Brazilian Rafinha wins La Liga player of year award
La Liga announced on Friday that Brazilian Rafinha, a Barcelona player, won the La Liga Player of the Year Award for the 2024-25 season, after leading the Blaugrana to their 28th league title.
Rafinha beat out teammates Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Robert Lewandowski in the final vote, as well as Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Isco (Real Betis), and Oyhan Sancet (Athletic Bilbao).
The Catalan club had a fantastic season, and Rafinha played a key role in German coach Hansi Flick's team's success in reclaiming the league title from arch-rivals Real Madrid. He contributed 27 goals, scoring 18 and providing nine assists.
The 28-year-old, who joined Barcelona in the 2022 season from Leeds United, finished sixth in the competition's top scorer list, which was edged out by Frenchman Kylian Mbappé with 31 goals.
Barcelona, who won the domestic treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup, dominated the league's awards, with Hansi Flick winning the Best Coach award and Lamine Yamal winning the Best Young Player award earlier this month.

Manchester City re-Signs former goalkeeper James Trafford
London – Saba: English Premier League club Manchester City announced on Tuesday the signing of their former goalkeeper James Trafford on a five-year contract, marking their sixth signing of the summer transfer window. In a statement published on the club's official website, the Citizens said: "Manchester City is pleased to confirm the signing of James Trafford from Burnley." The statement added:"The 22-year-old English goalkeeper has completed his move to the Etihad Stadium, signing a five-year contract that runs until June 2030." Trafford, a former England U-21 international, spent nearly eight years in Manchester City's youth academy before joining Burnley's Turf Moor in 2023. Over the past two seasons in East Lancashire, Trafford established himself as one of the most sought-after young goalkeepers in Europe. He played a key role in Scott Parker's side returning to the Premier League this season, keeping 29 clean sheets in 45 matches and earning a spot in the Championship Team of the Year. Trafford becomes City's sixth summer signing, following Dutchman Tijjani Reijnders, Frenchman Rayan Cherki, Norwegian youngster Sverre Nypan, Algerian Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Marcus Bettinelli.
