TruEdge releases statement about former Steelers WR George Pickens bailing on youth football camp
Statement from TruEdge Sports addressing the very overblown narrative surrounding #Cowboys WR George Pickens that claims he backed out of his Pittsburgh football camp at the last minute. The company says their initial statement was inappropriate. pic.twitter.com/bIo3T6eoWa
Earlier in the week, news came out that former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens bailed on his youth football camp in Pittsburgh just three days before the camp. Thankfully, Steelers wide receiver Pat Feiermuth stepped in at the last minute and save the day for all the camper. TruEdge, the company who puts on these camps all over the country released a statement about Pickens skipping out on the camp.
But on Friday, TruEdge walked their statement back and did a bit of damage control with a new statement that absolves Pickens of any real responsibility for missing the camp. Instead, they made it out to be a miscommunication and laid the blame back on themselves for how they characterized Pickens in their original release.
With TruEdge working with NFL players all over the country, I'm sure it was more important to keep Pickens happy in case he wants to show up at a camp in Dallas now that he's a Cowboy. Given Pickens reputation, his absence likely had more to do with his lack of interest in returning to Pittsburgh than anything else.

AFC Team Reportedly 'Eyeing' Micah Parsons Trade With Cowboys
AFC Team Reportedly 'Eyeing' Micah Parsons Trade With Cowboys originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - The wild and wacky guesses continue to roll in on the future of Micah Parsons, and they all mangle the facts. Advertisement In recent days ... *A report suggests that the Dallas Cowboys and defensive star Parsons are "making progress," but can tell you that none of those involved can really confirm that there is much movement there. *NFL Network comes along suggesting a major change in what Parsons and owner Jerry Jones are planning on doing together. According to NFL Network, Parsons could seek a shorter extension than the Cowboys traditionally prefer so he can return to the market at age 29 or 30, and that the Cowboys might need to 'shave a year or even two off' of their offer to seal the deal. We're not sure why the Cowboys want to do that given that Parsons wants to lock in long-term. And, now we have a source explaining. Advertisement The Cowboys do not particularly want to do that. Nor does Parsons. The report, a source close to the negotiations tells is "simply not true.'' *And now? NESN in Boston is telling us that the New England Patriots are "eyeing'' the Parsons situation, presumably with some sort of a top-secret plan to trade for him. They write that the Patriots are "watching the market'' on Parsons, which, by the way, as we have been reporting for months is all about Parsons being interested in signing a lengthy five-year deal at around $40 million per season with the $200 million total helping to make him the highest-paid non-QB ever. Advertisement NESN plows on by quoting Pats coach Mike Vrabel's very generic comment about roster-building and pretending it has something to do with Parsons. 'Trying to always continually make the roster more competitive … that has to happen,' Vrabel said recently. Yes. Very generic. Nothing having to do with Parsons and the Cowboys. NESN concludes, however that Vrabel's "search may soon include some of the biggest names still waiting to get paid'' - like Parsons. The facts: As we write this, there is no movement. There is no change. Parsons wants to be a "Cowboy for Life.'' Nothing has changed. Cowboys Have Rivals On Notice For One Clear Reason
Cowboys Have Rivals On Notice For One Clear Reason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO — Dallas Cowboys fans have begged and pleaded in recent years for their team to make the gamble and go after a big name by trade or through free agency. A year ago, they infamously allowed Derrick Henry to sign with the Baltimore Ravens despite a perfectly clear avenue to pursue him. Advertisement This offseason, they made the necessary moves through free agency and the draft. However, they had not pursued any needle-moving players through those major acquisition periods. That all changed in May when the Cowboys traded for George Pickens, providing a major upgrade at the wide receiver position. This gives Dallas one of the most formidable duos on paper heading into next season. But the Cowboys are not the only ones aware of the enormity of this deal. Their aggressive maneuvering has their most staunch adversaries on notice. 'The spotlight is on him because I've talked with a lot of people around the league, including the NFC East. That Pickens trade has their full attention,' ESPN's Fowler said Saturday. Advertisement 'They believe that really does add a new dimension because he's one of the best contested ball-catchers in the entire league. If he can stay on the upright, keep that maturity sort of in check in a contract year, he'll do big things with CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott.' The duality of Pickens' and Lamb's talents should blend together with brilliance. Lamb's precision as a route runner out of the slot combining with Pickens' downfield presence makes for a tantalizing air-raid punch. But if foes around the NFC East are taking notice, it's because they have done the same things to establish themselves as contenders. The Washington Commanders made trades for Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel at the star of the offseason while the Philadelphia Eagles have stretched their big moves over the last several years. A trade for A.J. Brown a few years back and the signing of Saquon Barkley a year ago made them undeniable in their quest for a title. Advertisement Time will tell if a similar fate awaits the Cowboys. Regardless, the trade for Pickens is reflective of that contending mindset and one that could pay off in a major way. Sports camp company walks back harsh criticism of George Pickens
George Pickens might not have bailed on his youth football camp at the last minute after all. On Friday, TruEdge Sports released a statement via NFL insider Jordan Schultz, walking back their accusation that the Cowboys' wide receiver had pulled out of hosting his youth camp with the company at the last minute. TruEdge said their email to families "mischaracterized (Pickens') intent and actions" and that they never communicated directly with the former Steelers wideout. Advertisement Instead, the sports camp company is chalking the whole situation up to a miscommunication with Pickens' representatives, which "led to confusion about the camp's status and future direction." "While our frustrations stemmed from the uncertainty surrounding the event, it was never our intention to publicly question George's professionalism, integrity, or commitment to the community," TruEdge's statement read. "We now understand that the tone and implications of our message were not only inappropriate but inconsistent with our values as an organization. "We recognize that he was navigating a significant career transition during this time and that his team kept open lines of communication with us." Advertisement In their initial email to families who had registered for the George Pickens Youth Football Camp in Pittsburgh, TruEdge Sports wrote that Pickens "decided to walk back on his word and is no longer interested in attending the camp." They went on to say that his decision to back out "not only reflects a disappointing lack of accountability, but also shows a disregard for the families and children who were excited to meet him." In his social media posts releasing the statement, Schultz called the situation a "very overblown narrative." The camp has since been rescheduled to a new date in late July with Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth stepping in as its new host. TruEdge also promised in their initial email that they were in talks with several other Steelers players to make appearances at the camp.
