Aussie comedian Sam Pang delivered a brutal opening speech at the 2025 Logies. Read the full speech below:
'Good evening everyone and welcome to Australian television's night of nights, the 65th Annual TV Week Logie Awards. Firstly I would like to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the traditional land and pay my respects to elders both past and present. I extend that respect to all First Nations people here today.
One more time put your hands together for living legend Jimmy Barnes. Jimmy Barnes singing Working Class Man… welcome to the 1985 Logies. I'm your host Greg Evans. Working Class Man – I cant think of a song that has less of a connection to the people in this room tonight.
It is once again a huge honour to be your host tonight, and its inspiring world in as much turmoil as it is right now, that we as an industry have not wavered in our commitment and bravery in coming together tonight to honour ourselves. … This is my third time hosting so hopefully thats enough Kerri-Anne Kennerley to stop calling me Anh Do.
We're here tonight to celebrate excellence in Australian television and what a year it's been. Fisk, Bluey, The Newsreader, Territory, Apple Cider Vinegar, The Twelve, Colin from Accounts, Lego Masters, Home and Away, Have You Been Paying Attention and Channel 9s Olympics coverage all made for another wonderful year and one the industry can be very proud of.
Congratulations to Bluey which was the most streamed show in the world this past year. What an achievement. Bluey is massive in the United States and is officially the watched America, just ahead of a school shooting safety video.
I'd like to point out that there's a new award this year, the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Reporter, of course named after the legend Ray Martin. A journalist for over 60 years, even at the age of 80, he remains one of this country's most inquisitive minds, Ray is always asking questions. Even tonight, I saw him on the red carpet and he asked me, 'Sam, Where am I ?' Ray and have a great night, rest in peace.
The popularity of dating shows continued this year and I've long been of the opinion that romantic than a televised overly produced quest for love. There's two that stand above the rest. Farmer Wants A Wife – which has an incredible success rate. Over its 15 seasons, the show has resulted in 11 marriages and 27 children – meaning it is now officially the main way for farmers in this country to get screwed outside of Coles and Woolies.
And of course, my favourite, Married at First Sight, in its 12th season. And the big story this year was when Paul punched a hole in a wall after finding out his TV wife slept with a rapper. A story as old time. By the way a hole in the wall is something most of the contestants would be very familiar with. This season MAFS was criticised for breaching ethical standards – producers strongly defending themselves saying every contestant had to undergo a Mental Health evaluation, an STI test and IQ test – and if they failed all of those, they were on.
We all know MAFS is famous for its debaucherous dinner parties – never miss a Sunday night, and Ive actually got an idea for next season – I think they should cast the mushroom lady as the caterer.
After 16 years, a television institution, The Project, aired its last episode in June. An amazing run. It undoubtedly delivered news differently – where else could you get updates on the war in Syria… from Dave Hughes.
Channel Ten replaced The Project with 10News+, which is like the Titanic replaced with the OceanGate Submarine. Game shows and quiz shows are all the rage. One of the most popular is Dancing With The Stars, where viewers try to guess is the dancer, and which one is the star.
The Voice is about to launch its 14th season. New coaches include Sporty Spice Mel C and Richard Marx. What are the odds of both of them being available? Richard… welcome and I hope you have a wonderful night. Big fan but I think we both know you answered the phone on the first ring.
SBS, our most diverse network, celebrates 50 years! Happy Birthday to my old employer and its worth noting that before SBS, many Australians had never seen a Serbian penis.
Congratulations to Karl Stefanovic who this year is celebrating 20 years on The Today Show. Sincerely Karl, well done on 20 informative, entertaining and underpaid co-hosts.
After a hugely popular win last year Larry Emdur is not nominated for gold this year. Many people have questioned why? Well, it hurts me to say Larry but frankly the industry just couldn't afford the optics of you being the gold standard for two years in a row. Larry goes from winner to not even nominated. Hard to think of a channel 7 game show host with a bigger fall from grace in recent years. Anyway, have a good night and enjoy the free feed. the night will culminate in the presentation of the Gold Logie. Thats right, in little over 9 hours time, the winner of the Gold Logie will be announced.
Congratulations to the six incredible women who are nominated tonight. It really is inspiring to see what you've all achieved since Katy Perry went to space. Lets take a look at the Big 7. Sonia Kruger is nominated again. Last year Larry Emdur famously promised that if he won he'd have the names of the other Gold nominees tattooed on his behind. This year, Sonia has promised that if she wins, shell deliver a coherent speech.
Lynne McGranger is nominated after 33 years on Home and Away. As we all know, Lynne is leaving the Theres a lot of speculation about how her character Irene will depart.Lynne has been working with the writers on her farewell story, and in a Logies exclusive I can reveal that – Irene is set to die tragically but happily, during an orgy with the Summer Bay Under 21s rugby team… A story as old as time.
Julia Morris is nominated again for Gold. This funny, talented woman has been nominated several times for the Gold Logie, but never won. I said those exact words last year and I mustremember to use them again next year. I have it on good authority won't be here next year, don't worry.
Lisa Millar from the ABC is nominated for the first time. Lisa is the host of Muster Dogs: Where Are They Now? – I have to say Lisa, I dont know if Ive ever been less interested in the answer to a question.
Ally Langdon from Channel 9 is up for Gold. One of Australia's pre-eminent journalists for over 20 years, Ally has said a vote for her is a vote for all the incredible people who make A Current Affair possible the producers, the crew, the dodgy plumbers, casanova conmen and the neighbours from hell.
Two time winner Hamish Blake is nominated again for Lego Masters. I voted for Hamish not because I don't support women, but because I want to see him deliver the most awkward acceptance speech of all time. Hamish, good luck and now you know how it feels to be the diversity pick.
And finally, Poh Ling Yeow, is nominated for Gold. … You should be easy to find in this room! Poh is the first Asian to take home Gold, apart from prospector Chung Lee Wong who struck gold in Ballarat in 1854. Good to have a horse in the race. Many of you may not know but Poh and I go way back… to the Ming dynasty.'

