Earlier in the week, news came out that former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens bailed on his youth football camp in Pittsburgh just three days before the camp. Thankfully, Steelers wide receiver Pat Feiermuth stepped in at the last minute and save the day for all the camper. TruEdge, the company who puts on these camps all over the country released a statement about Pickens skipping out on the camp.
But on Friday, TruEdge walked their statement back and did a bit of damage control with a new statement that absolves Pickens of any real responsibility for missing the camp. Instead, they made it out to be a miscommunication and laid the blame back on themselves for how they characterized Pickens in their original release.
With TruEdge working with NFL players all over the country, I'm sure it was more important to keep Pickens happy in case he wants to show up at a camp in Dallas now that he's a Cowboy. Given Pickens reputation, his absence likely had more to do with his lack of interest in returning to Pittsburgh than anything else.

NESN in Boston is telling us that the New England Patriots are "eyeing'' the Parsons situation, presumably with some sort of a top-secret plan to trade for him. They write that the Patriots are "watching the market'' on Parsons, which, by the way, as we have been reporting for months is all about Parsons being interested in signing a lengthy five-year deal at around $40 million per season with the $200 million total helping to make him the highest-paid non-QB ever. Advertisement NESN plows on by quoting Pats coach Mike Vrabel's very generic comment about roster-building and pretending it has something to do with Parsons. 'Trying to always continually make the roster more competitive … that has to happen,' Vrabel said recently. Yes. Very generic. Nothing having to do with Parsons and the Cowboys. NESN concludes, however that Vrabel's "search may soon include some of the biggest names still waiting to get paid'' - like Parsons. The facts: As we write this, there is no movement. There is no change. Parsons wants to be a "Cowboy for Life.'' Nothing has changed. Sports camp company walks back harsh criticism of George Pickens
George Pickens might not have bailed on his youth football camp at the last minute after all. On Friday, TruEdge Sports released a statement via NFL insider Jordan Schultz, walking back their accusation that the Cowboys' wide receiver had pulled out of hosting his youth camp with the company at the last minute. TruEdge said their email to families "mischaracterized (Pickens') intent and actions" and that they never communicated directly with the former Steelers wideout. Advertisement Instead, the sports camp company is chalking the whole situation up to a miscommunication with Pickens' representatives, which "led to confusion about the camp's status and future direction." "While our frustrations stemmed from the uncertainty surrounding the event, it was never our intention to publicly question George's professionalism, integrity, or commitment to the community," TruEdge's statement read. "We now understand that the tone and implications of our message were not only inappropriate but inconsistent with our values as an organization. "We recognize that he was navigating a significant career transition during this time and that his team kept open lines of communication with us." Advertisement In their initial email to families who had registered for the George Pickens Youth Football Camp in Pittsburgh, TruEdge Sports wrote that Pickens "decided to walk back on his word and is no longer interested in attending the camp." They went on to say that his decision to back out "not only reflects a disappointing lack of accountability, but also shows a disregard for the families and children who were excited to meet him." In his social media posts releasing the statement, Schultz called the situation a "very overblown narrative." The camp has since been rescheduled to a new date in late July with Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth stepping in as its new host. TruEdge also promised in their initial email that they were in talks with several other Steelers players to make appearances at the camp.
