Lisa Kudrow says her Friends character Phoebe ‘was so far from who I am'
US actress Lisa Kudrow has said it was 'a lot of work' playing her Friends character Phoebe Buffay as she 'was so far from who I was as a human being'.
The 61-year-old from Los Angeles played one of six friends featured in the hit US sitcom which also starred Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt Le Blanc and the late Matthew Perry.
Speaking to US actress Parker Posey for Variety's Actors On Actors series, she said: 'It (the series) was fun the whole time, because we had fun, the cast had fun.
'It was like a collaboration with the writers, because they were so great and nice and good.
'But me being Phoebe was so far from who I was as a human being that it was work.
'I needed to justify everything she was saying in my head so that it felt like she meant it and it was real to her. It was a lot of work.
'And I remember like season two or three, and I was just doing it, and went, 'Oh my god, I'm not doing the work. I don't know if this is going as well. I'm not doing the work'.
'I was really fretting over it. And (Matt) LeBlanc went, 'What's the matter with you?'. I said, 'I'm not doing the work that I did. I used to like really work, and he said, 'You're her. You don't have to do it anymore'.'
Alongside her role in Friends, Kudrow is known for starring in a number of TV series as well as comedy films Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and The Opposite Of Sex.
In 2023 she thanked her late co-star Perry for 'the best 10 years a person gets to have' while filming Friends in a tribute following his death at the age of 54.
During their conversation, Posey, who has starred in films including Dazed And Confused and Superman Returns, spoke about one of her more recent roles playing a southern woman called Victoria Ratliff in season three of Mike White's dark comedy, The White Lotus.
She said: 'It was such a gift to have this middle-aged woman at this time in my life, in my career, to be the southern woman.
'I was reading Tennessee Williams in junior high and high school and southern writers and all of this. So I was like, I just ate it up.'

Matthew Goode reveals 'really dark' pitch that torpedoed his James Bond audition
Hollywood star Matthew Goode has opened up about his disastrous pitch for James Bond, which went so badlythathe never even got to audition for the role. Matthew, 47, was one of a handful of actors reportedly in the running for 2006's Casino Royale, along with Henry Cavill, Rupert Friend and Sam Worthington. However, Matthew didn't get much further than his meeting with franchise producer Barbara Broccoli – putting himself out of the running by pitching Bond as an alcoholic drug addict who 'hates himself' and 'hates women.' Reflecting on his own vision of 007, Matthew has spoken of where it all went wrong. In an interview with Variety, Matthew said: 'I didn't audition. I went in and met Barbara [Broccoli]. 'It was quite a funny one because — and she's gorgeous and just a lovely, lovely person — she was like, 'So what's your idea for Bond?' 'And I was like, 'My idea for Bond. We've gotta take it back to the books, you know? Really, we absolutely have to make this guy an alcoholic, a drug addict. He hates himself. He hates women. He hates a lot of people. He's in deep pain. He's brilliant at killing people.'' And that, according to Matthew, is where his journey ended. 'I think by the end of the interview, she was like, 'Mhmm. Next.' 'I wanted to make it really dark, but what I should have said was, 'But also incredibly charming.'' After failing to score a licence to kill, Matthew went on to star in Zack Snyder's superhero adaptation Watchmen, in which he played the scheming Ozymandias. Since then, he has appeared as Henry Talbot in the period drama Downton Abbey, and as Toby Armstrong-Jones in The Crown. His film work includes the comedy drama Cemetery Junction and comedy-spy prequel The King's Man, both of which featured Bond star Ralph Fiennes, who appeared as M opposite Daniel Craig. Matthew can currently be found starring in the crime drama Dept. Q for Netflix, where he plays disgraced detective Carl Morck. As for Bond, the hunt is now on for Daniel Craig's replacement following the appointment of Denis Villeneuve to direct the next entry in the franchise. The Dune director has promised that the franchise is in good hands, saying: 'Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. 'I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory.' He described the opportunity 'a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour.' The studio has reportedly narrowed their search for the next Bond down to three names, according to Variety. More Trending It's also said that Amazon MGM are seeking a British actor under the age of 30. As such, Saltburn star Jacob Elordi, the MCU's Tom Holland and Babygirl star Harris Dickinson are all said to be under consideration. After separating from her husband due to his ongoing drug use, she ended up having a drunken one-night stand with someone else. Now she's back with her ex — and not only is she's pregnant, she has the unshakeable feeling it's not his. I'm in my mid-thirties and have been married for eight years to a guy I met on holiday. He comes from Manchester, I'm from London, and he moved to be with me. We married quite quickly but so far don't have children, although he's always said he wants them. The reason I held off is because he used to be a major coke-head, and I never thought he was ready for babies until he grew out of his partying ways. Although he promised to quit, I've caught him out a couple of times and he had to admit to still doing it. Let's assume the doctor can tell with some degree of accuracy, that the baby is your husband's. Should you confess your fling? Only you know how he's likely to react, but if there's zero chance of him ever finding out then honestly, I would say nothing. When faced with a choice between 'bad' or 'worse', sometimes honesty isn't always the best policy. You weren't even together at the time. Maybe the guilt is too much for you or you're worried that DNA technology will give you away at some point in the future, in which case you must sit your husband down and tell him about your drunken fling. Wrexham FC co-owner Rob McElhenney's wife and his It's Sunny in Philadelphia co-star Kaitlin Olson claimed the couple's kids are not in favour of the name change Wrexham FC co-owner Rob McElhenney has filed documents to legally change his name. The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, whose character in the show is known as Mac, wants to be known .by the name Rob Mac in real-life, according to documents filed in Los Angeles. The shortened versions of his first and last names are a far cry from his full title of Robert McElhenney III. He first mentioned his intention to change his name in an interview with US outlet Variety in May, telling them: 'As our business and our storytelling is expanding into other regions of the world and other languages in which my name is even harder to pronounce, I'm just going by Rob Mac. McElhenney's wife and It's Sunny in Philadelphia co-star Kaitlin Olson has said the couple's kids are not in favour of the change and suggested she is also concerned about it. She said: 'The kids are really not happy about it because they have that last name. And so do I, legally!'. He launched private company 'More Better Industries' in 2024, and was part owner of Philadelphia bar 'Mac's Tavern,' which announced Monday it was closing after 15 years in business. McElhenney, 48, and fellow Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, 48, bought Wrexham football club in 2021. They have since been credited with a 50 per cent surge in visitors to the Welsh city after charting the club's rise to the Championship on Disney+ series Welcome to Wrexham. The show is a big hit in the US, where last month alone more than 300,000 people searched for Wrexham content on internet site Reddit. Tourism chiefs say it is part of the set-jet trend inspired by what people see on TV.
