Saran, Jul 10 (PTI) Two men, posing as poll officers involved in the ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, visited the house of an elderly couple in Saran district and allegedly decamped with a gold chain, police said on Thursday.
'He then accompanied his wife to the front room and found that the gold chain, kept under a mattress nearby, was missing. The two persons had also fled,' he said.
After the incident was reported to the police, a team visited the victim's house, the SHO said.
'We have asked the family to file a formal complaint so that an investigation can be initiated. We are also examining CCTV footage of the area to identify the accused,' he said. PTI NAC PKD SOM

Man held with over 5,000 bottles of fake cough syrup
In a crackdown on illegal drug trade, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has arrested a man and seized over 5,300 bottles of fake cough syrup from a house in Lucknow, officials said on Friday. The syrup was found to be mixed with banned sedatives and falsely labelled to look like a genuine prod-uct from reputed pharmaceutical companies, a senior official said. 'On the basis of specific intelligence, officers raided a house on Thursday and recovered 5,353 bottles of cough syrup,' Deputy Narcotics Commissioner Praveen Bali told PTI. 'In a unique modus operandi, the syrup was found laced with NRx medicine such as Alprazolam and Clonazepam and labelled as Codeine Syrup by putting false labels of reputed companies,' Bali said. 'The accused did not possess any legal documents or license to store or sell such medicines. The entire stock was seized under the NDPS Act, 1985, and one person has been arrested,' Bali said.

He didn't respond so he was asked again on July 1 to do so, but to no avail, forcing the department to take action, officials said. According to officials, the suspension has been enforced under gross violation of the Punjab Public Distribution System (Licensing/Control) Order, 2016 and its 2023 amendment for concerns over manipulation and misuse of beneficiary data. When contacted, Sartaj Singh Cheema, district controller, food civil supplies and consumer affairs, Ludhiana West, said, 'We have suspended the ration supply to the depot holder after he was found guilty of manipulating beneficiary records. The action was taken in the exercise of powers under the PDS order. The case has also been forwarded to the legal officer for further action.'
