Vienna [Austria], July 9 (ANI): India aims to increase its hydrocarbons exploration acreage to 0.5 million sq km by 2025 and 1.0 million sq km by 2030, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Puri said.
With 2.5 lakh sq km open for exploration under OALP Round-10, and being close to discovering a Guyana-scale oilfield in the Andaman Sea, India is in the midst of one of the most ambitious plans to enhance the efforts to drill for more and further enhance hydrocarbons exploration in the country, said the Minister at 9th OPEC International Seminar in Vienna.
India is making significant efforts to increase its traditional fossil-based energy production, and the latest push is to explore the Andaman region.
India plans to explore and drill for hydrocarbons with renewed momentum by exploring 2.5 lakh sq km under OALP-Round 10.
The minister interacted on 'Oil Markets: Energy Security, Growth and Prosperity' with an audience of leaders, captains and professionals of global energy sector at the Seminar.
This ambition to double exploration acreage, according to the Minister, is supported by a series of policy reforms including shifting from a Production Sharing Contract regime to a Revenue Sharing Model under HELP, and amendments to ORD Act 1948 to provide a robust framework for managing leases, improving safety, enabling dispute resolution, and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources in hydrocarbon projects.
In addition, the government is reducing 'No-Go' areas by 99 per cent, and in the process freeing up over 1 million sqkm for exploration and production (E&P), and significant investments in basin data acquisition through national projects such as the National Seismic Program (NSP), Andaman Offshore Project, Mission Anveshan, and the Extended Continental Shelf Survey.
India is the world's third-largest energy consumer with a demand of about 5.4 million barrels of oil per day.
'India's energy strategy is rooted in pragmatism, resilience, and fairness. India is both a structural growth engine and a long-term stabilizer of global oil markets,' the minister said.
At the Seminar, the minister said India will contribute 25 per cent of the incremental global energy demand growth in future.
'We are navigating today's volatile global energy landscape through a multi-dimensional approach that includes diversifying our crude import sources from 27 to 40 countries now, enhancing domestic production, developing alternative fuel sources, transition towards gas based economy and aiming to become a global refining hub by increasing our refining capacity to 310 MMTPA by 2028 and augmenting petrochemical capacity to be a USD 300 billion industry by 2030,' the minister said.
Even as the world was dealing with geopolitical difficulties, Puri said India successfully navigated the trilemma of energy availability, affordability, and sustainability; and was the only major economy in the world to reduce fuel prices even as oil prices skyrocketed globally.
He apprised the Seminar that India aims to achieve energy independence by 2047 and reach Net Zero emissions by 2070.
He also highlighted India's green energy transition, referring to biofuels.
India launched the Global Biofuels Alliance which has over 29 countries and 14 international organisations, working together to scale up sustainable biofuels.
Domestically, India is accelerating the use of ethanol, CBG, biodiesel and SAF as part of its decarbonization roadmap, the minister added.
India today imports 80 per cent of its oil and 50 per cent of its natural gas needs. India is now importing oil and gas from as many countries as possible to meet its demand. (ANI)

