India's flexi staffing industry grew by 9.7 pc in FY25, added 1.39 lakh new jobs: Report
Despite global uncertainties, trade wars and a cautious hiring environment in the last quarter, the sector added 1.39 lakh new formal flexi workers in the financial year, taking the total workforce employed by Indian Staffing Federation (ISF) members to 1.8 million as of March 2025, according to the latest annual report released by the ISF.
The report shows that the general flexi staffing segment saw a strong 9.8 per cent increase in net new employment over the year, even though there was a 2.6 per cent dip in the fourth quarter (Q4) due to seasonal slowdown and global headwinds.
Key sectors like FMCG, retail, e-commerce, logistics, and energy were the major contributors to this annual growth.
Commenting on the findings, ISF President Lohit Bhatia said that despite economic pressures caused by global events and changes in India's banking system, the staffing industry has continued to create formal job opportunities, especially for freshers and first-time job seekers.
He noted that staffing remains a critical tool for companies to maintain efficiency while offering structured employment options.
The IT staffing segment also showed signs of recovery after a challenging three-year period post-Covid.
The sector reported a 7.8 per cent YoY growth and a 2.3 per cent rise in Q4 alone.
Manmeet Singh, Vice President of ISF, explained that this growth was supported by rising demand from Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and increasing project activities in service sectors.
Industries such as e-commerce, logistics, FMCG and manufacturing also contributed to this growth.
Singh added that digital transformation across sectors, growing focus on cybersecurity, and increasing adoption of emerging technologies like AI helped drive the positive momentum in IT staffing.
Budget utilisation and project closures towards the end of the fiscal year further boosted the demand for tech professionals.
ISF's Executive Director Suchita Dutta emphasised that the Federation and its members remain committed to increasing formal employment even in tough economic times.

PMO greenlights GST revamp; All eyes on council
The Prime Minister's Office has given in-principle go-ahead for a significant recast of the goods and services tax ( GST ) framework, setting the stage for the first major overhaul of the levy rolled out eight years ago, people familiar with the development said. A proposal in this regard may be moved for the consideration of the GST Council , the apex decision-making body for the indirect tax, at its upcoming meeting in August after the monsoon session of parliament. The finance ministry will reach out to states to build a political consensus on taking the reforms forward. It has already begun inter-ministerial consultations with key stakeholder departments on the proposed move, said the people cited. The revamp will cover both slab changes and procedural simplification to give relief to consumers as well as businesses, they said. A ministerial panel has been mandated by the GST Council to look at the rate rationalisation but it has made little headway. Industry has over the past few months made a strong case to the government for a recast of the GST framework including rates, slabs and procedures, while flagging numerous pain points. Fewer Slabs Proposed Lawmakers across party lines have also highlighted issues related to GST and the need to address them. GST currently has five key slabs — nil, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28% — and two — 0.25% and 3% — for bullion. The 5% slab has about 21% of all goods under GST. The 12% slab has 19% of items, while the 18% slab has 44% of items. The highest rate of 28% covers 3% of total goods. A key proposal being examined is scrapping the 12% slab and moving items to the 5% or 18% slabs. Detailed discussions have been held at the highest level in the government and policymakers are of the view that a simplified GST regime could give a further boost to the economy, said one of the persons. The time is opportune for the recast with the tax structure stabilising and macroeconomic fundamentals being in robust health, he said. Given that free trade agreements with advanced economies are on the cards, the government is keen to ensure that local industry does not face any constraints in scaling up to take advantage of the accords. A revamp of the income tax law is already imminent with the bill slated for the monsoon session. A compensation cess is levied on some so-called sin goods, including cigarettes and automobiles, in the top 28% slab, introduced to compensate states for any possible revenue loss due to GST transition for five years until June 2022. The cess was extended until March 31, 2026, to repay the interest and principal on the ₹2.69 lakh crore that the Centre had borrowed on behalf of states during the Covid period to meet the deficit in the cess fund. A separate ministerial panel has been tasked by the GST Council to look at the use of the surplus in the cess fund and the way ahead on that front.

