Celeste and her dog Shadow found safe
There is relief across Pretoria and beyond today as Celeste van Aswegen and her dog Shadow have been found safe, bringing an end to a tense five-day search.
It is believed that she was found on Wednesday evening at a lodge in KwaZulu-Natal.
Celeste was reported missing on Saturday, June 21, 2025, after she was last seen near Menlyn Shopping Centre on Atterbury Road, driving a grey Volkswagen Amarok. She and Shadow had not been seen or heard from since, sparking widespread concern and a coordinated search effort involving family, friends, the public, and private investigator Mike Bolhuis.
Family members confirmed that both Celeste and Shadow have been located and are safe.
Details surrounding their whereabouts during the missing period have not yet been made public.

It's also important to note the exact time and place they were last seen, as well as whether a missing person case number has been opened. Indicate if their cellphone is on or off, and whether there is any tracking device in their vehicle. If the missing person has a known medical condition, this must be clearly stated.
Finally, provide a short summary of the circumstances surrounding their disappearance—for example, their destination, who they were with, or any unusual behaviour prior to going missing.
Sharing complete and accurate information from the start can make a vital difference in locating a missing person quickly and safely.

Police nab 343 suspects in Tshwane
Police were out in full force in Tshwane this weekend targeting the rural precincts of Cullinan and Boschkop. Captain Johan Van Dyk said the police in Tshwane were continuing to tackle the disruptive crime operations with Operation Shanela. 'This planned intervention is aimed at continued actions by addressing crime in Tshwane,' said Van Dyk. He added that the crime interventions resulted in the arrest of 343 suspects for various criminal offences. He continued, 'These results are a direct outcome of planning, strategic deployments and heightened visibility aimed at reducing crime and continued tracking and tracing of wanted suspects.' He said through the strategic deployments, detectives were responsible for 274 arrests, including 82 suspects for gender-based violence-related offences, one for murder, six for attempted murder, eight for armed robbery, 26 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and 10 for rape. He said a roadblock with two operational teams was deployed in the Cullinan and Boschkop areas, resulting in 906 individuals and 450 vehicles being searched. He said 13 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 22 undocumented foreign nationals were detained. According to Van Dyk, 'The undocumented foreign nationals are currently being processed by immigration authorities.' 'Targeted patrols were conducted at 18 identified crime hotspots, leading to further arrests and the issuing of fines, including 20 persons for public drinking with eight persons for being intoxicated in public.' He said traffic enforcement units issued 16 AARTO infringement notices, totalling R7 250 in fines. 'Liquor compliance inspections were carried out at 15 establishments, resulting in four being closed for non-compliance. A total of 724,145 ml of alcohol and two music sound systems were confiscated.' Van Dyk said the operation was executed by the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, the Department of Home Affairs, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, and representatives of the local Community Policing Forum. Elderly man hacked in face during brutal Kameeldrift smallholding attack
An elderly man was hacked in the face with a panga during a brutal smallholding attack in Kameeldrift East in the early hours of Saturday morning. At around 2am, a group of between three and six armed suspects stormed a smallholding on Plot 401, Karee Street in Pumulani, where an elderly couple resides. The attackers broke into the main house and began looting, assaulting the elderly man with a panga before fleeing with multiple stolen goods, including television sets. The victim was rushed to hospital with serious facial injuries. SAPS and forensic teams remain on the scene. The suspects then targeted a second house on the property, where a woman was asleep alone. She was held at gunpoint, a shot was fired inside the home (believed to be a warning), and her walking aid was taken to prevent her from escaping. She is receiving trauma counselling. A gold Toyota Urban Cruiser was stolen, and a spent cartridge and matching bullet casing were recovered in the room. National police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the police are investigating a case of attempted murder and house robbery after a family was attacked by unknown suspects in their home in Karee Weg, Kameeldrift, this morning. 'According to information received, a husband and wife were sleeping when they were woken by a bang on the door. About five unknown men entered the house and the husband was struck with a sharp object on the face.' She furthermore added that the suspects fled the scene with the victim's Toyota Cruiser and some household items. Police request anyone who may have information that can assist in arresting the suspects to contact their nearest police station or the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111. Police investigations continue. This is the third violent attack on rural residents in the Pretoria region in just over a week. June 20 – Mooiplaats Farm Attack Five suspects armed with pangas attacked a family on their property in Mooiplaats, Pretoria East. The residents sustained moderate injuries and were robbed of electronics and cell phones. It is believed one of the victim's Achilles tendons was severed with pangas. Echo-1 security teams responded rapidly. In a dramatic shootout near a nearby informal settlement, two suspects were shot — one killed, the other critically injured. Stolen property was recovered. June 25 – Kameeldrift Murder Tragically, Carolina Frederika Dicks was found murdered in her home on Ringduif Street, Kameeldrift. Her vehicle and several belongings were missing. The case is under investigation. Community leaders have urged residents to stay vigilant and connected, especially at night. Metro police praised for restoring order in by-law raids
Tshwane police have received praise from the multiparty coalition government for carrying out by-law operations throughout the city. On behalf of the government, MMC for Community Safety Hannes Coetzee, commended the Tshwane Metro Police Department for executing decisive, lawful action across the city as part of a targeted by-law enforcement campaign. The operations took place on June 24 in different parts of Tshwane, including regions 1, 4 and 6. Coetzee said the executed operations are not isolated, as they form part of the metro's strategy to restore order in the city. 'They form part of a broader strategy to restore order, enforce accountability and reclaim public spaces for the people of Tshwane.' He said in Region 4, multiple businesses received fines for failing to adhere to the by-laws. 'In Centurion, the TMPD issued 14 Section 56 notices to businesses found violating municipal by-laws. 'Lawlessness under the guise of commerce will not be tolerated,' he said. 'In Mabopane, 11 illegal structures were demolished. In Winternest, 79 unlawful structures were dismantled in a co-ordinated effort involving the crime prevention and land invasion units.' He said illegal advertisements were removed, goods were seized, and offenders were served with enforcement notices. Coetzee said the operations were not just enforcement, but a reaffirmation of the rule of law in Tshwane. 'We are rebuilding a city founded on respect, order and justice. The days of impunity are over. 'Let this stand as a warning to those who defy the law and a promise to residents who demand a city that works.
