive back Kameron Howard ahead of the 2025 season. Kameron Howard player information Kameron Howard career stats Howard will be entering his third season of college football this fall, with the defensive back having split the previous two between Charlotte and Alabama. Over those two seasons, Howard has appeared in 16 games, two of which he started, with 40 tackles, one TFL, two interceptions, and one PD. Kameron Howard 2024 stats Howard's 2024 season was his first at Alabama, appearing in only four games as a backup. Over those four games, Howard had only two tackles. Kameron Howard recruiting ranking Prior to beginning his collegiate career at Charlotte, Howard was unranked as a prospect in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, out of national power St. Francis Academy in Maryland. Before coming to Alabama, Howard was rated by 247Sports as a three-star transfer, as well as the No. 912 overall player and No. 97 safety in the portal prior to committing to the Crimson Tide in April 2024. At safety, Alabama has two players cemented as starters entering the 2025 season in Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard, meaning that Howard likely projects as a backup this fall. However, there are also others in that same conversation alongside Howard such as Zavier Mincey and Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., meaning that the former Charlotte transfer will be competing for playing time among that group as well. Overall, expect Howard to play a depth role defensively in 2025 as a redshirt sophomore, and for the safety to also potentially see time on special teams. — Dennis Hanson, Maine It's going to be better, for a few reasons. The Patriots are better at right and left tackle than they were last year, provided Moses can stay healthy and Campbell can settle in and develop consistency at left tackle. Jared Wilson has proven himself to be NFL-ready at left guard. They've asked Onwenu to do too much in recent years, but if you keep him at one spot (right guard), I'm confident he'll have a bounce-back year. Enter Email Sign Up How much better? That remains to be seen. The last couple of years have seen a perfect storm of poor coaching, health issues, and ineffective play. He's managed to distinguish himself in a number of ways over the first week-plus of training camp, including staying on the field through some withering heat. There's still time between now and the opener, but he's at the top of the depth chart there. What's the most overrated unit on the team, and what's the most underrated? — Michael, Everett I wouldn't go so far as to call them overrated. I don't know if you can have an overrated part of a team that's won eight games in two years. But I'd like to see more out of the offensive line. It feels like they have a good handle on the guard spots with Onwenu and Wilson, but there's still a lot of uncertainty at tackle and center. I don't know if it's just facing a really good defensive front every day, or that the offensive line is struggling. We should know more when joint practices kick off. Players such as Hunter Henry, Robert Spillane, and Jack Gibbens are consistent but not overly splashy, and will play big roles this season. DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism, and hopefully Ja'Lynn Polk will see snaps in three- and four-receiver sets. Of the others, is there any trade value at all? Or will teams just laugh and wait for cutdown day? — Adam LaPierre, France Diggs will be your No. 1 receiver. Douglas is well-positioned to be No. 2, for a variety of reasons, My guess? Boutte is a wild card whose chances of making the roster swing day to day. Bourne and Polk appear to be the favorites to make it, while they try to figure out a way to keep Boutte, Baker, and Chism. (Maybe you can get one of them through to the practice squad, and the others gets a case of the Foxborough Flu and go on IR?) The trade value at the end of that depth chart could very well depend on preseason performance. For example, if Boutte or Baker flash in the joint practice and game against Washington, and the Commanders need depth after a possible Terry McLaurin trade, dealing one of them for a Day 3 pick might be possible. Steelers' Aaron Rodgers says Jared Allen is true single-season sack leader, not T.J. Watt
Aaron Rodgers may be letting his nostalgia for the NFC North get the better of him — as he recently supported Hall of Fame Vikings edge rusher Jared Allen as the single-season sack leader over his Steelers teammate T.J. Watt. In a recent congratulatory message posted on the Vikings' YouTube channel, Rodgers paid his respects to Allen for his Hall of Fame induction— but at the expense of Watt's 22.5 single-season sack-tying record in 2021. "You are the all-time single-season sack leader," Rodgers said in his message to Allen. "I don't care what the numbers say, because that phantom bull***t sack they took away from you would give you the record. So, in my book, and probably in most Vikings fans' books, you're the all-time single-season sack leader, my friend." Allen, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame last Thursday, also believes he owns the single-season sack record — arguing that Watt's record-tying 22.5 sacks in '17 games' fall short of his would-be 23. Allen officially totaled 22 sacks in 2011, just a half-sack shy of the record — but both he and Rodgers are wrong about who truly owns the sack record. Not only did Watt tie the single-season sack record in just 15 games — one fewer than it took Allen to reach 22 sacks — but the Steelers star edge rusher was also seemingly cheated out of a sack in Week 18, which would have put him at 23.5 — half a sack more than the Hall of Famer's wishful 23. Rodgers' gesture to his former NFC North is kind in nature — but "phantom" sacks aren't listed in the record books — and even if they were, Watt would still be atop the mountain.
