Efforts must be made to preserve Haldhar Nag's writings, says Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
BARGARH: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday described eminent Koshali poet Haldhar Nag as 'a shining jewel of India and a symbol of Odisha's identity, emotion, and expression'.
Addressing a two-day national seminar titled 'Haldhar - Sajan Aar Darshan,' he said the poet's contribution to enriching Sambalpuri language and literature is unparalleled and continues to inspire generations.
Organised jointly by Abhimanyu Sahitya Sansad, Ghens, and Krishna Vikash Group of Institutions, Bargarh, the seminar marked a significant effort to take Sambalpuri literature to a pan-Indian platform.
The multilingual event saw attendance by literary scholars from both within and outside Odisha. It brought together scholars, researchers, and literary enthusiasts from across the country to delve into the cultural and philosophical legacy of the iconic poet, often hailed as the pride and poetic spirit of Odisha.
Describing Nag's work as rich in philosophy and deeply rooted in cultural wisdom, Pradhan stressed the need for broader efforts to preserve and promote his writings at all levels.
'Literature is a tool that activates the consciousness of an individual. It constantly stirs intellectual waves and builds new emotions. While not everyone becomes a writer, literature resides in everyone. Its need is universal,' said Pradhan while addressing the gathering.
He further emphasised the importance of imparting education in mother tongues to nurture original thinking and creativity among students.
On the occasion, several books, anthologies, and collections based on Haldhar Nag's life and literary works were unveiled. Higher Education and Culture minister Suraj Suryabanshi, local MPs, MLAs, and public representatives were also present at the inaugural session.

Korba (Chhattisgarh) [India], June 30 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, on his visit to Dipka mines in Chattisgarh highlighted that displacement is the biggest hurdle in mining area and it is not carried out timely, then the target of coal production cannot be achieved. The minister expressed this while visiting Dipka mines of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) on Monday. On the occasion, the minister planted a sapling as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign and also laid the foundation stone of the security complex. Meanwhile, the minister closely took stock of the works and felicitated the workers of the mines. Speaking to ANI, the minister said that the biggest hurdle in this mining area (referring to Dipka) is displacement, and the Chhattisgarh government is supporting this task very well. The target of coal production cannot be achieved if displacement does not take place timely. Officials have detailed how they are working tirelessly to establish coordination in the displacement of people and ensure their rehabilitation at different places. While visiting Dipka viewpoint, the minister reviewed mine production, productivity and operations, engaging in detailed discussion with officials. Dubey was detailed about the project's progress, production capacity and future plans. 'The target of coal production was less last year because the availability of land was lower. This time, we have adequate land, and this will result in achieving the target and progressing further,' said Dubey. The minister further said that the coal sector has a vital role to play in building an 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. Under the visionary leadership of PM Modi, the coal sector has achieved unprecedented progress, where once there were concerns about coal shortages, today, power plants have abundant coal reserves, ensuring uninterrupted energy production. Alongside coal production, special emphasis is being laid on green mining and environmental sustainability. Coal India is also actively working in the domain of critical minerals. SECL's contribution in meeting the nation's energy requirements is highly commendable, and the company is also at the forefront of social responsibility. Upon his arrival in Raipur, the minister paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and they discussed accelerating land acquisition and rehabilitation processes for the expansion of coal projects in Chhattisgarh. Rename Old Delhi Railway Station after Maharaja Agrasen: CM Rekha Gupta to Ashwini Vaishnaw
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta wrote to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 1 to request that the Old Delhi Railway Station be renamed Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station. "I am writing to respectfully request your kind consideration for renaming the Old Delhi Railway Station in honour of Maharaja Agrasen, a revered historical figure whose legacy has had a profound impact on the socio-economic development of India, particularly in Delhi," Gupta wrote in the letter to Vaishnav, news agency ANI said. In the letter, the Chief Minister said Maharaja Agrasen is regarded as a symbol of social justice and welfare and has played a pivotal role in shaping Delhi. "Maharaja Agrasen is widely regarded as a symbol of social justice, economic foresight, and community welfare. His countless followers and descendants continue to play a pivotal role in shaping Delhi's economic and cultural landscape," she wrote. She said remaining the railway station would be a fitting tribute to the Maharaja Agrasen. "Renaming the Old Delhi Railway Station as Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station would serve as a fitting tribute to his enduring contributions and would deeply resonate with the sentiments of millions of Delhi residents who hold him in the highest esteem.