Mann again targets PM Modi's foreign visits, BJP hits back

A day after the external affairs ministry disapproved Bhagwant Mann's criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign visits, the chief minister on Friday again raked up the issue in the state assembly and asked whether he did not have a right to question about a foreign policy. A day after the external affairs ministry disapproved Bhagwant Mann's criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign visits, the chief minister on Friday again raked up the issue in the state assembly and asked whether he did not have a right to question about a foreign policy. The CM, later also took a jibe at Union home minister Amit Shah, saying that he was 'ousted' from Gujarat. Participating in a debate over the resolution against the deployment of CISF personnel at the Bhakra-Nangal project on the second day of the assembly session here, Mann again asserted that the PM has no time to address the 'concerns of 140 crore Indians' but has time to tour abroad, triggering sharp reactions from BJP's Punjab unit chief Sunil Jakhar. 'The MEA has reacted. Don't we have a right to ask the PM about foreign policy? Do the countries which he visits support our nation afterwards? When our relation with Pakistan turned bad, did any country stand by us,' he asked. On Thursday, Mann had criticised Modi for celebrating a foreign honour from a country with a population of just 10,000 while 'neglecting' the nation's pressing issues. The MEA without naming Mann, said the government of India 'disassociates' itself from the 'unwarranted' comments made by a 'high state authority' that undermined India's ties with friendly countries. Later, after the day's session was adjourned, Mann also took a jibe at home minister Amit Shah, calling him a 'fugitive', who was ousted from Gujarat. 'If 'tadipaar' becomes the home minister, then what can be expected,' Mann remarked, kicking up a row with Union minister of state for railways Ravneet Singh Bittu slamming Punjab CM over 'objectionable and irresponsible' remarks. Hitting back, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar condemned the derogatory remarks made against the PM and home minister and said the CM has forgotten all sense of decorum. 'Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ji, who knows better than you that when a person's shadow grows larger than their stature, it means the sun is about to set, and when someone's tongue outgrows their worth, it signifies the beginning of their downfall,' Jakhar wrote in a post on X. The state BJP president emphasised that Punjab is a sacred land with a tradition of respectful discourse, which the chief minister has disregarded. Union minister of state for railways Ravneet Singh Bittu also slammed 'objectionable and irresponsible' remarks against Shah. 'Such language (against Union home minister) is not only offensive but also undermines the dignity of the chief minister's office,' Bittu said. He accused the Punjab CM of repeatedly breaching political decorum and failing to uphold civility in public life. 'Mann lacks the basic courtesy expected of a leader. His language is not just crude but shows complete disregard for democratic values,' he said, adding, 'It is unfortunate that the chief minister mocks the country's diplomatic efforts without even understanding their importance. These visits are crucial for trade, technology, and strategic partnerships. 'Such occasions should be viewed as national achievements, not as fodder for political sarcasm.'

Shah directs to increase capacity of STP for Yamuna to 1500 MGD by 2028

New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah today chaired a high-level review meeting on Yamuna rejuvenation here today and directed to increase the capacity of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for Yamuna to 1500 MGD by 2028. The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Manohar Lal, CR Patil, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Home Secretary, Secretaries and senior officials. Addressing the meeting, Shah said that the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) should work in action mode to control water pollution. He said that the Delhi government should take continuous and effective steps to stop the increasing pollution from industrial units, a Home Ministry statement said. Shah said that apart from Delhi, chemicals are also coming into the Yamuna River through waste from other states, so all these states should work together to clean the river. The Home Minister emphasised on working on an action mode to improve the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) in the main drains of Najafgarh and Shahdara. He also stressed on conducting a drone survey of Delhi's two main drains, Najafgarh and Shahdara drains. He said that apart from the efforts being made by the Delhi government to clean the rivers, there is a need to increase the budget of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). Shah laid special emphasis on cleaning the Yamuna as well as increasing the capacity of STPs. He directed to increase the STP capacity to 1500 MGD by 2028. He said that all three states, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, should make efforts for Yamuna's rejuvenation and there should be regularity and transparency in testing of the water flowing out of their STPs. Moreover, he also emphasized on third party quality testing of STP outflow. There are many reservoirs in Delhi in which the Delhi government should make arrangements to collect rainwater. Developing these reservoirs will also promote tourism," Shah said. He said that the Delhi government should work in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to manage the waste produced by dairies and cow shelters and also stressed on managing the unauthorized dairies in the national capital. Laying special emphasis on increasing the e-flow in Yamuna, Shah said that there is a need to talk to the Uttar Pradesh government on this issue and find a solution so that the flow of Yamuna can be improved at the time of its entry into Delhi. He said that the treated water of Okhla STP should be released downstream of Yamuna which will help in improving the quality of the river water. The Minister said that a detailed survey should be conducted regarding water supply in Delhi, so that it can be ascertained how much water is required to be supplied for catering one and all living in Delhi. Uncontrolled water extraction through borewells is a big problem in Delhi, on which the Delhi Jal Board needs to work by making an action plan. He said that these borewells should be regularized in a phased manner. UNI RBE GNK
