Coronation Street's Mick Michaelis star spotted in another TV show after 'real accent' confusion
Fans of the ITV soap will know that the actor arrived on the cobbles earlier this year as Mick Michaelis. The controversial character followed his wife, Lou, onto the street having been confirmed as the show's new "nightmare neighbours".
In February, they moved into Mawdsley Street at the back of Chesney and Gemma Winter-Brown's house, which is the first time ever Corrie have extended the serial drama across the ginnel in a history-making move.
They have been making their presence felt in Weatherfield since, but none more so than this week when Mick spiralled and lashed out at not just Lou in a horror domestic abuse attack, but also PC Craig Tinker as he tried to reprimand him for drink driving.
But fans have realised that they're not just seeing Mick in Corrie, as Joe currently has another role in the new BBC drama, The Bombing of Pan Am 103, which follows the untold story of the Scots-US investigation into the attack and the devastating effect it had on the small town of Lockerbie.
The six-part series is based on the true story of the bombing of a passenger flight over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988 and the quest to bring its perpetrators to justice. The series begins on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on Sunday, May 18, with new episodes premiering at 9pm every Sunday and Monday for three weeks.
Earlier this month, alongside a teaser for the series, Joe shared on Instagram: "Lots to look forward to in May. 'The Bombing of Pan Am 103' starts May 18th. Special job with a wonderful cast and crew."
Now, fans have put two and two together. Taking to a Corrie fan Facebook group, one shared a picture of Joe in the BBC drama and said: "I'm streaming this on iPlayer and I'm sure this is Mick. In this he's putting on an American accent as a concerned relative."
Elsewhere, @bradley915 asked: "#corrie Is "Mick" now on the Pan Am 103 thing now on BBC?" to which a fellow watcher replied: "Yep!"
And speaking of accents, Joe's own caused some surprise recently. The MEN shared last week how Corrie had taken to Instagram with a video in which they questioned Joe, Farrel Hegarty (Lou) and Jacob Roberts (Kit), as well as the trio of actors playing their young characters, on events of 2007, to coincide with their special flashback episode.
Alongside the video, a caption read: "How well do you remember 2007?! Join us in our throwback quiz ahead of tomorrow night's special 2007 flashback episode! Catch all the drama on ITV1 at 8pm or stream early on ITVX at 7am. (Link in bio!)."
But Corrie fans couldn't help but be taken aback by Mick's 'real voice' as Joe is very different to his on-screen alter-ego. @tracy.c70 said: "Did not expect Mick to have the accent that he does." @lovefromnav2005 commented: "Omg micks voice is so different."
@suewalm wrote: "Omg Mick sounds so different so nice not like his character as I think he's proper scary." @sergiaspl added: "Joe Layton's performance has been mesmerising during this storyline and to hear how he sounds off screen, is wild."

Nelly Attacks Kamala Harris Supporters After Fans Blast Him For Trump Inauguration Support
Nelly and his wife Ashanti are promoting a new unscripted reality television series aimed at peeling back the layers of the pair's relationships and musical careers, along with the requisite press runs. Some fans online have yet to forgive Nelly for appearing onstage during President Donald Trump's inauguration celebration, prompting the St. Louis star to call out supporters of former Vice President Kamala Harris and more. The Shade Room shared a clip of Nelly sitting with Hot 97's Ebro Darden doing promo with Ashanti for the pair's Peacock series, Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together. The clip shows the 'Hot In Herre' artist discussing how he has never endorsed any presidential candidate and pushing back against the assertion that he's a supporter of Trump after the performance. As it often happens with The Shade Room, fans began hurling barbs in Nelly's direction, which got his attention via a lengthy response in where he defends his actions, blasts Kamala Harris, criticized her intteracial marriage, and stood up for Snoop Dogg, who also caught the ire of fans for assumed support of President Trump. From The Shade Room: ''ll put whatever up me and snoop do more in the community and have been doing for over 20 + years against any of you that are just on here talking trash and have no stats to back up what you mean to the community .. from the black families that we employ to the black children that we help every day and all year through our nonprofits, whether we're sending kids to schools on scholarships to HBCU or helping young black boys in la 'gang central ' with his junior football programs which many players have went on to go to the NFL and live their dreams, .. and on top of that we are 'Black Men' married to beautiful Black women with black children .. should be inspiring to most but that some of y'all have a problem with because the 'prosecutor who has probably locked up more black men that we've helped woman of color with the white husband and white kids Did not win the election.. again I reiterate, I did not campaign for anyone. I'm a military baby with a grand uncle who is a Tuskegee airmen and red tail that was very prideful for his country I told you it's my respect for the office meaning any president that calls upon Nelly it would be a honor.. nothing to do with money. Sean 'Diddy' Combs Acquitted Of Sex Trafficking But Guilty Of Transportation For Prostitution