'I'm not retiring': Actress Lynne McGranger announces major career news after winning Gold at the 65th TV WEEK Logie Awards

Lynne McGranger has no plans to retire, a move many expected her to announce after winning Gold at the 65th TV WEEK Logie Awards. McGranger took home the gong at Sydney's The Star on Sunday evening, marking a celebrated end to the 72-year-old's three-decade-long role playing Irene Roberts on the famed Australian soap Home and Away. The actress announced her departure from the show in February and filmed her final scenes in March, with her exit airing in the coming days. Now, McGranger has traded Summer Bay for standing ovations and even could make a return to TV for the right role. She is on the road touring with the play, The Grandparents Club in which she plays modern grandmother Liz, who is navigating family complexities. 'I'm not retiring, absolutely not,' McGranger told The Daily Telegraph on Monday. 'If I had the opportunity to come back to television at some point, of course I would consider it depending on the role and the show…but not another 33 years because otherwise I'd be very, very old.' She described the momentous last few weeks as "the world's colliding" with Irene's storyline ending, a shift to live acting and now a Logies win. Reflecting on her time on Home and Away, she said she is very comfortable with her decision to leave the show given her record as the longest-serving female cast member of a TV soap in Australia. McGranger on Sunday evening won the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television over stars Julia Morris, Poh Ling Yeow, Allison Langdon, Hamish Blake, Lisa Millar and Sonia Kruger. "Thirty-three years, I've done this amazing show," she said when accepting her award, dressed in a stunning gold gown. "I'm thrilled and honoured. "Before I forget, this is going to be pride of place next to my 1974 Wagga Wagga Drama Festival Best Actress (award). "And it's true, it's absolutely true. That's when I went, 'This acting thing is kind of good! Maybe I will be better at it than I am at teaching'." Earlier in the evening, McGranger won the Silver Logie for Best Lead Actress in a Drama for the same role. "I know I've only got 30 seconds, but I'm old," she said at the time. "I want to thank the beautiful cast of Home and Away, who have just been my family and my friends. "I love you all." McGranger, on her final day on the Home and Away set, went out with a heartfelt farewell and was gifted flowers by her emotional co-stars. "I've had the ride of my life," she said in a statement. "And I love each and every one of you so much: The cast – Ray, Georgie, Emily, Shane, Ada, James, all the young'uns. "The art department, the writers, everybody – there are so many unsung heroes. This show is made up of so many parts. "You're all amazing, and it's been my great privilege to work with each and every one of you. "I'm touched, I'm humbled, and I'm so honoured. Thank you so much."

