Kyle Stowers' blast leads Marlins to unprecedented Yankees sweep
August 3 - All-Star outfielder Kyle Stowers launched a three-run homer as the host Miami Marlins claimed a 7-3 win on Sunday afternoon to sweep the New York Yankees for the first time. Stowers, whose fourth-inning blast pushed the Marlins' lead to 6-1, finished with two homers and eight RBIs in the three-game series. Miami won 13-12 on Friday and 2-0 on Saturday. Edward Cabrera (5-5) pitched six strong innings on Sunday as the Marlins (55-55) climbed to the .500 mark for the first time since being 8-8 on April 15. Cabrera allowed just two hits, one walk and one run while striking out seven. The Marlins are 30-14 since June 13. They have lost just one of their past 12 series, going 10-1-1. New York, which had won three straight games before coming to Miami, was led by former Marlins star Jazz Chisholm Jr., who slugged a two-run homer. The Yankees also got a homer from Trent Grisham, who hit a leadoff shot on the fifth pitch of the game. However, Luis Gil (0-1) couldn't hold the lead as he made his 2025 debut following an injury in March. Gil lasted 3 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, four walks and five runs. Gil walked two consecutive batters in the second inning before rookie Troy Johnston picked up his first major league RBI with a double. Xavier Edwards added an RBI single and Stowers completed the three-run rally with a sacrifice fly. In the fourth, Gil walked Graham Pauley and gave up a single to Edwards to encourage Yankees manager Aaron Boone to bring in reliever Brent Headrick. Three pitches later, it was 6-1 on Stowers' 25th homer of the season. In the seventh, Marlins manager Clayton McCullough brought in lefty reliever Josh Simpson. Giancarlo Stanton dribbled an infield single before lefty-swinging Chisholm slugged his two-run homer to cut New York's deficit to 6-3. Miami escaped further trouble in the seventh after Anthony Volpe's two-out triple as Simpson got Austin Wells on a flyout. In the bottom of the seventh, Otto Lopez walked and scored on rookie Jakob Marsee's 397-foot triple off the glove of Grisham, who had raced back to the warning track in straightaway center. The Marlins struck out 14 Yankees batters, including Lake Bachar's whiff of Volope for the final out of the game. --Field Level Media

Brice Turang goes deep twice as Brewers clobber Nationals
August 3 - Brice Turang homered twice and drove in four runs, and the Milwaukee Brewers routed the Washington Nationals 14-3 to complete a sweep of the three-game series. The Brewers, who boast the best record (67-44) in baseball, scored 38 runs and collected 56 hits in the series. Joey Ortiz had two hits and drove in four runs, and Brandon Lockridge had two hits and three RBIs for Milwaukee, which finished 6-0 against Washington this season. Milwaukee's scheduled starter, rookie Jacob Misiorowski, was placed on the injured list Sunday morning with a left tibia contusion. Logan Henderson was recalled from Triple-A Nashville and pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing a run on three hits and two walks while striking out four. Aaron Ashby (2-1) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out three for the win. Drew Millas had two doubles for Washington. Brad Lord (2-6) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two. As in the first two games, Milwaukee scored in the first inning when consecutive singles by William Contreras, Andrew Vaughn and Christian Yelich made it 1-0. With two outs in the second and a runner on first, Turang homered to right center to make it 3-0. The Nationals broke through in the fifth when Millas doubled and Jacob Young singled off Henderson to cut the Nationals' lead to 3-1. Ashby came on and struck out CJ Abrams and James Wood to end the threat. Blake Perkins walked and pinch hitter Caleb Durbin singled leading off the sixth. Perkins scored on a sacrifice fly by Lockridge and then Durbin stole third and scored on Millas's throwing error on the play to make it 5-1. The Brewers broke it open against Zach Brzykcy in the seventh. With one out, Yelich walked, Isaac Collins singled and Perkins walked to load the bases. Durbin was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run, and Lockridge singled, scoring two runs to make it 8-1. After a wild pitch, Ortiz singled home two more runs. Ryan Loutus came on to face Turang, who homered to right to make it 12-1. Ortiz doubled home two runs in the eighth. Millas smacked a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth. --Field Level Media

Jack Osbourne admits he and rarely-seen older sister Aimee 'are not close at all' before reuniting at dad Ozzy's emotional funeral
Jack Osbourne revealed that he and his sister Aimee were 'not close at all' in a podcast chat recorded weeks before they reunited for their father Ozzy's funeral. The Osbournes launched in 2002 and ran for four series' on MTV, following the lives of the late Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon and two of their children - Jack and Kelly. However, Aimee, who is Jack and Kelly's eldest sister, chose not to star in the reality show as she tried to carve out her own career in the music industry. Jack, 39, said on the Disrespectfully podcast: 'Back then she really wanted to be a musician and the kind of musician she wanted to be was like a Fiona Apple, Mazzy Star, like this kind of obscure, mysterious, moody… 'And she deemed doing a show on MTV as low-hanging fruit. She was like, "I'm not going to be seen riding coat-tails," kind of thing, that's how she perceived it. 'Once the show was hugely successful I think she was kind of like, "Well I can't now come on because I don't want to be seen even more so as jumping on the bandwagon". And she dug her heels in and wanted to be relatively private and obscure.' While Aimee has remained away from the limelight compared to her siblings, the 41-year-old has previously released music under the name ARO, which is her initials. Jack revealed on the podcast they weren't on close terms when he was quizzed on whether Aimee regretted not taking part in the family's reality series. He admitted: 'I've never had the conversation with her, we're not close at all. We don't have a great relationship, she'll be the first to tell you that, so it's no secret. 'I've never asked her outright, "Do you regret it'" I think there must be a level of like, "Hey, my life would have probably been different than what it is if I'd done that", so I don't know, I think I would feel like I would have regretted it.' Aimee courageously put herself in the spotlight for her beloved father at his funeral procession last month. The Black Sabbath rocker died aged 76 on July 22 and his funeral cortege travelled through his hometown of Birmingham, passing thousands of fans who lined the streets. Her brave decision to step into the limelight and pay respects with the world also forced her to put differences aside with her estranged sister Kelly. Kelly and Aimee have had a fraught relationship for years, but were pictured with their devastated mother and brother for the rock legend's send off. In recent years the vastly-different siblings had admitted they weren't on speaking terms, with Kelly saying in an interview they just 'didn't understand each other.' Kelly, who appeared on the Dax Shepard podcast Armchair Expert, revealed in 2021 that she and her older sister had been estranged for a long time. 'We don't talk,' Kelly said. 'We're just really different. She doesn't understand me and I don't understand her.' Meanwhile, back in 2015 Aimee shared with The Independent that her and Kelly were not on close terms. 'I wouldn't say there is an ease between us, but there is an acceptance,' she said. 'Do we socialize? No.' Sharon previously admitted she was devastated when Aimee moved out, saying on The Talk in 2018: 'She felt too that she didn't want to grow up on camera. She hated the idea - it was appalling to her. 'And so she left at 16 and I regret every day that she did. It broke my heart when she moved.' Ozzy shared daughters Kelly and Aimee, as well as son Jack, with his wife of 43 years Sharon, and also had three children, Louis, Jessica and Eliot, from his first marriage to wife Thelma Riley.
