Geely appoints new chair of European business, replacing founder Eric Li
China's Geely Holding, the main owner of Volvo Cars, Lotus and other car brands, has appointed a new board chair at its key European investment company to replace founder Eric Li, it said late on Thursday.
Danish business veteran Lone Fonss Schroder will take the helm at Geely Sweden Holding's board, which oversees the Chinese group's European businesses, Geely said, without elaborating on the reason for the switch.
She replaces Li, also known as Li Shufu and Geely's top shareholder. Li is also the chair of Volvo Cars.
Last year, Li urged a greater strategic focus at Geely to improve synergies and eliminate internal competition.
So far, that has involved merging teams and restructuring some of its brands such as Zeekr, Geely Auto and Lynk & Co, and moving or axing executives and board members at Swedish brands Volvo Cars and Polestar.
Loss-making Polestar, where Li is majority owner via Geely Sweden and private holdings, will also replace two Geely board members at a June 30 shareholder meeting.
Schroder will step down from the board of Volvo Cars, where she has been a member since 2010, and instead take a seat on the carmaker's nomination committee in charge of board appointments.
Former Volvo Cars CEO Hakan Samuelsson was unexpectedly brought back to run Volvo in March at a turbulent time for the carmaker marked by tariff pressures and market uncertainty.

Xi made the remarks when meeting with Prime Minister of Senegal Ousmane Sonko, who is in China to attend the 2025 Summer Davos Forum, in Beijing. The Chinese president noted that he co-chaired the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye last September, leading China-Africa relations into a new phase of jointly building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era. Xi also said that China and Senegal should firmly support each other's independent and self-reliant development paths, strengthen party-to-party and governance exchanges, and continuously consolidate the foundation of political mutual trust. China and Senegal are partners and good brothers on the road to development and revitalization, Xi said, adding that China is willing to work closely with Senegal to implement the 10 partnership actions between China and Africa, carry out more people's livelihood projects, and encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Senegal's renewable energy, digital infrastructure and other sectors, becoming partners for win-win cooperation. Noting China and Senegal each have their own unique culture, Xi said both countries should take the opportunity of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges to strengthen exchanges in fields such as culture, education, tourism, sports and youth, and bring their peoples closer together, becoming friends of mutual civilizational learning. Both China and Senegal must firmly defend the international system with the United Nations at its core, practice true multilateralism, uphold global governance featuring extensive consultation, joint contributions and shared benefits, and jointly promote world peace, prosperity, and progress, Xi said. After beating Ford Ranger Raptor, double cab will have a hard time holding onto its crown. The BYD Shark this month put its money where its mouth is and dethroned the Ford Ranger Raptor in spectacular fashion as the fastest production bakkie in South Africa. The 321kW/650Nm BYD Shark, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) which showed up for the fight as the most powerful local bakkie, destroyed the Raptor on the drag strip. It clocked a 0 to 100km/h time of 5.66 seconds to better the 6.90 seconds set by the Ford Ranger Raptor two years ago. The 292kW/583Nm Raptor took the crown from the 190kW VW Amarok back in 2021. Compared to the new benchmark, the Amarok's 8.14 seconds seems very modest. The Maxus eTerron 9 is a full electric bakkie that produces 325kW of power and 700Nm of torque.
