Central, State bodies in A.P. owe over ₹5,400 crore to urban local bodies in property taxes
According to the department's latest data, the total outstanding tax dues across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) amount to approximately ₹5,480 crore. This includes ₹1,680 crore from Central institutions, ₹962 crore from State departments, ₹1,860 crore in Vacant Land Tax (VLT) arrears and ₹978 crore entangled in court cases.
Among State institutions, the biggest defaulter is A.P.-Transco's 132KV Yard in Kalyanadurgam, which owes ₹2.56 crore. In Cheemakurthy, A.P. Social Welfare Gurukula Patasala owes ₹1.34 crore, while the Mandal Revenue Office there owes ₹26 lakh. Other State defaulters include the office of Executive Director of the Scheduled Caste Corporation in Kakinada with ₹27 lakh in arrears towards the Peddapuram ULB, and the Electrical Substation Office in Darsi, which owes ₹25 lakh. Collectively, these top five State institutions owe ₹4.68 crore.
Defaulters among Central entities are even more prominent. The Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL-Visakhapatnam) under the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) alone owes the civic body a staggering ₹778 crore on vacant land and an additional ₹584 crore on non-residential properties tax, making it the largest tax defaulter in the State.
Other Central bodies with substantial dues include office of the Development Commissioner of Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone, which owes ₹33 crore, the Visakhapatnam Port Trust with ₹22 crore and South Central Railway in Vijayawada with ₹13.51 crore. Together, these institutions owe the civic bodies ₹1,430.51 crore.
The Principal Secretary has directed all municipal commissioners to issue statutory notices to these defaulters within a week. Additionally, the ULBs must publicly disclose the names and details of defaulting properties to initiate a more transparent enforcement process.
Officials were also instructed to identify properties not yet captured in the tax network and place notice boards on-site to warn of imminent legal action if dues remain unpaid, especially regarding vacant land holdings.

Pahalgam Terrorist's Funeral In PoK Takes Unexpected Turn
The funeral of Habib Tahir, one of the terrorists behind the April 22 strike who was killed in Jammu & Kashmir, was held in his village in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) last week - in yet another incident that proves Pakistan's complicity in the Pahalgam terror attack and cross-border terrorism. Earlier, members of the Pakistan Army had attended the funeral of terrorists who were killed in Operation Sindoor that was launched by India to avenge the killing of 26 tourists, including a Nepali citizen, in the Pahalgam strike. The terrorists killed were part of a banned group, the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) led by terrorist Hafiz Saeed. According to sources, Tahir was reportedly recruited and trained by Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the LeT, had claimed responsibility for the attack and was recently tagged as a terrorist organisation by the United States for its role. Tahir was among three Pahalgam terrorists shot dead in an encounter by security forces at Harwan in Srinagar on July 28. Srinagar Senior Superintendent Of Police GV Sundeep Chakravarty confirmed the terrorists belonged to LeT and were killed during Operation Mahadev. Videos and photos available on social media showed local residents in PoK's Kuiyaan village gathering for the final prayers for Tahir on July 30. The sources said the funeral, however, turned tense and took an unexpected turn when a local LeT commander, Rizwan Hanif, arrived with armed men despite the terror group being barred by Tahir's family. A confrontation erupted when Hanif's nephew allegedly threatened the mourners with a gun, leading to public outrage. Hanif and his associates were eventually forced to leave the spot. The resistance comes amid signs of a shift in state policy, with the Pakistani police taking action against events organised by terrorists and reduced public activity by such groups. In May, India released the names of top Pakistani officials who attended the funeral of LeT terrorists, who were gunned down during Operation Sindoor. Officials said the funeral of terrorists killed in Muridke in Pakistan's Punjab province was led by Abdul Rauf, a LeT commander who is a specially designated global terrorist by the United States. Muridke is home to the headquarters of the LeT and is known as the "terror nursery" of Pakistan. Reports said the Pahalgam terrorists were trained at this spot. Last month, Pakistan claimed it had "dismantled" the LeT and any effort to link the Pahalgam terror attack with the defunct terrorist network was against reality. Stating that the investigation into the Pahalgam attack is "still inconclusive," it said, "any linkage with LeT, a defunct organisation banned in Pakistan, belies ground realities".

Focus on revenue, Andhra ULBs told
VIJAYAWADA: The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department has launched an intensive campaign to enforce financial discipline and strengthen revenue sustainability across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State. Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar held a state-level video conference with all Municipal Commissioners, urging greater accountability in financial operations. ULBs were directed to improve collections of property tax and vacant land tax, and to explore Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models to reduce dependence on state funds. Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration, P Sampath Kumar, presented a financial health report for 2024–25, helping ULBs assess budget performance and prioritise essential services. Solid waste management, door-to-door garbage collection, and scientific waste disposal were identified as key focus areas to enhance urban livability. The review flagged substantial tax arrears, including Rs 1,680 crore from Central government entities, Rs 962 crore from State departments, Rs 1,860 crore in vacant land tax, and Rs 978 crore entangled in court cases. Major defaulters include Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (Rs 1,362 crore) and AP Transco (Rs 2.56 crore). Commissioners were instructed to serve notices within a week, publicise defaulter lists and initiate recovery processes. The department reaffirmed CM -monitored targets, including 100% household tap connections by 2029 and achieving plastic-free status in 17 ULBs by October 2025. ULB performance is being tracked via a real-time digital dashboard, with top-performing bodies to be recognised quarterly.

No farmer will be left out of Annadata Sukhibhava – PM Kisan: Collector
Tirupati: Tirupati District Collector Dr S Venkateswar has assured that every eligible farmer in the district will receive the benefits under the Annadata Sukhibhava–PM Kisan scheme. Speaking at the launch of the 2025–26 first phase of the programme held at the AP Seeds office in Srikalahasti on Saturday, he underlined the government's commitment to farmer welfare. The Collector, alongside local MLA B Sudhir Reddy, highlighted that the combined benefit of the Central PM-Kisan and State Annadata Sukhibhava schemes will provide Rs 20,000 annually to each farmer family in Andhra Pradesh. This amount will be disbursed in three instalments – Rs 7,000 in the current phase, another Rs 7,000 in October before the Rabi season, and the final Rs 6,000 during harvest time in January. While the Central government contributes Rs 6,000 under PM-Kisan, the remaining Rs 14,000 will come from the State government. In Tirupati district alone, Rs 105 crore has been credited on Saturday to the accounts of 1,54,908 farmers. The Collector announced the provision of 90 per cent subsidised urea and the setup of a dedicated grievance cell at the AP Seeds office to support farmers with information related to the scheme. MLA Sudhir Reddy noted that over 27,000 farmers in Srikalahasti constituency are availing the scheme. He criticised the previous government, saying farmers had suffered under YSRCP rule, and praised the present government for introducing initiatives such as farm mechanisation, subsidised drones, and storage godowns in every mandal to help farmers fetch better prices. District Agriculture Officer S Prasada Rao advised farmers to complete Aadhaar-bank linking for smooth benefit transfer and to visit nearby Rythu Seva Kendras if funds are not credited. Farmers can also get updates via WhatsApp on 9552300009. Later, a mega cheque was handed over to farmers by the Collector and MLA. AP Greenery and Beautification Corporation Chairperson M Sugunamma, several officials and farmer association representatives attended the event.
