Richard Ashcroft told Noel Gallagher he was the 'only person' who could open for Oasis
Richard Ashcroft told Noel Gallagher he was the "only person" who could open for Oasis on their reunion tour.
Gallagher is reuniting with his estranged brother Liam and their bandmates to get the group back on the road this summer for series of sell-out stadium shows on the 'Oasis Live '25 Tour' and The Verve star Ashcroft will be supporting them on all of their UK and Ireland shows - and he's convinced he was the right choice because of his long history with Oasis.
In an interview on 'The Chris Moyles Show' on Radio X, Ashcroft explained: "I see it as I've got a very important part to play in this.
"You know, back in the day Oasis supported The Verve and then it flipped around and we supported Oasis at Earls Court, then I as a solo artist have played with Oasis.
"I said to Noel: 'You know, I think I'm the only person who could go in this slot. Especially for a huge outdoor show, because everyone wants your lot. And unless you're coming with something, unless you've got something to offer, I don't know what's gonna happen'."
Oasis previously opened for The Verve back in 1993 before the release of their 1994 debut album 'Definitely Maybe' and Ashcroft's band went on to support the brothers' group at The Bataclan venue in Paris, France in 1995.
Ashcroft went on to perform with Oasis at gigs in Scotland in 1995 and he also sang on their track 'All Around The World' which featured on the 1997 record 'Be Here Now'.
He added: "I think it's great that we're still around. I've been there almost in that whole story together with them. Right from the day one.
"Before their album came out, first album [1994's 'Definitely Maybe'], seen that. They were kind of like mega successful before I was. They were on [TV show] 'Top Of The Pops'. By the time it was my turn, it was like they'd been all over it.
"They sold millions of albums, blah, blah, blah, but the rarity of that, that you could have two bands, both in transits off playing to 300 people.
"Both saying: 'We're gonna do this.' 'No, no we're gonna do that'. And for that to happen is incredible."
Cast will also be opening for the band on the 'Oasis Live '25 Tour', which kicks off in Cardiff, Wales on July 4.

It didn't work for his band because of the hip-hop element because of Shaun. 'I took the music off and started from the ground up. At first, my version was hip-hop. We were gonna do Later… With Jools Holland and Noel went, 'There's only drums on this, what the f*** am I supposed to play?' I wrote the music and it worked. It's heavy, it's mad, it's crazy. Noel's part is beautiful when it drops.' Zak is still reeling that he isn't going to be behind the kit for Oasis' first tour in 16 years. He said: 'We had this tune before that. Noel called me on my birthday to tell me I wasn't in [Oasis]. He didn't know it was my birthday though! I would like to be in it, because they're my favourite group of my generation. The thing about groups that you love – like The Who or Oasis – is that it's not a job. It's about protecting music so that no **** does it wrong, because for so many people it's a job and they don't really care. 'When it's your favourite band, you pick up the phone and you're like, 'F****** hell!' It's completely different to everything else. I f****** love Oasis. I always did. I always had this thing with Liam [Gallagher] for years from the mid-90s where I'd go, 'Alright Daffers? Happy Mondays star Bez 'rinsing' the Oasis reunion tour with official after party DJ sets
Happy Mondays star Bez is the official DJ for the Manchester Oasis Live '25 Tour after parties. The king of the maracas will be entertaining fans of the legendary Britpop band following their gigs at Heaton Park this summer, at New Century, and he's admitted it's a nice "little earner". The Madchester legend told the Daily Star: 'I've got a little earner out of Oasis going on tour. I'm rinsing it it's true. I'm DJ-ing at the after shows in Manchester if anybody wants to go, Nobody's asked me to do the other ones yet but I can do.' Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder recalled a gross prank the post-punk dance group and Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher carried out back in the day when Noel worked as a roadie for iconic Madchester group Inspiral Carpets - a role he took on in 1990 after a failed audition to be their lead singer. Shaun recounted: "When Noel was working for Inspiral Carpets we used to send stuff, it wasn't emails it was either telexes or letters, and we used to send s*** to Inspirals. They would send s*** back to us. But that was Noel who was sending it all cos he worked for them.' Bez remembers attending Oasis' first ever show at a "scabby little club" in Manchester. He shared: 'I was at their very first gig they played with Noel at Middleton. Every gig were scabby little clubs. (Label boss) Alan McGee came up with Jeff Barrett (colleague) to Manchester and were looking for Manchester bands to sign.' Bez says a lot of Mancunians owe Oasis for bagging record deals. The potty-mouth star said: 'Every **** we knew was signed at one point. Even me next door neighbour f***** got a record deal cos of them!' The Oasis Live '25 Tour - Oasis' first tour in 16 years - kicks off on July 4 in Cardiff. The Supersonic group will play five shows at Heaton Park between July 11 and 20.

How Gallagher brothers' mother 'instigated' end of feud
Noel and Liam Gallagher's mother was the 'instigator' of their reconciliation. The brothers hadn't spoken since Oasis split following a series of rows in 2009 but they are currently preparing for their reunion tour, and though Peggy Gallagher urged them to put their differences aside, she insisted she couldn't have made them do anything they didn't want to do. 'I was the instigator, yes. But sure, wasn't it always going to happen at some time or other?' she told Ireland's Mail on Sunday newspaper. 'It was their choice, of course. 'Look, you can't force them to do things they don't want to do. 'You just have to say, 'Get on with it' and I said that.' The 82-year-old matriarch is relieved her warring sons have finally made up. 'It's great, because nobody wants their kids falling out, do they?' she said. Peggy is looking forward to seeing Noel and Liam back on stage with Oasis over the summer. But she admitted: 'I'll be glad when it's all just over because it makes me get too stressed.' The Irishwoman is hoping to travel to her homeland to see Oasis perform in Croke Park, but she has just had a knee replacement operation so is currently unsure as to whether she will be fit enough to make the journey from her home in Manchester. 'I'm hoping to get to the Oasis concert in Dublin in August if I can hobble around,' she said. 'That's my plan anyway... it will be great.' 'I know the Irish fans are thrilled about it. There's great excitement in Ireland about the reunion tour and it will be lovely to see family there, also my sister Kathleen. I am really looking forward to the Dublin one.' Peggy — who also plans to see her sons at their homecoming shows in Manchester — knows the road to recovery will be long. 'It's still sore,' she said. 'I'm sick of bloody exercising it, up and down the stairs, they say it takes anything up to nine months to be right again... Still, we have to get there, we have to get on with it.'
