Bruno Guimaraes puts hands around Cristian Romero's THROAT as pair clash during friendly
Bruno Guimaraes and Cristian Romero clashed in Seoul with the Newcastle man putting his hands around the Tottenham star's throat. The two Premier League rivals clashed in Seoul on Sunday as part of their pre-season preparations.
And it was a dramatic affair between the two sides, with the game finishing in a 1-1 draw - the goals coming via Brennan Johnson and Harvey Barnes. And there was even more drama before half-time between Brazilian midfielder Guimaraes and Argentine defender Romero.
The Newcastle man had managed to evade a wild challenge from the defender just outside of the penalty area. The Brazilian was then shoved to the floor by Romero when trying to make space.
Guimaraes reacted angrily to that push as he jumped up and put his hands around Romero's neck. The Brazilian was probably fortunate to escape further punishment but given the pre-season nature of the game, that might explain why.
The flashpoint between the pair was not the only incident during the game. The match potentially represents Son Heung-min 's final game for the North London side.
He was withdrawn just after the hour mark to great acclaim from supporters within the stadium. Meanwhile, midfielder James Maddison appeared to pick up what was a serious injury and had to be stretchered off of the pitch in the closing stages.
Speaking after the game, Spurs boss Thomas Frank said: 'I think sometimes in life and football things can be both beautiful and brutal. That's what we got today. It looks like with Madders a bad injury and then on the other side unbelievable scenes for Son from his team-mates and the respect from the Newcastle players.
'First we had the walkaround and then the team-mates gathered around and he was emotional. In the changing room it was more of the same.
"I just said a few things but not much because it's about Sonny and then he said a few things. It was beautiful."
Spurs now have just under two weeks left to go until their first Premier League match of the season against newly-promoted Burnley. Before that, they take on Bayern Munich in their final pre-season game.
Spurs also take on French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. Elsewhere, Newcastle take on Aston Villa in their Premier League opener.

Chelsea to sell £53m midfield duo after just five Premier League starts
Chelsea are on the verge of selling off two midfielders, who cost the club a combined £53million, to Premier League rivals. Enzo Maresca has been very busy this summer transfer window, splashing over £243m on eight new players, with Jorrel Hato the latest name through the door. There could be yet more incomings with the club working on a deal for RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons, while they maintain an interest in Manchester United wantaway Alejandro Garnacho. But the Blues still need to offload several stars who have no future at the club, following on from the sales of Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Djordje Petrovic. Additionally, striker Armando Broja and defender Bashir Humphreys have left to join Burnley and it seems the Turf Moor club are not done raiding Stamford Bridge yet. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – click here and sign up before Friday to make sure you don't miss the first edition. The Athletic report that the Clarets have reached an agreement to sign Lesley Ugochukwu, just two years after the defensive midfielder moved to Chelsea for over £23m. Ugochukwu made just 12 Premier League appearances in his debut season, only three of which were starts, and was loaned out to Southampton last year. The 21-year-old was a shining light in the relegated team but deemed surplus to requirements by Maresca despite having five years left on his contract. And he won't be the only midfielder leaving west London this summer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Everton are close to agreeing a deal to sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The 26-year-old followed Maresca from Leicester to Chelsea last summer but was almost immediately linked with a transfer after struggling for game time at the Bridge. While he helped win the Conference League and Club World Cup, the £30m signing was handed just two Premier League starts and has been the subject of interest from multiple top-flight teams. More Trending Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel recently urged Dewsbury-Hall to find a new team this summer, saying: 'He did well in the Championship with Leicester, but this is Chelsea Football Club. 'He needs to go somewhere he can play and improve. Is he a good player? Yes. Is he a Chelsea player? Definitely not.' While the fee offered by Everton is not known, it is said the deal is not related to their pursuit of Southampton's Tyler Dibling, with David Moyes keen to sign both Englishmen. Sky Sports report that the Saints have rejected the Toffees' second bid for Dibling worth an initial £35m plus £8m. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Ryan Reynolds' record Wrexham transfer suddenly runs into issue as manager speaks out