Almost two months and 34 witnesses later, and the jury in the trial of Sean 'Diddy' Combs has reached a verdict: the musician was acquitted on all charges but the jury returned a guilty verdict on two counts, both of transportation to engage in prostitution relating to Cassie Ventura and an anonymous victim known only as 'Jane'. Per the BBC, the jury deliberated for 13 hours over three days to come to a unanimous decision on the charges against Combs. The trial has been running in New York since May. Much of that court time focused on the prosecution's case. While the verdict isn't a full acquittal, per several outlets, Combs' relief as the charges were read out was palpable. 'Combs just left the courtroom, and before he did, he got on his knees, put his face into his chair and appeared to be praying. He was shaking,' wrote the BBC. 'He got up, looked toward his family, and started clapping loudly as his family and supporters joined in, cheering in the overflow room too.' Per the New York Times, before the verdict was read, Combs walked into the courtroom and mouthed 'We got this' to his family. He was reading a printout of Psalm 11. Combs faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence on each of the two prostitution counts, which Judge Arun Subramanian will determine the sentencing of at a later date. The acquittals on the sex trafficking counts mean he will avoid a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence. He could have faced life in prison if he were convicted on sex trafficking or racketeering conspiracy. The 12-person jury was comprised of eight men and four women, ranging in age from 30 to 74. This is an ongoing story and this piece will be updated. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. Bob Vylan Frontman Speaks Out After Band Is Dropped From Manchester Music Festival
The punk rap duo Bob Vylan have spoken out after it was reported that they had been dropped from a music festival in Manchester. Over the weekend, the band caused controversy when they led the crowd at their Glastonbury set in a chant of 'death to the IDF', in reference to Israel's army. After facing condemnation from UK prime minister Sir Keir Starmer, the BBC – which broadcast the set live and uncensored on its iPlayer service – and Glastonbury's organisers, it was revealed that a criminal investigation was underway following sets by both Bob Vylan and fellow performers Kneecap. On Wednesday, BBC News reported that, in the wake of the controversy, Bob Vylan had been dropped from the line-ups of Radar Festival in Manchester, and Kave Fest in France. Reacting to the news, frontman Bobby Vylan wrote on Instagram: 'Silence is not an option. We will be fine, the people of Palestine are hurting.' 'Manchester we will be back,' he then vowed. Bobby previously addressed the Glastonbury furore in an Instagram post captioned: 'I said what I said.' He and bandmate Bobbie Vylan then released a joint statement which read: 'We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people. We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine. A machine whose own soldiers were told to use 'unnecessary lethal force' against innocent civilians waiting for aid. A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza.' Referring to the activist group Palestine Action and fellow Glastonbury performers Kneecap, the duo continued: 'We, like those in the spotlight before us, are not the story. We are a distraction from the story. And whatever sanctions we receive will be a distraction. 'The government doesn't want us to ask why they remain silent in the face of this atrocity. To ask why they aren't doing more to stop the killing. To feed the starving. The more they talk about Bob Vylan, the less they spend answering for their criminal inaction. 'We are being targeted for speaking up. We are not the first. We will not be the last. And if you care for the sanctity of human life and freedom of speech, we urge you to speak up, too.' Avon and Somerset Police said on Tuesday: 'Video footage and audio from Bob Vylan and Kneecap's performances at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday has been reviewed. 'Following the completion of that assessment process we have decided further enquiries are required and a criminal investigation is now being undertaken. A senior detective has been appointed to lead this investigation.'