Luka Doncic (Image via Getty) As the Los Angeles Lakers embark on a new chapter led by Luka Doncic , questions loom about the franchise's long-term plans. Despite the excitement surrounding Doncic's blockbuster arrival, a cloud of uncertainty has emerged due to the lack of movement on a contract extension. However, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst is urging Lakers fans to remain calm. Luka Doncic's Arrival Sparks a New Era in Los Angeles Lakers Luka Doncic's move to the Lakers, following a monumental trade that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas, has reshaped the team's identity. The 25-year-old superstar made an immediate impact in his debut season with the purple and gold, averaging 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game. His stellar performance helped the Lakers return to the playoffs, although they were eliminated earlier than expected by the Timberwolves. As the offseason unfolds, fans are fixated on one question: when will Doncic sign a contract extension? Why Concern Has Built Around Luka Doncic's Contract Talks The anxiety among Lakers faithful is growing, especially with reports that Luka Doncic is eligible for a lucrative extension—either a four-year, $229 million deal or a shorter three-year option worth $165 million. Rumors of delays and silence have left fans uneasy, particularly with LeBron James stepping back from his long-standing leadership role in the organization. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Some fear the franchise's future hinges on Doncic's commitment. Why Brian Windhorst Tells Lakers Fans 'Do Not Freak Out' In an effort to calm the storm, Brian Windhorst addressed the situation on ESPN, reminding fans that Doncic is currently representing Slovenia in the EuroBasket tournament. 'He's currently playing for the Slovenian national team. Don't be alarmed if there are no updates on Luka's contract until September,' Windhorst said. He emphasized that contract discussions will likely resume after Doncic's international obligations conclude. A Common Delay, Not a Crisis According to insiders, this delay isn't unusual for international stars with summer commitments. The Lakers are reportedly giving Luka Doncic space and flexibility—both as a sign of respect and strategic patience. Negotiations are expected to accelerate in September once EuroBasket wraps up. There's also speculation that Doncic may pursue a shorter contract with a player option to maintain leverage, a growing trend among NBA superstars aiming for future flexibility. A Franchise Built Around Luka With new ownership under Mark Walter and the post-LeBron transition underway, the Lakers have clearly identified Doncic as their future. Reports suggest the franchise is fully committed to building around him and offering a deal that reflects his value and leadership potential. For now, the lack of contract news isn't a red flag—it's simply part of a long-term plan to usher in a new era of Lakers greatness. Another ride option for gig workers, office-goers in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: The city's gig workers, who often juggle long distances and tight delivery windows, have got another ride option. After a three-year hiatus, Bounce is back with a revamped scooter rental model that's being positioned as a no-frills mobility option — particularly for those working in delivery and other informal sectors. Rebranded as Bounce Daily, the service no longer offers the old dockless format, where riders can pick up and drop scooters anywhere in the city. Instead, it now operates through six designated hubs — Banaswadi, Hoodi, Yelahanka, HSR Layout, JP Nagar and RR Nagar — from where scooters can be rented for periods ranging from three days to an entire month, and must be returned to the same location. Bounce CEO Vivekananda Hallekere said: "Our first target is gig workers and office-goers. This is a practical solution for people who rely on two-wheelers for their livelihood." Each scooter is manufactured by Bounce and features tamper-proof batteries, location tracking and insurance cover — designed to deter misuse and improve reliability. Before Covid-19, the company offered dockless mobility, operating nearly 30,000 scooters and catering to over 1.2 lakh riders daily in the city. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Buenos Aires (ver precio) Verisure Más información Undo But it suffered from misuse, illegal parking and operational chaos. Post-pandemic, it is taking a more structured approach. "We're not ruling out the old "pick anywhere, drop anywhere model". But it will come back only with stronger user checks, better tech, and perhaps, a community-led referral system," Hallekere pointed out. The company is also exploring integration with dark stores of food and quick-commerce companies, offering doorstep rentals for gig workers. Bounce's electric shift positions it differently from competitors — it's now a battery-swapping, insured and fully electric rental service.
