Haryana Chief Secretary reviews 25 high-value projects
The Administrative Secretaries presented detailed updates on 25 high-value projects, collectively of over Rs 28,000 crore, spanning sectors like urban development, transport, home, health and industrial growth.
Chief Secretary Rastogi directed the officials to proactively resolve bottlenecks and complete the projects on prescribed timelines. A standout achievement is the Rs 100 crore project under the Home Department for installing CCTV cameras across police stations and posts, which has been fully completed and is operational. This initiative significantly strengthens public safety and law enforcement capabilities.
Similarly, the Cooperation Department's Rs 179.75 crore mega food park in Rohtak, managed by HAFED, has achieved an impressive 97 per cent completion. With most milestones met, including the setup of the Central Processing Centre and Primary Processing Centres, this project is poised to boost agro-processing and create rural employment opportunities.
The Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Department showcased progress in civic infrastructure. Projects such as the Rs 248.33 crore sewerage systems in Faridabad's Pratapgarh and Mirzapur, the Rs 133.78 crore sewerage network in Ambala Sadar, and the Rs 109.13 crore water supply initiative in Rohtak have all reached 100 per cent completion.
Additionally, the Rs 130.21 crore sewerage project in Karnal, including a 142-km network and two sewage treatment plants, has been fully completed, significantly enhancing urban sanitation. The Rs 129.30 crore MCG Office Building in Gurugram, at 84 per cent completion, and the Rs 123.47 crore modernisation of Raja Nahar Singh Stadium in Faridabad, at 60 per cent completion, further highlight the department's strides in improving urban amenities.
In the Town and Country Planning sector, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) reported progress on various projects. The Rs 110 crore 100 MLD water treatment plant at Chandu Bhudera was inaugurated by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday. The Rs 679.80 crore Shree Sheetla Mata Devi Medical College and Hospital in Gurugram is advancing steadily and will soon serve as a cornerstone of healthcare infrastructure. The Rs 226.31 crore sewerage pipeline project in Gurugram's Sector 58 to 115 has also been fully completed, ensuring robust urban sanitation, an official statement said.
The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) updated the meeting on transformative transport projects, including the Rs 5,453 crore Gurugram Metro (HUDA City Centre to Cyber City), the Rs 6,056.70 crore Faridabad-Gurugram Metro link, and two Regional Rapid Transport Systems (RRTS) projects: Delhi-Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (Rs 6,436 crore) and Sarai Kale Khan-Panipat (Rs 4,699 crore). Additionally, the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority's Rs 217 crore Ranney Wells project is progressing to ensure a sustainable water supply.

"Someone has to make a decision, good or bad. It is a thankless job. They cannot satisfy everyone,'' he said. "They knock out money from developers for selecting them for redevelopment,'' he said. Another developer with a slew of redevelopment projects in the prime Bandra-Khar belt, said some PMCs and MCs "rig tenders" so that the project goes to a selected builder. "These syndicates (nexus of PMC and MC) are known to get kickbacks ranging from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore in prime localities. Redevelopment is their payday," he said. This developer further said what surprises him is that most of these shady MC members come from a wealthy background. Housing activist Chandrashekar Prabhu, who has been pushing for self-redevelopment, said some builders inflate numbers in feasibility reports for redevelopment. "These builders spent huge sums to pay office bearers to select PMCs on their payrolls so that they can manipulate the feasibility reports to make it appear that the builders would hardly earn any profits in the redevelopment schemes. In return for convincing members to agree to a PMC, the architect, structural engineer, liaison consultant, other consultants, select managing committee members and office bearers are paid off. Some builders offer upfront payment to office bearers to identify vulnerable families willing to sell their flats. Moreover, if all members can be convinced the deal offered is the best, proactive office bearers will be given free flats in another project. For every decision that results in an increase of profits for the builder, there is a good share of the spoils for office bearers,'' he said. Advocate Vinod Sampat said the positive aspect of MCs is they protect the interests of society members. ``Many of these committees are experts in various fields and are knowledgeable. Most decisions are taken transparently,'' he said. But Sampat said he has seen the dark side too, where an MC is hand-in-glove with the developer. "The rotten ones will deliberately leave loopholes in development agreements so that income tax and GST liability falls on the members instead of the developer,'' he said, adding arbitration with the builder in case of a dispute will financially ruin the society. Punjab vigilance raids realtor hours after he joins BJP; political vendetta, says leader
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) Saturday conducted searches at three premises linked to real estate developer and former Akali leader Ranjit Singh Gill in Chandigarh's Sector 2, barely 12 hours after he was inducted into the BJP by Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini. Gill and and the BJP strongly condemned the action, accusing the AAP government of indulging in 'political vendetta'. The Vigilance Bureau, however, claimed to have uncovered details of suspicious financial transactions running into crores between Gillco Developers — the Mohali-based realty firm founded by Gill — and entities linked with Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia who is currently in jail after being arrested in a disproportionate assets case. Gill was the 'halka in-charge' of Kharar for the Akali Dal till he quit the party in July. He was widely tipped to join AAP, especially after ruling party's Kharar MLA, Anmol Gagan Maan, announced her resignation and decision to quit politics on July 19. However, she took back her resignation the very next day. A senior vigilance official said that the searches at Gill's residence was in furtherance of the investigations into an FIR (No. 22, dated June 25) registered at Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) Police Station Flying Squad, SAS Nagar, against Majithia. The official added that searches were carried out three premises linked to Gillco Developers in Punjab and Chandigarh. 'During the searches, the Bureau uncovered details of suspicious financial transactions running into crores between Gillco Developers and entities linked with Majithia. Further investigations are ongoing,' the official said. Majithia was held on June 25. According to the FIR registered by the Vigilance Bureau, its preliminary investigation has revealed that more than Rs 540 crore worth of 'drug money' was laundered in several ways and Majithia had allegedly facilitated it. The official added that after registration of FIR against Majithia, certain suspicious financial links and transactions between Gillco Developers and some of the entities had come to notice. 'These were developed in a meticulous manner by conducting investigations. To conduct further in-depth inquiries into these transactions and to gather relevant evidence, the Vigilance Bureau conducted these searches in accordance with procedure established by law,' the official said. Bureau officials said several incriminating documents, electronic devices and other evidences have been seized in the ongoing searches. An official spokesperson said that the search operations were conducted strictly in accordance with the legal procedures and the search was still underway. 'Electronic devices and relevant documents were also seized during the searches', he added.
