Gunshots fired into Surrey banquet hall, police investigating

Yahoo2 days ago
Shots were fired at Surrey's Royal King Palace banquet hall Monday.
Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said at around 1 a.m. on Monday a staff member discovered damage to the outside of the business.
Police were called at 11 a.m., where it was determined the damage was caused by gun shots.
'There were no reports of any injuries related to the property or surrounding properties,' Houghton said. 'It is unknown if the business damaged was the intended target or when the shots were fired. This investigation in its early stages and connections to other incidents and potential motives are being explored.'
Last month, some South Asian business owners called on the SPS to provide more help dealing with extortion threats.
At that time, police said they had received at least 10 reports of extortion threats targeting South Asian businesses and individuals and that the problem was not limited to Surrey.
On June 14, Surrey business Satish Accounting Services was shot at, four days after shots were fired at Hub Insurance. On June 7 shots were fired into the windows of Reflections Banquet Hall in Surrey.
It is not known whether the July 21 shooting is related to an extortion attempt.

Jim Cramer on New Gold: 'It's Okay'

New Gold Inc. (NYSE:NGD) is one of the stocks Jim Cramer reflected on. During the lightning round, a caller inquired about the stock, and Cramer replied: 'It's okay. I mean, why not buy Agnico Eagle? That's the one I really, really like. They're doing so well. Let's go with that, Agnico.' Pixabay/Public Domain New Gold (NYSE:NGD) is a mining company focused on the exploration, development, and operation of mineral properties, primarily producing gold, silver, and copper from its key assets in Ontario and British Columbia. The company recently announced its Q2 earnings result date, which is set on July 28. During the last quarter earnings, New Gold's (NYSE:NGD) President and CEO, Patrick Godin, noted a strong start to the year, highlighting the company's full ownership of New Afton, successful refinancing of senior notes, and extension of its credit facility. Two updated Technical Reports were also released, which showed improved production outlooks and reduced costs. The CEO added: 'Operationally, we delivered our first quarter as planned, advancing several critical path objectives to set ourselves up to achieve our annual guidance. At New Afton, B3 grades were higher than expected as the cave nears exhaustion, which is now expected by the end of the second quarter of 2025. At Rainy River, our efforts to sequence waste stripping in the early months of the year have allowed us to remain on-track for a step-up in production starting in the second quarter, and to deliver an improved second half of the year. Additionally, underground development continues to advance, and I'm pleased to report the successful pit portal breakthrough occurred in early April, an important catalyst that enables the underground ramp-up to advance throughout the year.' Man who murdered four University of Idaho students in 2022 being sentenced

A man who murdered four University of Idaho students in November 2022 is being sentenced. Bryan Kohberger, a 30-year-old former criminal justice student, initially denied the killings as part of a deal that meant he would likely avoid the death penalty. Kohberger was accused of sneaking into a rented home in Moscow, , which is not far from the university campus, and murdering Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves. In court today, who survived the attack, Bethany Funke, said about her roommates in a statement: "I hated and still hate that they are gone, but for some reason, I am still here and I got to live. I still think about this every day. Why me? Why did I get to live, and not them?" Post-mortem examinations showed the four were stabbed multiple times and were likely asleep when they were attacked - with some sustaining defensive wounds. Kohberger has never revealed his motive and it is not clear why he spared two roommates who were in the home. He was arrested at his parents' home in Pennsylvania weeks after following a nationwide search. This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.
