KUWAIT CITY, June 29: The Criminal Court sentenced a citizen to life imprisonment for growing marijuana in his apartment in Salwa and drug trafficking. The citizen was caught red-handed in possession of large quantities of narcotics, gold bars and cash believed to be proceeds from trafficking in narcotics. The sentence was issued following extensive investigations conducted by the Drug Control General Department (DCGD) at the Interior Ministry, which monitored the activities of the citizen as per the directive of Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs Major General Hamed Al-Dawas and under the supervision of Director of the department Brigadier General Mohammad Qabazard, and his assistant, Brigadier General Hamad Al-Sabah.
According to a security source, the anti-narcotics officers, after careful monitoring, were able to connect the threads of the case after noticing a significant spread of marijuana in certain areas, particularly in the Capital and Hawally Governorates, and the chalet area. He added that investigations led to the identification of the accused, a Kuwaiti, who was using his apartment for preparing, packaging and storing drugs -- 45 marijuana plants, four kilograms of the substance ready for distribution, 37 kilograms of gold bars and precious metals. The Public Prosecution charged the accused with drug trafficking, possession of narcotic substances for distribution, cultivation of prohibited substances within the residence, and collecting money through an illegal activity.

Egyptian School Guard In Kuwait Sentenced To Death For Raping Egyptian Teacher

KUWAIT CITY, June 30: The Court of Cassation has upheld the death sentence handed down to an Egyptian school guard convicted of kidnapping, assaulting, and unlawfully detaining an Egyptian female teacher inside the art room of a school in the Ahmadi Governorate. The incident occurred when the guard forcibly took the teacher into the art studio, inside school premises, physically restrained her, and taped her mouth shut to prevent her from screaming. He then assaulted her at knifepoint. Both the Criminal Court and the Court of Appeals had previously sentenced the man to death by hanging, based on strong evidence and medical reports that confirmed the assault. In its ruling, the Criminal Court emphasized that the crime took place in what should have been a secure environment, describing the act as a severe breach of trust and a blatant violation of human dignity, warranting the harshest possible punishment.

Kuwait Cybersecurity Expert Warns of Rising Fake Social Media Pages

KUWAIT CITY, June 30: As online scammers continue to impersonate major local companies through fake social media pages, Mohammed Al-Rashidi, Head of the Cybersecurity Committee at the Electronic Media Union, has issued a renewed warning to the public. Al-Rashidi stated that hackers are periodically active, especially during seasonal campaigns, by creating fraudulent accounts that mimic well-known brands to promote fake offers and discounts. 'It is essential to ensure that you are using only official websites and mobile applications,' he stressed. 'Official apps are more secure and far more difficult to impersonate.' Al-Rashidi noted that falling victim to such scams has become increasingly common. 'Once users enter their card information and complete payment through these fake platforms, the theft occurs,' he said. He also pointed out that several websites now exist to verify the safety of links, helping users distinguish between legitimate and suspicious URLs. In a recent incident highlighting the risks, a Kuwaiti resident lost approximately 75 Kuwaiti dinars after falling for a fraudulent advertisement on Facebook. The scam began when the victim clicked on an appealing offer, which redirected him from Facebook to WhatsApp for further details. Believing the offer to be legitimate, he proceeded with the transaction, including entering his bank details and an OTP (one-time password) received via SMS. Moments later, he noticed two unauthorized withdrawals totaling KD 75. A call from his bank followed, alerting him to unusual activity and confirming that a hacker had accessed his account. As a precaution, the bank immediately suspended the account, and the incident was reported to the relevant authorities. Cybersecurity experts continue to urge the public to remain vigilant online, avoid clicking on unknown links, and double-check the legitimacy of offers, especially when they involve financial transactions.