Wrexham's £7.5m bid for Ipswich winger Nathan Broadhead could be in doubt as the Tractor Boys hesitate due to injuries and transfer interest in other attacking players. Wrexham's club record transfer bid to sign Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town appears to have hit a major snag. Reports emerged last week that the Red Dragons, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, had made an approach for the winger in a deal worth £7.5million. All signs at the time indicated that talks over bringing the 27-year-old Wales international to the Racececourse Ground were progressing well as Wrexham look to bolster their squad ready for life in the Championship. However, the waters have now been muddied after Broadhead was used as a second half substitute in the Tractor Boys' 3-0 pre-season victory against Auxerre on Saturday. Ipswich have yet to give the green light for the move and are claimed to be reluctant at present as another of their wingers, Omari Hutchinson, is being targeted by Brentford. Meanwhile, forward Jaden Philogene suffered an ankle injury during the friendly in France, further reducing manager Kieran McKenna's attacking options. It means Wrexham's hopes of completing a deal for Broadhead are hanging in the balance, despite McKenna acknowledging the player's affection for the Championship new boys. Broadhead hails from Bangor, North Wales, and was part of Wrexham's academy during the early stages of his career before later joining Everton. Speaking after the Auxerre game, McKenna said: "I think it's well-publicised that there's interest there from Wrexham, which is a club that he has an affinity to. But he also has a great affinity to Ipswich and he's been a really, really important player for us. "I think in all these situations as a club, especially moving between divisions, there's always going to be probably more movement and more live situations than you would want in pre-season. "I think when other clubs want our players, it's also something we should be proud of because it's probably not that long ago that there wasn't as much interest in Ipswich players as there is now. "Nathan's an Ipswich player and so long as he's here, he'll be an important player for us. We're, of course, lighter in those areas than we want to be anyway, especially after today." "I think what's important as a club, as a staff, as a group, a squad, with the players, with the supporters, is that we stick together and know that there are going to be situations throughout the month of August." Broadhead joined Ipswich from Everton for £1.5m in January 2023 and played a key role in their back-to-back promotions from League One and the Championship. However, he was restricted to just seven Premier League starts last season as the Tractor Boys were relegated from the top flight. He has bagged 23 goals in 83 appearances for the club in total, but is now in the final year of his contract, with Wrexham reportedly keen on securing his services. Man Utd's transfer activity criticised as Ruben Amorim asked why he didn't sign Aaron Ramsdale
Manchester United and boss Ruben Amorim have come under fire over the club's rather lacklustre transfer activity and for passing up on ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who has joined Newcastle Former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas has slammed Manchester United over their transfer business this summer. The Scotsman believes the likes of new Gunners star Christian Norgaard and Newcastle shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale should've been pursued. Ruben Amorim's side have added two offensive weapons this window so far in the form of £62.5million Matheus Cunha and £71m Bryan Mbeumo. Teenage left-back Diego Leon has been their only other acquisition. A move for a striker seems on the cards with Benjamin Sesko, also a target for the Magpies, being priority No. 1 for the Red Devils. Yet Nicholas, who played over 175 times for Arsenal, has lambasted the club for what he believes to be a sub-par recruitment round, questioning why the likes of Ramsdale were not looked at. "There are a lot of players out there, a whole list who I think would be better than what Manchester United currently have," Nicholas exclaimed to Sky Bet. "I just don't know where they see themselves going." Nicholas went on to raise questions about two players who have made moves this summer for fees that wouldn't break the bank: Norgaard, who arrived at the Emirates in July for £12m, and Ramsdale, who joined Newcastle on loan from Southampton last week. "If I was Manchester United, why didn't they go in for Christian Norgaard? It looks as if they've waited for two high-profile players," continued Nicholas. "But I look at them and I think, why are not adding more players like Norgaard, or players who have played well at Bournemouth and Newcastle, you could disrupt things and see who's interested. "There are so many pillars I just can't understand, the whole lack of authority defensively and what is the current situation with the goalkeeper? "Why don't they go and get Aaron Ramsdale? He's qualified, he knows the circuit, he's English, experienced, and competitive. I know Ramsdale hasn't won too much, but it's not far off what United have won. "I just don't see how they see what an upgrade means. I don't see Manchester United fans showing one bit of excitement as it stands right now, and it's getting close for them to get aggressive towards the club again." Securing the services of a new star between the sticks is supposedly on the Old Trafford agenda this summer after Andre Onana suffered a substandard campaign last time out. Aston Villa No. 1 Emi Martinez looks destined to wave goodbye to Villa Park, but a United loan proposal for the Argentine was reportedly rejected last month. Head coach Amorim was asked about the prospect of signing a new goalkeeper before the window closes, and didn't rule the proposition out. "To hope is a strong word," Amorim responded when asked if he hoped to bring in a new keeper or striker. "We are always looking to improve the team. And we have some characteristics that we would like to have. But again, it depends on the market. It depends on the sales. We'll see."
