Fidesz MEPs: Patriots for Europe group has achieved a breakthrough
The MEPs told MTI that PfE group's members have for months demanded full transparency in connection with the contracts of NGOs funded by the European Commission.
'European citizens have a right to know where their money ends up and for what purpose,' they said. 'Enough of the deceitful games of the Brussels bureaucrats! We will keep going until it becomes clear to everyone that this is about a group of left-wing activists who pursue political activities with billions of euros in funding from Brussels, often against the interests of taxpayers.'
Fidesz said this went against the principles of democracy and transparency, vowing that the Patriots would 'uncover the truth'. One of the first important steps in this process was the establishment of an investigative working group, Kinga Gal, the head of the Fidesz delegation in the European Parliament and the first deputy leader of the PfE group, said.
They said the PfE group had been the first to highlight through a series of data requests the fact that the EC had signed more than 37,000 contracts with 'so-called civil society groups' worth a total of 2,800 billion forints (EUR 6.9bn) financed from taxpayer money. Many of these organisations, they added, functioned as political activists whose activities included promoting illegal migration and 'forcing green ideology' at the expense of farmers, entrepreneurs and border protection.
But a right-wing majority that came together with the help of the PfE group has voted to set up a working group to investigate 'suspicious NGO contracts', thereby preventing 'Brussels's left wing from sweeping the matter under the rug again', the statement said.
Fidesz said the Patriots group would continue its fight for transparency by demanding an investigation into the Pfizergate case and other 'abuses by Brussels'.

'Brussels is no longer afraid to use increasingly harsh methods in the area, as it is clear that there are attempts orchestrated from abroad to replace the governments in central and eastern European countries with a sovereigntist leadership,' Minister Szijjártó told a joint press conference with Serbian counterpart Marko Djuric in Szeged, in southern Hungary, on Monday. Hungary receives more than a daily 21 million cubic metres of gas through the TurkStream pipeline via Serbia, Minister Szijjártó said, adding that the neighbouring country has started storing around a daily one million cubic metres of gas in Hungarian facilities in preparation for the heating season. Minister Szijjártó said he and Djuric reviewed progress made on the construction of the new oil pipeline whose annual capacity will be five million tonnes, and is set to contribute significantly to the region's energy security. Meanwhile, the minister expressed criticism of the 'Zelensky plan', which he said Brussels wanted to use to support Ukraine 'while ruining the security of central Europe's energy supply and increasing utility prices in the region several times over'. 'This is scandalous and unacceptable, and we'll fight against the Zelensky plan in Brussels until the end,' Minister Szijjártó said. Concerning European Union enlargement, Minister Szijjártó noted that Serbia submitted its bid to join the bloc 16 years ago, and the European Commission has been proposing the opening of new accession chapters for four years now, but member states have yet to approve it. 'We won't approve the start of accession talks with Ukraine, for which we are smeared,' he said. 'Interestingly enough, the member states blocking the talks with Serbia don't have to deal with such things. This is a clear example of double standards.'

Menczer condemns ‘attack' by Ukrainian journalist on government's Vote 2025 survey
Tamás Menczer, Fidesz communications director, has condemned an 'attack' by a Ukrainian journalist on the Hungarian government's Vote 2025 public survey on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. In a post on Facebook, Menczer said Serhiy Sydorenko, '[Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky's favourite journalist', had said that the Vote 2025 initiative had 'nothing to do with the real opinion of the Hungarian people'. He said Sydorenko was in agreement with the opposition Tisza Party's claim that the result of the Vote 2025 survey was 'fake'. 'It's clear as day that Zelensky and Tisza are colluding with each other,' Menczer said. He cited Sydorenko as saying that Zelensky wanted a change of government in Hungary because Tisza and its leader, Peter Magyar, were in favour of giving Ukraine EU membership. He said the Vote 2025 survey was under 'constant attack'. 'Zelensky doesn't like the fact that this is Hungary and not Ukraine, and that he doesn't get to call the shots here,' Menczer said. 'The sovereigntist Orban government and the political community of the Fidesz-Christian Democrats behind it will defend the decision of the Hungarian people against every attack,' he added.

Nézőpont Institute: Fidesz won the debate around the Pride march
The Nézőpont Institute released an analysis on Sunday stating it was the ruling Fidesz party that had won the debate around the Pride march because Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had 'trapped' the opposition, which had been focused solely on organizing the demonstration, but not on its consequences. Nézőpont said surveys showed that the majority of voters agreed with the prime minister and, in the interest of child protection, opposed holding the Pride parade. The share of voters who oppose Pride (51 percent) exceeds the share of those who support Fidesz (44 percent), they added. The statement said that though the opposition had 'brought a lot of people out onto the streets yesterday', that did not automatically mean that they were the majority, and 'in reality, the opposition got stuck in a minority position' on Saturday. 'Orbán's master plan is simple; he wants to win the 2026 election, for which he needs a majority,' the statement said. 'And the day of Pride was another step on the path to the majority.' Nézőpont said that since the opposition had organised Saturday's parade with the support of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and several MEPs, it had also proven the government's point that they represented the interests of Brussels. 'Fidesz now has strong proof that this is a puppet opposition which would form a puppet government if it won an election,' the think-tank said.
