#SHOWBIZ: Veteran actress Hamidah Wahab vows legal action over 'scammer' claim

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actress Hamidah Wahab has pledged to take legal action against a man who publicly accused her of being a scammer and allegedly defrauding him of RM100,000.The 67-year-old actress, who has maintained an unblemished reputation since starting her career in the 1970s, expressed profound disappointment over the serious accusation, saying it has tarnished her name overnight.
"I feel deeply hurt. Never in my life has my name been dragged through the mud like this. "Being accused of being a scammer is not something to take lightly," she was quoted as saying in Harian Metro today.
"This is a case of defamation, and I will not remain silent. If this individual doesn't come forward to apologise and publicly clear my name, I will proceed with a defamation lawsuit. "He must admit that his claims are false and slanderous. I also expect him to meet me and my family in person to explain his actions."
Hamidah confirmed that she has already lodged two police reports and has preserved evidence of the accusations made against her."If it's true I cheated him out of RM100,000, then show proof such as bank statements or any concrete evidence. But there is none."
She questioned the motive behind the false claims, suggesting the accuser may be driven by envy or malicious intent."He claimed to have support from a 'Datin' and even the police. But I have faith in our legal system. If he's guilty, justice will be served."
Hamidah also revealed the emotional toll the incident has taken on her and her family."People have been calling me, asking if the allegations are true. Some even believed them. I've worked hard to maintain my integrity all my life, only for it to be tainted by lies."
The issue escalated after a viral video circulated on social media, accusing Hamidah, her younger sister Juriah Abd Hamid, her son Muhammad Afique Ab Mahat, and two nieces — Dr Diyana Mahat and Mardiah Ab Mahat — of scamming individuals out of large sums of money.Hamidah insisted she would not rest until her name is cleared and justice is served.

[UPDATED] Six-year-old boy reported missing in Johor found buried in Negri Sembilan

SEREMBAN: The search for a six-year-old boy reported missing in Johor last week took a tragic turn when his body was discovered buried in Rompin in Jempol today. Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the body of the boy was found at 4.30pm following the arrest of a 36-year-old man. "Preliminary investigations showed that the victim was murdered and buried in the Rompin area. "The suspect led police to the location after being taken into custody," he said in a statement today. The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for up to 40 years, and whipping. The New Straits Times has learnt that the man in police custody is related to the boy. However, police have remained tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation. The suspect is believed to have known the victim, but police have yet to confirm the exact motive behind the killing. Police are expected to seek an extension of the suspect's remand as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the boy's death. The discovery has shocked communities in both Johor and Negri Sembilan, with police urging anyone with further information to contact Inspector E. Komaty at 010-3812804 or the Iskandar Puteri district police control centre. On July 26, police confirmed that they had received a report of a missing boy in the Taman Bukit Indah area. Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan was quoted as saying that the missing person report for the boy, identified as Tishant Munisamy, had been lodged by his father.

#SHOWBIZ: Leez's 1989 hit 'EL' trends on TikTok, singer hesitant on comeback

KUALA LUMPUR: Former singer Noor Liza Abu Bakar, better known as Leez, 55, was surprised to discover her 1989 hit 'EL' has recently gone viral on TikTok's For You Page. Harian Metro reported today that the 55-year-old said she had recently been inundated with WhatsApp messages and social media friend requests, despite having left the limelight many years ago. Leez went on to release a second album, 'Jendela', in 1990 (produced by Usop of Kopratasa and Eric Yeoh) and recorded a third for BMG that was never issued. After marrying composer-producer Razman, she stepped away from music to raise two daughters, now 29 and 25. She currently runs a catering and nasi lemak business. Though invited twice to join the TV comeback show 'Gegar Vaganza', she declined. "I'm afraid that the glamour would give me a headache as my 15 minutes of fame have passed," she said. However, she doesn't rule out a future single, saying, "We may plan, but God decides." Meanwhile, netizens have been debating the identity of the singer of "EL", with some mistaking her for Leez Rosli (an Akademi Fantasia 4 alumna), while others even believed the singer had already passed away.

The operation uncovered 3,837 units of various communication devices, such as wireless gaming consoles, remote controls, smart devices and tablets, estimated to be worth RM500,000, which were seized by the police and handed over to MCMC for technical analysis and further review. "These devices are believed to have been marketed without valid technical certification from MCMC," the commission said. The case is being investigated under Regulation 16 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, which carries a maximum fine of RM300,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, upon conviction. MCMC stressed its commitment to enforcing regulations to safeguard consumers and uphold market integrity.
