SP emphasises use of technology for crime control
Puttaparthi: District Superintendent of Police V Ratna directed the officials to enhance crime prevention in Sri Sathya Sai district using advanced technology and strict night patrolling, with a focus on curbing crimes against women. During a crime review meeting at the police conference hall here on Saturday, she interacted with DSPs, CIs and SIs from Puttaparthi, Kadiri, Hindupur, and Penukonda to address pending cases and expedite resolutions.
SP Ratna reviewed case backlogs, urging officers to reduce delays, particularly in priority cases, and inquired about arrests. She examined grave and non-grave crimes, SC/ST cases, POCSO cases, political cases, and Lok Adalat matters.
To curb crime, she ordered field visits, night halts, open drinking patrols, and rural inspections, alongside fingerprint collection from suspicious individuals for cross-verification.
She emphasised identifying troublemakers and rowdy-sheeters, installing CCTV cameras in key areas, recovering stolen property, and reducing thefts. She stressed swift reporting in POCSO cases, early resolution of Lok Adalat cases, and ensuring compensation for SC/ST victims. She also prioritized reducing road accidents and missing persons cases.
Concluding, SP Ratna urged officers to maintain law and order and enhance the police department's reputation. She presented commendation certificates to high-performing officers.
The meeting included DSPs Vijay Kumar, Shivanna Rayana, KV Mahesh, Narasingappa, and other staff.

Nagpur: A 16-year-old girl, who vanished from her home in September 2023, was found after 642 days by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Nagpur police. In a dramatic turn, the girl was found in Butibori, not only married to the boy (now 24-year-old) she eloped with, but also mother to a six-month-old child. The girl, a Class X student when she disappeared, had fallen in love with a labourer working near her residence in the MIDC area. Her family came to know about their relationship and was planning to shift her to a relative's house to separate them. Fearing permanent separation, the couple eloped. "They first moved to Rajasthan, where the boy worked earlier, and stayed there for nearly one-and-a-half years and also got married. Later, they relocated to Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, the boy's hometown," said Senior PI Lalita Todase of AHTU. She added that a police team tracked them down to Jaunpur, but the couple coincidentally left the town the same morning the team reached. On Saturday, AHTU officers raided the house and found the girl living with the boy and their infant son. She was immediately taken into protective custody, counselled, and later handed over to MIDC police for further action. PSI Santosh Khandekar, the investigating officer from MIDC police station, confirmed that a case was registered against the boy. "He has been detained, and a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act is being initiated, as the girl was a minor at the time of abduction and marriage," he said. Police officials added that the girl is currently staying at a govt hostel along with her infant son, as her family has refused to take her back. The operation was carried out under the leadership of DCP (Detection) Rahul Maknikar, and Additional Police Commissioner Abhijit Patil. Wife among three get life term for man's murder in Jabalpur
Jabalpur: A woman, her lover and his accomplice have been sentenced to life in jail for her husband's murder in Jabalpur in 2022, and staging the crime as a road accident after he objected to the affair. The special court of Judge Girish Dixit that hears cases under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act found all three guilty on the basis of evidence presented by the prosecution. According to the prosecution, Ashish Chaudhary, a resident of the Majhgawan police station area, worked as a mason, and was married to Manisha alias Sadhana. Ashish's wife was involved in a love affair with Dharmendra alias Dhannu, who lived in her village. To remove the obstacle in their relationship, the wife conspired with Dharmendra and his accomplice Amil alias Chalis to murder Chaudhary. On Sept 25, 2022, Chaudhary went to Kumhi village for a weekly market. According to the plan, Dharmendra and Amil met Ashish at the market. They made him drink alcohol, causing him to become heavily intoxicated. The two then took him on his motorcycle towards Parsel village, where they killed him by hitting his head with a stone. To make the murder look like an accident, they left the body and motorcycle at the scene to suggest he had died in a drunken road crash. District public prosecutor Smritilata Barkade and special public prosecutor Navita Pillai represented the state in the court.

The Supreme Court established two special investigation teams (SITs) in May to probe FIRs against Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah and Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad. These SITs, composed of IPS officers from outside the respective states, were formed due to concerns about overburdened national agencies and the need for effective investigations.
