Gozney's Gorgeous, Compact Pizza Oven Won't Make It Up Everest (Probably)
With the Tread, Gozney wants us to take our sourdough calzone on tour. Measuring 16.5" x 19.1" x 12.6", it is undeniably compact for a fully featured pizza oven, and the two large handles make it easier (and cleaner) to move than most. The gas-only design can hit 932 degrees Fahrenheit (500 degrees Celsius) and has space for a 12-inch pie.
Can it compete with the best pizza ovens available, and at 29.7 pounds, is it really portable enough to take with you? I spent a few weeks both carb- and trunk-loading to find out. Portable? Really?
For all the gorgeous marketing images of the Tread in the desert, on mountains and in remote locations, it's worth noting that my review unit arrived on a full-sized wooden pallet. Admittedly Gozney did supply me with every conceivable extra, but it was still quite an eye-opening amount of gear for something billed as not just portable, but the "world's most portable pizza oven.'

29.7 pounds is roughly the same weight as an SUV tire or a typical three-year-old. While not back-breakingly heavy, nobody wants to spend all that long carrying something so awkward.
The pizza oven is an impressively compact unit, and ideal if you're a tailgater whose idea of wilderness is the parking lot, but once you factor in the gas canister (they recommend a 5-11-kilogram tank), tripod stand, pizza peel, and all the other accoutrements needed to make pizza away from home, the real-world logistics start to mount.
Looking at the competition, the Ooni Koda 12 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is quite a bit lighter than the Tread at 20.4 pounds, but also larger, at 24.4 x 15.5 x 11.7 inches. That light weight is a consideration when you realize that reviews editor Adrienne So has strapped pizza ovens as big as the Ooni Karu 16 (9/10, WIRED Recommends) to paddleboards to take them out to islands in the middle lakes.
Ooni's carry covers are also much cheaper than the Tread's Venture Bag ($99) and the ovens come with legs, so you don't need to take a stand. If you're heading anywhere with uneven ground, however, the Gozney stand is much more versatile (more on that later).

Food trucks in the Keys and Kendall are named among the best in the country
A food truck in the Florida Keys was just named among the top 10 best food trucks in the country — and two other food trucks from Key Largo and Kendall made the top 100 list, too. Yelp recently released its annual list of the Top 100 Food Trucks in the U.S., and Mike's BBQ 101 in Key Largo was ranked no. 9, the only Florida food truck to crack the top 10. The barbecue served there by Mike Porcari, who co-owns the truck with his wife Aparecida De Souza, is traditional Texas barbecue, with an emphasis on brisket and ribs (but don't sleep on the pulled pork, according to the Yelpers). He's pleased with the ranking, if a little surprised. 'This whole Yelp thing came out of nowhere,' says Porcari, who is a veteran of the Broward barbecue spots Blue Willy's and Smoke BBQ and calls himself a barbecue purist. 'It's so cool. I do a really good business here. It's all built on hard work, but there's also a little bit of luck and magic involved.' Porcari, who also operates the smashburger truck Dani and Mike's 102 in the General Store parking lot at 102700 Overseas Hwy., has been at the same spot — the parking lot of the Key Largo attraction Dolphins Plus — for eight and a half years. The early years involved a lot of commuting: He and his wife, who lived in Deerfield Beach, had to drive to the Keys daily. After two years, they had enough money to rent an efficiency in Homestead and slept there when they needed to. Now, they have a place in the Keys and one in Broward and split their time between them. The meat at Mike's is smoked with a 500-gallon custom-built stick burner, and his customers love it, which is how the food truck has earned 95 percent 5-star reviews on Yelp. This also means locals in the Keys know to order ahead: Mike's is so popular it often sells out by 3 p.m. Porcari, who goes through about 1,000 pounds of meat a week, says he's passionate about Texas barbecue, so much so that despite the food truck's success, he'll still watch YouTube videos of new smoking methods and try them out. He's considering making a move to a brick and mortar space — 'it's getting close to that time' — but for now is grateful to be where he is. 'It's beautiful here,' he says. 'If I drop dead at the smoker, I've lived a happy life. I am a guy who's found my passion.' Other top trucks Also making the list at no. 35 was Acqua e Farina by Ciro Esposito, which specializes in Neapolitan Pizza. It also serves pasta dishes like homemade gnocchi, spaghetti, lasagna and eggplant. Acqua e Farina is no stranger to Yelp honors: In 2023, the modest pizza truck parked in a warehouse district in Kendall was named one of the top 10 pizza restaurants in the country. The third South Florida spot on the list was One Grind in Key Largo, which serves various coffees as well as breakfast items like bagels, avocado toast, crunch wraps and biscuit tacos. One grind was no. 41 on Yelp's list. Three other restaurants around the state made the top 100 list: Ragga Surf Cafe in St. Augustine (17); LaurieCue in Weeki Wachee (67); and Hot Asian Buns in Maitland (89). South Florida food trucks on the 2025 list Mike's BBQ 101: 101900 Overseas Hwy., Key Largo; @mikesbbq101 Acqua e Farina by Ciro Esposito: 12070 SW 131st Ave., Miami; @acquaefarinabyciroesposito One Grind: Mile Marker 98, Overseas Hwy., Key Largo; @