Lindsay Lohan arrives in Sydney for Freakier Friday premiere

Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. It's Sydney turn to get caught up in the hysteria of the Freaky Friday revival. Continuing the global press tour for the 2003 film's much-awaited sequel, Freakier Friday, Lindsay Lohan arrived at Sydney Airport ahead of Tuesday night's Australian premiere at Event Cinemas in Bondi Junction – and she was decked in top-to-toe designer gear. The Hollywood star was spotted touching down on Monday night with her entourage, including her husband, financier Bader Shammas, and their two-year-old son Luai. Lindsay Lohan arrived in Australia ahead of the Freakier Friday premiere at Event Cinemas in Sydney's Bondi Junction on Tuesday night. Picture: The actress was dripping in designer clothes, decked top to toe in Miu Miu and Hermès on her arrival on Monday. Picture: Lohan, 39, appeared in good spirits, smiling as she made her way through the terminal while wearing a Miu Miu denim jacket over her Miu Miu dress, believed to retail for $3,350 and $2,280, respectively. She topped it off with not one but two designer bags: one Miu Miu purse worth an estimated $3,540 and a Hermès Birkin Bag, which costs at least $20,000. Lohan was shielded fro the rain as she made her way to a waiting car at Sydney Airport. Picture: Not even the gloomy weather could dampen Lohan's mood as airport staff tried to shield her from the rain with umbrellas as she exited the terminal in her Miu Miu flats, said to cost $1,570. The rain did little to dampen Lohan's mood, with the actress appearing in good spirits as she smiled at fans. Picture: Lohan's husband Bader Shammas (left) was also spotted. Their son Luai also accompanied the pair on the trip, but was not seen by cameras. Picture: Lohan's co-star in the original film and now the reboot, Jamie Lee Curtis, was also spotted arriving in Sydney earlier on Monday. The beloved star, 66, walked through the terminal while wearing a black face mask, but her designer bag and signature poise was a dead giveaway of her Hollywood status. Jamie Lee Curtis was spotted arriving at Sydney International ahead of the Freakier Friday Australian premiere on Monday. Picture: Like Lohan, Curtis was also toting not one but two Goyard designer bags, estimated to retail for around $10,000. Picture: The sequel comes 22 years after the original film, in which single mother Tess Coleman (Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (Lohan) constantly bickered until a fortune cookie mishap caused them to switch lives and see things from the other's perspective. Fans lapped up the film, which earned Disney a cool $US160.8 million worldwide, quintupling its $US30 million budget. And over the years viewers have been asking for more. Curtis recently revealed why there was such a long wait between films in a recent interview with BBC program The One Show, revealing an Aussie link to the sequel. Freakier Friday hits cinemas on Thursday, August 7. The sequel features a multi-generational twist and also stars Julia Butters (left) and Sophia Hammons (right). 'The truth is that Lindsay had to be old enough to have a 15-year-old daughter, [but] people would ask me about the movie over and over again,' she shared. 'And finally someone in Australia said, 'Well, she is' and I was like, 'What do you mean?' because I know her as this young girl, so I don't know how old she is.' 'Someone told me [Lindsay's age] and I was, like, 'Oh! Well, maybe we can make the movie. Let's go!'' In the new film, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they all try to wrap their heads around merging the two families, lightening strikes twice and they soon find themselves in a four-way switch. Margot Robbie in talks to star in Tim Burton's new film

Margot Robbie is in talks to star in Tim Burton's Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman remake. The 35-year-old Australian actress is being considered for the lead role in the director's upcoming movie for Warner Bros and she would also produce the film through her LuckyChap production company, according to The InSneider. The 1958 movie is a science-fiction horror story which follows a wealthy heiress who grows into a giant after an alien encounter and goes on to take revenge on her cheating husband. It was reported last year that Burton would direct and produce the remake, with Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn writing the script. Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper are also producing with Kai Dolbashian as executive producer. However, Variety reports that Flynn exited the project due to other commitments after writing a first draft of the screenplay. The production team is searching for a new writer. Robbie's involvement would depend on the final version of the script. Margot Robbie is in talks to star in Tim Burton's Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman remake.
