A LEGO x Nike Dunk Low Is Coming
Since the beginning of the year, one storyline we've kept an eye on is thenewly-announcedpartnership betweenLEGOandNike. Now, as May comes to a close, the two have presented their first set of products, featuring not only a 1,180-piece setrecreating the Dunk High, but LEGO-themed footwear as well.
We previewed a kid-exclusive LEGO x Nike Air Max Dn in 'Tour Yellow' earlier this week and now the duo has not only announced that pair, but teased aNike Dunk Lowcollaboration as well. A one-image preview of the sneaker sees it forgo its typical overlays in favor of a one-piece upper. However, the overlays do appear with a comic-like style that sees them 'drawn' onto the sneaker, bringing black contrast to its glossy white base. As with the Air Max Dn, LEGO branding hits the tongue tag.
Nike has detailed its release plans for the initial rollout of its new LEGO partnership. The Nike Dunk LEGO set drops at the beginning of July, the LEGO x Nike Air Max Dn will hit shelves to kick off August, and this LEGO x Nike Dunk Low will arrive on shelves on September 1, possibly as an exclusive for kids. Stay tuned for updates, including a complete look at this collaborative colorway, and look out for more LEGO x Nike news as the duo has shared that additional footwear and apparel will be revealed later this year.

Dead & Company kicks off epic Grateful Dead 60th shows in foggy San Francisco
Golden Gate Park became a swirling sea of tie-dye and denim as tens of thousands of Deadheads descended on the Polo Field for the opening night of Dead & Company's three-night residency celebrating the Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary. A thick blanket of fog rolled in overhead — a fitting curtain for a band born in the Bay Area and forever entwined with its weather, ethos and mythology. The show on Friday, Aug. 1 opened on what would have been late guitarist Jerry Garcia's 83rd birthday. His daughter, Trixie Garcia, took the stage to introduce the band, setting the tone for an evening steeped in remembrance but focused squarely on the music. Many fans had traveled from across the country to be there. Around the venue, Dead-themed vendors lined JFK Promenade, with T-shirt stalls, incense sellers and bootleg vinyl dealers doing brisk business, adding to the festival's nostalgic energy. The first set was a slow burn. While it featured crowd-pleasers like 'Feel Like a Stranger,' 'Tennessee Jed,' and 'Althea,' the band struggled to build early momentum — especially with its clunky version of Martha and the Vandellas 'Dancing in the Street' front-loaded in the lineup. It wasn't until the second set that Dead & Company — featuring original members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart alongside John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimentii and Jay Lane — found their groove. Grahame Lesh, son of founding bassist Phil Lesh, who died earlier this year, joined the band for his dad's signature song, 'Box of Rain,' then remained onstage for 'Playing in the Band,' which subtly incorporated elements of Miles Davis' 'All Blues.' From there, the band embraced its improvisational roots, guiding the crowd through a cosmic sequence of 'Eyes of the World,' 'Terrapin Station' and the free-form standards 'Drums' and 'Space.' Guitar phenom and opening act Billy Strings returned for a haunting 'Wharf Rat,' which nodded to 'The Other One' before dissolving into a jubilant 'Not Fade Away.' The night closed with a reverent encore of Bob Dylan's 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door,' sending fans into the fog, smiling and spent. Offstage, San Francisco embraced the celebration. The city wrapped three Muni vehicles in psychedelic prints — dubbed the 'Psychedeli-bus' and 'Trippy Train' — serving both festivalgoers and daily commuters. Eight specially bred 'Grateful Dead' roses were also planted in the park's historic Rose Garden. 'There's no better place to celebrate 60 years of the Grateful Dead than right here in San Francisco,' said Mayor Daniel Lurie earlier in the week. The shows, which continue through Sunday, Aug. 3, are expected to draw 60,000 attendees each night, with general admission tickets starting at $635 and some VIP packages reselling for more than $7,000. Still, for many in attendance, the cost was beside the point. Grateful Dead 60th Anniversary Show – Friday, Aug. 1 Set 1 'Feel Like a Stranger' (Grateful Dead cover) 'Dancing in the Street' (Martha Reeves and the Vandellas cover) 'Tennessee Jed' (Grateful Dead cover) 'Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo' (Grateful Dead cover) 'Big River' (Johnny Cash cover) 'Althea' (Grateful Dead cover) Set 2 Encore 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' (Bob Dylan cover)

