Temple city turns to yoga, gears up for IYD celebrations
Over the past month, the district administration has led a series of initiatives including awareness drives, training sessions, and community engagements, sparking a visible transformation across all sections of society. Now, yoga has become a buzzword, embraced by people of all ages for its promise of holistic wellbeing.
The main event will take place at SV University's Tarakarama Stadium in Tirupati, where nearly 10,000 participants are expected to gather for a mass yoga demonstration. Elaborate arrangements have been made to mark the occasion with grandeur. Several other universities, schools, and private institutions are also planning celebrations in their own spaces, upholding the spirit of this year's IYD theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health.' 'Yoga is a divine medicine for both physical and mental ailments. It brings discipline into life,' said Ramesh, a postgraduate student at SV University.
Speaking to The Hans India, Dr R Lakshmi Narayana, Assistant Professor at the Department of Yoga Vignana, National Sanskrit University, remarked that yoga has reached almost every doorstep in recent years. 'The Prime Minister's consistent advocacy over the last decade has created real impact. People in villages and cities alike are recognising its value,' he said. He believes at least 50–60 per cent of those who take part in IYD will continue the practice, leading to long-term societal wellbeing.
Senior yoga practitioner and Founder Secretary of the Chittoor District Yoga Association, S Sreenivasulu Naidu, noted that the past year has witnessed a rapid rise in yoga awareness. 'Everyone from farmers in rural areas to tech employees in cities. is now aware of yoga's benefits. Whether they continue the practice or not, the awareness is firmly in place,' he observed.
'Earlier, people looked for free classes. Now, they seek certified instructors and are willing to pay for quality training,' Naidu added.
In a proud moment for the region, five students from Tirupati and four from Chittoor have been selected to perform yoga alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Visakhapatnam on IYD. They will be positioned at a gallery close to the Prime Minister during the event — a symbolic honour for the city's growing yoga community.

Minister: HPV vaccination for Plus 1 & 2 students soon
T'puram: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for Plus One and Plus Two students will be initiated in the state to prevent cervical cancer, said health minister Veena George on Monday. A technical committee will meet within a week for a final decision on the vaccine. "Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women. HPV vaccine is most effective for ages 9 to 14 years, but it can be administered up to the age of 26 years. Cervical cancer is preventable through vaccination and the state made this significant decision based on chief minister's directive," said a statement issued by the minister. The state is undertaking significant efforts to achieve a cervical cancer-free Kerala, she said. "An awareness campaign about HPV vaccination will also be organised. Awareness messages will be prepared according to the technical committee's guidelines. Special awareness will be provided at the school level as the students are in Plus One and Plus Two. Parents will also be informed of the need for administering the vaccination to their children," she added. Health department is conducting robust activities for cancer prevention, said George. "A cancer care grid has been established to coordinate diagnosis and treatment. As part of cancer prevention, a public campaign titled 'Health is Happiness, Keep Cancer Away' was launched. Over 1.7 million people were screened," she said, adding that the campaign would be further strengthened.

Bandi Sanjay dares KTR for open debate on BJP MP Ramesh's allegations
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has dared BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for an open debate on the charges made against him by BJP MP from Anakapalli C.M. Ramesh accusing him of making a proposal to merge BRS with BJP in 2023. Talking to reporters in Karimnagar on Sunday, Mr. Sanjay alleged that the BRS rule was steeped in corruption. 'BRS leaders had come up with the merger proposal unable to run their party,' he said in reply to a question. However, during his speech at a public meeting in Nizamabad in 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it crystal clear that BJP is against family-centric parties and politics of nepotism, he noted. 'Let him (KTR) decide the time and venue. I will arrange a public debate either in Karimnagar or Hyderabad to prove Mr. Ramesh's allegations against Mr. Rama Rao,' he said. 'BRS is on the verge of extinction and its leadership is incapable of running the party,' he charged, accusing Mr. Rama Rao of spearheading a false propaganda against the BJP through social media platforms. 'Such lies will not be tolerated anymore,' he warned, and alleged that the Congress leaders in Telangana were not reacting to KTR's 'abusive language' against their own leaders. Accusing the ruling Congress of 'pursuing appeasement politics', he demanded that 42% quota be exclusively earmarked for BCs by excluding Muslims from the BC list. New block Earlier, the Union Minister inaugurated the Critical Care Block constructed with Central fund at an estimated cost of ₹23.75 crore at the Government General Hospital in Karimnagar.
