Third straight win for the Kingdom in the William Jones Cup
Bahrain continued their unbeaten run at the 44th William Jones Cup with an 81–69 win over Malaysia on Monday morning in New Taipei City, improving their record to 3–0. The result follows back-to-back wins over Japan U25 (85–69) and hosts Chinese Taipei White (71–63).
After a tight first half in which Bahrain trailed by three late in the second quarter, a 25-point third period shifted momentum decisively. Mustafa Rashed led Bahrain's scoresheet with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including five threes, while Jakarr Sampson added 22 points and 7 rebounds.
Quarter-by-Quarter
Malaysia opened with a close first half, staying within striking distance. They trailed just 15–13 after the opening quarter and briefly took the lead before Bahrain responded. The sides went into the break with Bahrain narrowly ahead, 35–38.
The third quarter, however, saw Bahrain turn the screws defensively, holding Malaysia to just 10 points while pouring in 25 of their own behind key buckets from Sampson and Ahmed Bindayneh.
Despite a 21-point fourth-quarter effort from Malaysia, Bahrain closed the game out comfortably.
Standouts and stats
Beyond Rashed and Sampson, Subah Azzam had a solid outing with 8 points and 2 threes in just 20 minutes. Devon Chism contributed 8 points and 11 rebounds, while Ali Rashed provided playmaking off the bench with 4 assists and efficient minutes.
Defensively, Bahrain held Malaysia to 38.8% shooting, including just 24.1% from three, and dominated the glass with 43 total rebounds. Bahrain's 22 team assists reflected strong ball movement and rhythm in halfcourt sets.
Malaysia were led by Yi Hou Wong, who scored 27 points, but received little support, with only Chun Hong Ting (18 points) also reaching double figures.
What's next?
Bahrain's next opponent is Australia United tomorrow at 8AM, followed by matchups against the UAE, Qatar B, Chinese Taipei, and Strong Group Athletics across a packed week.

Headline: Bahrain Stay Perfect With Win Over UAE

TDT | Manama After dropping 106 points on Australia the day before, Bahrain had to find a different gear against UAE, and they did just that. With the game on the line, Bahrain outlasted their Gulf rivals 77–71 to stay unbeaten in the Jones Cup. Now 5–0, the Kingdom sit firmly atop the standings with three more matches remaining. A Fast Start Bahrain sprinted out of the gates with a 24–9 first quarter, locking down UAE's shooters and owning the glass. Jakarr Sampson and Devon Chism controlled the paint early, while Rashed got loose for a pair of threes. But the second half was anything but smooth. UAE clawed their way back behind Omar Alameri's 16 points and a strong third quarter from Demarco Dickerson. The Emiratis won Q3 25–17 and cut Bahrain's lead to just one. For the first time in this tournament, Bahrain looked vulnerable. Cue the late composure. Cometh the Hour, Cometh the Man With the game tight, Mustafa Rashed stepped up in a big way by scoring 31 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including five triples and a perfect 4-for-4 at the line. He bailed Bahrain out of multiple tough possessions and created breathing room with a timely three in the fourth. Jakarr Sampson didn't have the most efficient night (7-22 FG), but his 18 points and 14 rebounds were crucial. Devon Chism nearly posted a triple-double: 8 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks. Bahrain's size wore UAE down over four quarters. They grabbed 24 offensive rebounds and totaled 9 blocks, which is one of their best rim-protecting performances to date. What's Next Bahrain will get a lighter assignment tomorrow against Qatar B, followed by crucial games against Chinese Taipei A and Strong Group Athletics (PHI). With the Kingdom sitting 5–0, the path to a perfect run is real, but there's still business to handle.

Bahrain Eye Back-to-Back Titles on Home Court

TDT | Manama West Asia Volleyball Championship kicks off Saturday The West Asia Men's Volleyball Championship kicks off Saturday at Isa Bin Rashid Arena, and hosts Bahrain look more than ready. On Tuesday, the national team put in a strong showing, winning straight sets over Saudi Arabia. It was their second friendly win over the same opponents in the lead-up to the tournament. The set scores were 27–29, 25–19, 25–19. The win served as Bahrain's final tune-up under head coach Arnaud Gosserand, and it capped off a short but sharp preparation window for a squad aiming for their second title of the summer "When you win an Asian cup, the only goal is to win the next competition", said an ambitious Gosserand. The Competition The West Asia Volleyball Association (WAVA) has officially locked in the tournament pools: Group A: Bahrain, Jordan, UAE, Lebanon Group B: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman This is the first-ever senior men's championship organized under WAVA, part of a long-term strategy to grow the sport across the region. Bahrain, with its recent rise in Asian volleyball, has positioned itself at the heart of that vision. Carrying Momentum Bahrain won the 23rd Arab Volleyball Championship in November last year, and just last month, they lifted their first AVC Men's Volleyball Nations Cup title. Both achievements were on home soil. That historic AVC run featured standout performances from a now-familiar core: With chemistry intact and confidence high, Bahrain enter this tournament as favorites. They open their campaign Saturday against Lebanon, followed by group matches against Jordan on Sunday, and UAE on Monday. All matches are set for 7PM and will be played at Isa Bin Rashid Arena in front of a home crowd hoping to see another title-winning run.
