Bank Al-Maghrib Posts 27% Rise in 2024 Profit, Reaching MAD 6.46 Billion
According to the bank's annual report, the profit rose from MAD 5.1 billion in 2023 to MAD 6.46 billion in 2024. This growth came despite higher operating costs and was driven by solid performance in several key areas, says the central bank.
One of the main contributors to this result was the management of Morocco's foreign exchange reserves, the report argued. Income from this activity reached MAD 8.74 billion, up by 17%. The increase was mainly driven by better returns on foreign currency assets, especially bonds.
The central bank also saw a 27% jump in profits from its monetary policy operations, which totalled MAD 3.95 billion. This was linked to higher levels of monetary interventions as Moroccan banks faced more liquidity shortages, even though the bank had lowered its key interest rate to 2.5% in 2024.
Meanwhile, other operational activities remained stable, bringing in MAD 1.27 billion. Although income from commissions on foreign exchange and Treasury bills dropped, this was balanced by higher sales of secure documents, such as official papers and identification materials.
On the cost side, general operating expenses rose by 22% to MAD 2.54 billion. This increase was due to rising day-to-day running costs and higher depreciation provisions.
Despite the increase in expenses, Bank Al-Maghrib's gross operating profit rose by 17% to MAD 11.42 billion, showing improved efficiency and overall profitability in its core activities.
The bank also reported a smaller non-recurring loss. It dropped from MAD 997 million in 2023 to MAD 447 million in 2024, largely due to the settlement of the social solidarity contribution owed from the previous year. Tags: BAMBank Al-Maghribprofit

Hilale mentioned King Mohammed VI's vision regarding aid and cooperation with landlocked developing countries. He cited two major initiatives: the Atlantic Initiative aimed at guaranteeing Sahel countries free access to the Atlantic Ocean, and the initiative to open up Sahel countries, which he described as an essential and strategic action of South-South solidarity. Morocco is placing landlocked African countries at the core of its cooperation strategy Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh, leading Morocco's delegation, affirmed that Rabat has made cooperation with landlocked countries, particularly in Africa, a strategic priority of its cooperation policy. 'In a spirit of solidarity and shared development, Morocco continues, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to provide concrete support to landlocked African countries through strengthening South-South and triangular development projects,' Kayouh stated during the plenary session. Like Hilale, Kayouh explained that this commitment has materialized through several initiatives, notably the Royal Initiative aimed at providing Sahel countries access to the Atlantic Ocean. This initiative seeks to lay the foundations for a new framework of cooperation and common development by sharing Moroccan experience and making road, rail, and port infrastructure available to these countries. According to Kayouh, landlocked countries face major structural challenges such as isolation from international markets, high transit costs, and increasing exposure to global fluctuations, which accentuates their fragility and vulnerability to external shocks. He called on the international community to inject a new dynamic of cooperation for these countries through adapted support and innovative partnerships capable of provoking deep structural transformations. These partnerships must focus on meeting the essential needs of these countries, particularly their effective integration into global markets, development of transport and connectivity infrastructure, and promotion of high-value-added sectors. Morocco will participate in three parallel sessions of the conference to showcase the royal strategy for supporting these countries, the country's policy within the general framework of the 2030 Agenda, and solidarity actions carried out by Morocco, particularly in Africa. The conference aims to rethink the development path in landlocked countries and serves as a meeting platform for high-level delegations, international officials, investors, and organizations. They will discuss strategies for integrating issues specific to these countries into global policies, investment plans, and developing ideas related to the Sustainable Development Agenda. The first UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries was held in August 2003 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, while the second took place in November 2014 in Vienna, Austria. The current Awaza Action Plan for 2024-2034 reflects a collective commitment to consolidating international cooperation for inland low-income countries. Morocco Launches Housing Campaign for Moroccans Residing Abroad
Rabat — Morocco's Ministry of National Territory Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy has launched a special campaign for Moroccans living abroad as part of the 'Marhaba 2025' operation. To implement the initiative, the ministry specified that it launched a mobile outreach caravan on August 2 in Tangier. Held under the theme 'Urban Planning and Housing at the Service of Moroccans Worldwide,' the caravan is scheduled to land in 10 cities across Morocco's regions until August 31. Royal directives drive initiative The ministry noted that rolling out this national campaign program for 2025 is in line with King Mohammed VI's directives and his special care for Moroccan diaspora members. The campaign follows circular number 7049 that Minister Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri sent to Al Omran Group, urban agencies, and regional and provincial directorates under the ministry.
