LeBron James Saddened By Attack At The Liverpool Parade

Yahoo27-05-2025
Liverpool held a celebratory parade after winning the Premier League this season, but a joyous occasion would turn tragic. Several fans were injured when a car plowed into a crowd during the parade.
Police and first responders say 27 people were hospitalized as a result of the attack, while several others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Liverpool are based in England, but the club has fans all over the world. One of the team's biggest supporters - and an investor in the club - reacted to the tragedy on social media.
"OMG!!!! WTH. My deepest thoughts and prayers goes out to everyone affected that attended LFC's Premiere League trophy parade today! Such a senseless act!," said NBA star LeBron James.
James added the #YNWA hashtag to his message, short for "You'll Never Walk Alone."
The song is played before every Liverpool home game at Anfield, and has become synonymous with the team throughout its history.
James has been a part-owner of Liverpool Football Club since 2011, and has attended games at Anfield.
The soccer world at large has reacted to the tragedy in Liverpool on Monday, with the Premier League issuing a statement stating that it is "shocked by the appalling events" and that "heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected."
The league also noted that it has been in contact with the club and has offered support.
"Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this serious incident in our city," said Everton, Liverpool's fierce rival. Another rival team, Manchester United, said that its thoughts are with Liverpool after an "awful incident."
Liverpool won the Premier League this season, taking home the trophy for the second time under the current classification. They've been champions of the first division of English soccer 20 times, with the Premier League structure starting in 1992.
It's the second time Liverpool has won the title since 2020, when they ended a 30-year drought between titles. The team was unable to celebrate with home fans after winning that year due to the pandemic, and their celebration this season has been marred by a senseless act of violence.

Mikel Arteta confident Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori, Jurrien Timber will be fit for start of Arsenal's season

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a positive update on defenders Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber, suggesting all three should be available for the start of the Premier League. Asked after Arsenal's 1-0 friendly defeat against Tottenham in Hong Kong whether there was any risk of them missing the match against Manchester United on August 21, Arteta told reporters: 'I don't think so. If they evolve like they've evolved in the last few days — Gabriel Magalhaes, Calafiori and Timber — the three of them will be available.' Advertisement Gabriel has not played in any of Arsenal's three friendlies in Asia after picking up an injury in training. Calafiori started the games against Milan and Newcastle, but was absent against Tottenham. Timber has been continuing his rehabilitation after undergoing surgery in May, but did take part in a training session with the team on Tuesday evening. Leandro Trossard was substituted against Tottenham, and Arteta confirmed he had suffered an injury. 'Yeah he felt a little tweak,' said the Arsenal manager. 'I think he tried to turn and he was pushed and he felt something muscular so we'll have to assess him.' Kepa Arrizabalaga, meanwhile, was absent from the squad after picking up a minor injury in Singapore. 'Yeah, he felt something as well in the game against Newcastle,' confirmed Arteta. 'I think it's a matter of days, probably. If that was the Premier League he could have played but we decided not to take a risk.' That final point is important — at this stage of pre-season, Arsenal are not inclined to take risks with players' fitness. If there is any doubt, they want to be cautious to ensure good availability at the start of the season. Although Arsenal were beaten by Spurs, Arteta said he felt the friendlies in Singapore and Hong Kong had been a useful exercise. 'Yes, for the three of them and today in particular,' he added. 'Again, it threw different demands and different understanding of things that we have to do. I am very pleased with what I've seen in most of the things that we've done, but we miss something in certain moments. That preciseness, that moment that unlocks the result, the moment to turn the result our way and with the match. 'But in terms of attitude, the desire, level of organisation in the team, it was great and we have to continue to elevate a little bit all the individual aspects.' Arsenal fly home on Friday, and have their two final friendlies at the Emirates Stadium next week against Villarreal (August 6) and Athletic Bilbao (August 9).