Lego's August Releases Are Going Merry
Lego usually has quiet months and big months in terms of releases, but by far and away the two most important times of the year for Lego—and most threatening for your wallet as a Lego fan—are the start of it in January and the height of summer in August. The latter is finally here, and Lego has a lot of options for if you want to beat the heat by staying inside and building bricks. A lot of options. With dozens upon dozens upon dozens of new sets arriving today, it's hard to really break down particular highlights, with almost every major Lego line getting at least a couple of releases, alongside stalwarts like Marvel and Star Wars getting massive new waves. There are even a few entirely new lines making their debut amid the mania too, like the highly anticipated arrival of Lego One Piece, inspired by the Netflix adaptation. Check out all those, and more, in our roundup of the most interesting sets arriving this month! Lego has a few Technic sets out this month, but the standout in our genre-nerd eyes has to be this amazing rover set, inspired by the fabled Lego Space line. The kit comes with a primary moon rover, as well as smaller builds for a mining rover and MAPP rover, and some moon rocks they can collect into a sample container. ($100, available here). The multibuild creator sets are always an opportunity to sneak in some nods to other Lego lines, and August's offerings include a pretty fun new Lego Castle set for any medieval fantasy fans (introducing a new faction) and a cutie-spooky Monster Fighters homage in the Haunted Mansion. But then, consider this! There is also Beautiful Horse. Its beauty is, perhaps, in the eye of the beholder. Inspired by the first season of the Netflix live-action adaptation of the seminal anime and manga, Lego is going all out for the debut of One Piece as a line, right in time for the excitement around season two. From small sets to massive adult-focused kits like the Baratie, there's something for every fan of the show here—but of course the highlight has to be the Going Merry, which comes with the complete (up to this point in the series) Straw Hat crew in one place. Speaking of Netflix shows gearing up for season two! Just in time for the first volume of Wednesday's return to hit the streamer next week, Lego has concocted a buildable black dahlia flower, complete with minidolls of Wednesday and Professor Thornhill. ($28, available here). It's a big Spider-Man wave for Lego Marvel in August, but there are some more Avenging sets around, like sets inspired by Iron Man 2 and Endgame. That doesn't stop the webslinger from taking the prize, though, in the form of a subway train set inspired by the classic one Lego released for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. The Mario line has been on a bit of a karting kick lately, and August is no exception. But not every set is about that kart life: we get a couple of fun Toad buildable sets, including one inspired by Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The first Decepticon to join the Lego Transformers line, Soundwave can transform between robot and cassette player mode and comes with buildable (and similarly transforming) Ravage and Laserbeak minions that can sit in his tape deck. He even plays sounds from a special brick built into his torso unit! ($190, available here) Away from the glow of the movie release, things are back to normal for Lego Minecraft, which offers a special piece of gaming advice this month: maybe don't build your house out of TNT. It's a very big and very expensive month for Star Wars fans with an eclectic mix of sets on offer—from a tease of the next Lego Star Wars animated adventure to a new UCS AT-ST and even some buildable characters in the form of K-2SO and Wicket. This cute gaming model replicates a classic arcade machine, which in itself hides a little gamer cave for the included minifigure to hang out in. ($40, available here). There are still a few more villagers and locales Nintendo and Lego can add to your islands this month, including Blathers' museum! Metal Sonic strikes in the handful of Sonic sets we get this month, which splits Knuckles, Sonic, and Tails across two different villainous battles. Cultural reappraisals aside, one thing that's always been beloved about Batman Forever is its slick Batmobile, which Lego is wonderfully recreating in this new display model—complete with a minifigure Batman inspired by the film's Sonar Batsuit. ($100, available here). Want more io9 news?