Ultra-exclusive Romeo Roma is visionary architect Zaha Hadid's last hotel project
Zaha Hadid's last hotel project is one for the ages. Romeo Roma, a spectacular new five-star property in Rome's historic center, is built inside a 16th-century landmarked palazzo. The innovative interiors span eras: Original Renaissance frescoes in five 'noble-level' suites are juxtaposed with the late British-Iraqi architect's futuristic forms while an ancient marble bust of empress Livia Drusilla unearthed during the renovation sits near contemporary works by Francesco Clemente, Mario Schifano and Christian Leperino. The glass-bottomed pool, meanwhile, reveals remarkable Roman relics discovered just below. With its striking mix of antiquities and avant-garde elegance, this is a new address for travelers seeking extraordinary accommodations. And it's ultra-exclusive – so much so that apart from Il Ristorante Alain Ducasse, which is open to the public, access inside is limited to hotel guests. 13 Romeo Roma is located in Rome's historic center, close to Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps. The ROMEO Collection 13 Five of the suites feature original Renaissance frescoes. CHRIS DALTON PHOTOGRAPHY The 74-room addition to The Romeo Collection, the luxury Italian hospitality brand founded by Neapolitan lawyer and entrepreneur Alfredo Romeo, opened in December. The first Romeo hotel debuted in Naples in 2008 and a Massa Lubrense location on the Sorrento Coast, across from the island of Capri, is slated for later this year. The Rome edifice unites the best of the design, culinary and wellness worlds. Just last month, it won a coveted spot on the Prix Versailles' 'World's Most Beautiful Hotels' in 2025 list for its 'exceptional architecture and design.' 13 The museum-like lobby is decorated with antiquities, contemporary art and a lipstick-red piano. GIULIA VENANZI 13 The swimming pool's glass bottom reveals ancient Roman ruins that were unearthed during the excavation. The ROMEO Collection Romeo bought the building on the tony Via di Ripetta, steps from Piazza del Popolo, in 2012. Originally the palace of the Serroberti-Capponi family, it changed hands several times before becoming headquarters of the Jesuit journal Civiltà Cattolica and then, from 1951 onwards, offices of the Italian government's Italian Workers' Compensation Authority. Romeo enlisted Zaha Hadid to radically transform the edifice. A rock star in her field, she was twice awarded Britain's Stirling Prize for architecture and in 2004 became the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize, known as the 'Nobel Prize of architecture.' She had already begun working on Romeo Roma when she died in 2016 of a heart attack, and her practice completed the project posthumously. 13 A glossy walnut-clad room has a Zaha Hadid fireplace, among other amenities. CHRIS DALTON PHOTOGRAPHY As many elements of the building are listed, Zaha Hadid Architects devised a 'second skin' that fits inside the original structure. Not only are the archistar's signature undulating walls and vaulted ceilings in Macassar ebony, marble, steel and textured brass seductively chic, but they conceal the systems and smart technology. The project lasted more than a decade, slowed by the discovery – and careful preservation – of a Roman wall and workshop beneath the courtyard. Working with the finest materials, from Macassar ebony and Canaletto walnut to Italian marble, artisans crafted the intricate cladding and flooring that accents every space. The polished rooms and suites are appointed with furnishings by B&B Italia, Poltrona Frau and custom pieces from Romeo Design. They are simultaneously warm and state-of-the-art. 13 Il Ristorante Alain Ducasse is the Michelin-starred chef's first restaurant in Rome. CHRIS DALTON PHOTOGRAPHY 13 La Terrazza, the chic rooftop bar operated in partnership with Krug champagne, boasts panoramic views of the city. GIULIA VENANZI The gastronomic program is equally cutting-edge. Michelin-starred French chef Alain Ducasse, whose first restaurant in Italy opened last year at Romeo Napoli, unveiled his second signature outpost in the country on-site. Guests choose between à la carte specialties or four-, six- or nine-course tasting menus made with seasonal Italian ingredients. Standouts include Mediterranean blue lobster with red berries and rhubarb and chocolate and coffee from Alain Ducasse Manufacture in Paris paired with buckwheat ice cream. The restaurant also serves a sumptuous à la carte breakfast with sweet, savory and pastry options. The cloud-like French toast with whipped cream is not to be missed. 13 Il Cortile restaurant offers all-day al fresco dining in the leafy courtyard. CHRIS DALTON PHOTOGRAPHY 13 Il Bar has a novel ceiling design that allows light to pass through. CHRIS DALTON PHOTOGRAPHY Il Cortile, meanwhile, offers all-day classic Italian fare in the leafy courtyard. Il Bar serves craft cocktails made with local ingredients and wine while La Terrazza, a skybar with panoramic views of the Eternal City, is a partnership with French Champagne house Krug. 13 The wellness center includes La Spa Sisley Paris, a salt room, hammam, floating room, pool and more. Book one of the famed French beauty company's Phyto-Aromatic facial and body treatments, then laze in the salt room, hammam, floating room and emotional shower enhanced with colored lights and aromatherapy.
