Lili Reinhart explores the murky depths of the internet in nail-biting new thriller

Riverdale's Lili Reinhart stars in the upcoming crime thriller, American Sweatshop, which showcases the psychological toll placed on social media moderators in the age of doom-scrolling A new crime thriller starring a Riverdale alum Lili Reinhart shows the human - and often harrowed faces - of social media moderators. The upcoming film delves into the emotional toll of stripping the internet of its most obscene content and the responsibility of social media platforms to report crimes. ‌ In American Sweatshop, Reinhart plays the role of Daisy Moriarty, a social media moderator tasked with purging the internet of offensive content. But when Daisy spots a video involving a woman, a hammer and a nail, she sets on an obsessive quest to hold someone accountable. ‌ 'My first ticket of the morning is a beheading,' says Reinhart's character in the trailer's opening. 'Oh yeah, I've seen that one,' replies her colleague. The exchange showcases the corporate mundanity and apathy highlighted in the one hour and 40 minute-film, before it takes a dramatic and sinister turn. The trailer comes after everyone in the UK with WhatsApp put on red alert and told to follow three new rules. ‌ American Sweatshop is directed by Uta Briesewitz, who has worked on Westworld, Stranger Things and Severance. The film is written by Matthew Nemeth and is set for release in the US on September 19, 2025. No UK release date has yet been announced. The film premiered in March at the 2025 SXSW festival in Austin Texas. According to Mashable, American Sweatshop is a 'cyberthriller for the doom-scrolling age'. ‌ The psychological toll experienced by social media moderators has gained greater attention in recent years as anonymous workers have opened up about their work in organisations like TikTok and Facebook. In a 2023 Guardian article, one anonymous moderator explained how difficult the job could be. They said they were judged on how quickly they moderated and described the training as 'overwhelming'. ‌ 'In the video queue you have no control over what you receive,' shared the anonymous moderators. They described a typical selection of the videos in their queue as including phishing and scam videos, hardcore pornography, Get-Ready-With-Mes posted by underaged users, livestream recordings and doxxed information followed by threats of violence. Just two years prior, a then 26-year-old former Facebook moderator named Isabella told the BBC that 'everyday was a nightmare' and said the support she was offered was 'insufficient'. 'The high priority queues - the graphic violence, the child stuff, the exploitation and the suicides, people working from home don't get that - the burden is put on us,' said Isabella. The European addition to similar centres established in Los Angeles, Washington DC and Singapore. Now located in The Sorting Office, DUBTAC is meant to offer an opportunity for academics, businesses, policymakers, politicians, regulators, researchers and many other expert audiences from around the world 'to see first-hand how teams at TikTok go about the critically important work of securing our community's safety, data, and privacy'. Visitors will have an opportunity to learn about moderation systems, processes, and policies, including exploring how moderation teams make decisions about content based on the Community Guidelines and the way human reviewers supplement moderation efforts using technology.

Is Patrick leaving EastEnders as soap legend is left to die?

This article contains spoilers for tonight's episode of EastEnders, which airs at 7.30pm on BBC One or can be streamed now on iPlayer. Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) has been left for dead. He was on cloud nine after placing a winning bet – scooping up £6,000 with thanks to Howie Danes (Delroy Atkinson) making the punt for him. As viewers will remember, fiancé Yolande (Angela Wynter) told Patrick that their upcoming wedding would be off if she caught him at the bookies again. He stood outside flashing the cash to her, hoping she'd be impressed, but got quite the negative reception and went to drown her sorrows at the pub. A gloomy Patrick then returned home, unaware of the horrors that would await him… Patrick was horrified to spot a masked intruder holding his cash. He slammed the living room door closed and prepared to stage an intervention when the robber launched towards him. During the scuffle, Patrick's head hit the floor and he was knocked unconscious. The burglar? None other than foolish Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier), who desperately needed the money to pay off his thuggish associate Fat Mike (Tai Hilferink). Mike had threatened the Branning clan's safety, and despite Oscar's efforts to form a business deal with Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), made the decision to target Patrick. Little did he realise, sister Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) had already secured the funds with thanks to the kindness of her boss Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick). But what about Patrick? Will he survive? Luckily, it seems Patrick survives the ordeal. As the week goes on we'll see his concerned family keep vigil at the hospital, as the police up their efforts to track down his attacker. With Patrick and Yolande's wedding scheduled for 1st September, it seems that they will eventually walk down the aisle. It's likely that she'll change her stance on his betting after today's assault. We also know that Patrick's beloved son Anthony (Nicholas Bailey) is set to return, with the two actors pictured on set. The former Walford doctor was last seen a little over a decade ago when he staged a short return for one episode following Patrick's stroke. More Trending We know he's back in town for the nuptials, however, also comes at a significant moment for Patrick and it means that his stay is longer than he intended. EastEnders Executive Producer Ben Wadey added: 'It's great to welcome Nicholas back to the EastEnders family to reunite Patrick with his son. 'But Anthony's plan for a brief return to surprise his father ends up with him staying longer than he expected when he uncovers what has been going on in the Trueman household.' Cheeky racegoer's scene-stealing moment during live horse racing TV coverage

Unbeknown to RacingTV presenters Fran Berry and Donn McLean working at Galway, a racing fan dropped his trousers to moon at the screen in the background A cheeky racegoer pulled off a scene-stealing moment during live horse racing coverage on Saturday. The week long Galway Festival is one of the highlights of Ireland's racing calendar which features seven consecutive days of Flat and jumps action and is renowned for its lively atmosphere. ‌ Day six of the marathon meeting had concluded with the Kevin Coleman-trained Thatwilldoso winning the 1m4f handicap, run at 6.05pm. On course RacingTV presenters Fran Berry and Donn McLean were wrapping up the day's action when unbeknown to them their broadcast was being photo-bombed. ‌ Berry had no idea until after he finished he started receiving messages alerting him to what had been going on in the background. ‌ He took a sceen shot of the clip and posted it on his social media with the message, 'Protests about the toilet roll shortage in Galway have intensified'. Among the best responses were 'cracking selfie', 'some craic' and 'first-time cheekpieces, Fran'. Berry told Mirror Racing: 'It was quite noisy by the last race on Saturday with a syndicate-owned horse having won. We were positioned inside the winners' ring and there was a lot of cheering going on. 'As we were doing a wrap we were completely unaware of what happened behind us. As soon as we finished up I got a lot of WhatsApp message with pictures and video of the lad in question. 'It's the nature of Galway, you can see everything and anything. There was no malice, it was just lads on a day out having too good a time. It was all taken in good humour.' He added: 'There was no toilet roll shortage by the way, it was just a caption to go with it. 'Galway is very easy going, the three lads looked to be enjoying themselves and no harm was done.'