Tom Brady snaps at Birmingham employee over ‘f–king stupid' David Beckham decision in new doc

Tom Brady made it clear that he would make significant changes when he became minority owner of Birmingham City in August 2023. The retired quarterback, 47, didn't hold back while calling the shots in front of English football legend David Beckham in Amazon Prime Video's docuseries 'Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues,' which drops Friday and follows Birmingham's promotion to the Championship last season. During the second of five episodes, Brady snapped at a Birmingham City aide before Birmingham's 3-1 victory over Wrexham, owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, in September, according to multiple U.K. outlets. 3 Tom Brady, minority owner of Birmingham City (L) with David Beckham to the Sky Bet League One match between Birmingham and Wrexham AFC at St Andrewâs at Knighthead Park on September 16, 2024 in Birmingham, England. Getty Images Brady wasn't happy over the aide suggesting that Beckham, who was Brady's guest at the U.K. clash, shouldn't receive a Birmingham gift bag due to Beckham's lack of affiliation with the team, having only played for Manchester United while he was in England. 'That's f–king stupid,' Brady said. 'Give him a gift bag to take home. It's a sweet thing. He doesn't have to wear it.' Prior to the match, seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady was seen telling Birmingham City co-owner Tom Wagner that they should gift Beckham with goodies from the club, including a sweater, hoodie, a scarf and a hat. Elsewhere in the five-part docuseries, Brady discussed potential changes he wanted to make in order to shift the losing culture of the club. He said he was 'a little worried' about former manager Wayne Rooney's 'work ethic' — and called some of the team from the 2023-24 season 'lazy and entitled.' 3 Tom Brady minority owner of Birmingham City and Chairman Tom Wagner ahead of the Sky Bet League One match against Wrexham AFC at St Andrewâs at Knighthead Park on September 16, 2024 in Birmingham, England. Getty Images 'Well, we've already changed the coach, so it's really the players because the coach doesn't go out there and put the ball in the goal,' Brady said after Birmingham's relegation in his first season with the club. 'They were lazy, they were entitled and when you're lazy and entitled, you don't have much of a chance to succeed. We've got to change all the people that are associated with losing, so I think this summer there's going to be a lot of people gone.' 3 Birmingham City co-owner Tom Brady (centre), CEO Garry Cook (left) and director Matt Alvarez (right) in the stands before the Sky Bet Championship match at St. Andrew's, Birmingham on August 12, 2023. Both Birmingham and Wrexham went on to receive automatic promotion to the Championship last season. The Blues secured the title with an English Football League record of 111 points. Wrexham finished second with 92 points. Birmingham begins their season at home against Ipswich Town on Aug. 8.

49ers signing former second-round pick to help RB room

The San Francisco 49ers were just outside the top-10 in rushing yards last season, finishing with the 11th-highest average per game in 2024 (127.2). Since then, the 49ers have gotten Christian McCaffrey back from injury, moved on from Israel Abanikanda, Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason and drafted Jordan James in the fifth round. With James missing the team's last training camp session on Tuesday at their SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California, the 49ers worked out multiple running backs, including old friend Jeff Wilson Jr., D'Ernest Johnson, Deon Jackson and Ameer Abdullah on Wednesday. Then, on Thursday morning, CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported that they're signing Ameer Abdullah to their 90-man roster. Abdullah, 32, was an impressive running back and kick returner at Nebraska from 2011-14, earning All-Big Ten honors three times in his four seasons before the Detroit Lions took him in the second round (No. 54 overall) of the 2015 NFL draft. He's spent 2.5 years with the Lions, another 2.5 with the Minnesota Vikings, one with the Carolina Panthers and three with the Las Vegas Raiders. In his 10 professional seasons, he's rushed for 1,994 yards and eight touchdowns on 4.0 yards per attempt while catching 203 passes for another 1,468 yards and 11 scores. Abdullah has also averaged 25.1 per kick return on 151 attempts over the last 10 years. With McCaffrey at the top of the depth chart, Abdullah will now slide in behind with James, Isaac Guerendo, Patrick Taylor and undrafted rookie Corey Kiner. However, Abdullah could be taking James' spot if he's expected to miss significant time after he was unexpectedly absent from the last training camp session.
