Avangaad has consistently demonstrated its operational excellence and reliability in managing and operating critical marine assets for Northport.
KUALA LUMPUR: Avangaad Bhd, a Bursa Malaysia main market-listed marine transportation and offshore storage specialist, and Libra Perfex Precision Sdn Bhd secured a new contract from Northport (Malaysia) Bhd for RM66.8 million.
Extending beyond its stable tenure-based portfolio, Avangaad is actively advancing growth avenues in the non-oil and gas (O&G) segments.
These pivotal new contracts validate Avangaad's continued success in strengthening its port and tugboat operations portfolio.
Further, Avangaad continues to build on its strong business momentum with Northport, a long-standing client since 2013.
Avangaad's three existing 40-tonne Z-Peller harbour tugboats have been awarded a further two-year service extension, totalling an estimated RM18.9 million, reflecting Northport's continued confidence in Avangaad's operational and proven track record in port support services.
In addition to the contract extensions, Avangaad has secured a new 5-year contract valued at RM47.9 million to provide daily charter services for 3 units of 50-ton Bollard Pull Z-Peller harbour tugboats, following its successful tender bid for the tugboat services.
The contract includes an optional 5-year extension, potentially securing up to a decade of recurring revenue and showcasing Avangaad's long-term earnings visibility and order book strength.
These awarded contracts mark Northport's continued trust in Avangaad for the 12th consecutive year.
As a long-standing strategic partner to one of Malaysia's leading ports, Avangaad has consistently demonstrated its operational excellence and reliability in managing and operating critical marine assets for Northport.
Avangaad executive director Datuk Wira Mubarak Hussain Akhtar Husin said these contract awards are a clear and robust endorsement of Avangaad's proven capability in delivering consistently high standards of service and reliability in marine operations.
'While we continue to maintain a presence in offshore storage, the newly secured contracts emphasise our expansion into non-O&G sectors.
'More importantly, they reiterate our potential to penetrate broader market segments and grow our base of recurring income.
'Our position continues to be validated as Malaysia's only maritime player offering four integrated lines of maritime services. As a diversified solutions provider, we are committed to serving our clients, whom we view as long-term partners, as we scale new heights.
'Capitalising on enhanced governance across Avangaad Group, we remain committed to deepening our sustainability focus. Our proven service offerings underpin a well-diversified portfolio, positioning us to capitalise on future growth opportunities across both the oil and gas (O&G) and non-O&G sectors,' he said in a statement.
Under these comprehensive contracts, Avangaad will provide fully manned tugboats with experienced, licensed Malaysian crews, a hallmark of its commitment to local talent development and operational safety.
The scope encompasses essential daily charter services, rigorous vessel maintenance, advanced firefighting capabilities, and guaranteed round-the-clock operational availability, all of which are crucial for the efficient and safe conduct of port operations in Northport, Port Klang.
These new and extended contracts come on the heels of Avangaad's successful upliftment from PN17 status, showcasing the company's sustained turnaround and strong market confidence.
Avangaad remains focused on maintaining high vessel utilisation rates, generating robust cash flow, and implementing ongoing operational improvements, particularly within its expanding tugboat operations.
The successful award of new long-term contracts reaffirms Avangaad's proven capabilities and growth potential in the Malaysian maritime sector.

Ministry assures traders will not exploit Sara cash aid

SETIA ALAM: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has assured that traders will not exploit the RM100 cash aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme by raising prices of essential goods. Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said continuous monitoring and enforcement operations will be carried out to prevent profiteering and any form of abuse. "Enforcement is an ongoing effort, but we will intensify it whenever there is a risk of misuse. "Whenever there is a new announcement such as on the Sales and Services Tax, we immediately launch enforcement operations due to concerns about price hikes. "Hopefully, this will not happen with Sara," she said after officiating the closing ceremony of the TikTok Shop Summit 2025 at Setia City Convention Centre today. She also said the one-off RM100 Sara aid is strictly for essential items and can only be used at 4,100 registered outlets nationwide using the recipient's identification card. Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced several key initiatives, including the Sara cash aid, the postponement of toll rate hikes for 10 highways, and a lower subsidised RON95 petrol price at RM1.99 per litre.

Sejahtera Madani initiative launched, nearly RM120m raised to end poverty

Published on: Thursday, July 24, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 24, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: Pic by Bernama PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysia Madani People's Wellbeing Initiative (Sejahtera Madani), launched today to end poverty, has successfully raised nearly RM120 million, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ( pic ) announced. Speaking at the launch, Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the initiative had received overwhelming support from the private sector, surpassing its initial fundraising target of RM50 million. 'I said if Sejahtera Madani could raise RM50 million, that would already be a success, and the government could top it up a bit, but today the response has not just doubled, it's gone far beyond that. 'The initiative has now raised nearly RM120 million. This is a meaningful project, and we want to drive this nation to become strong and great,' he said. Present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. Anwar also reiterated his Madani Government's commitment to ending hardcore poverty in Malaysia through coordinated efforts and strategic approaches. 'My target, together with the Cabinet, is to end hardcore poverty. Based on data from 2023 to 2024, we've made significant progress. Even though new cases may emerge, the overall numbers are far lower than before,' he said. The Prime Minister also praised the commitment of all stakeholders, particularly the private sector and Islamic religious councils, for working alongside the government to tackle one of the country's most persistent issues. Sejahtera Madani is a national initiative aimed at assisting poor and hardcore poor households registered under the National Poverty Database or the eKasih system. Coordinated by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM), the initiative consolidates various aid interventions across ministries, agencies, and private entities for a focused and integrated poverty eradication strategy. In a statement issued at the launch, ICU JPM described Sejahtera Madani as being anchored on a "whole-of-nation approach," enhanced with high-impact and sustainable programs targeting both heads of households and household members under the eKasih system. The initiative focuses on four key areas, namely income generation, education, housing, and social welfare. The government is targeting RM100 million in corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions for Sejahtera Madani, all of which will be channelled to the People's Wellbeing Fund managed by ICU JPM. 'All CSR contributions under this initiative qualify for income tax deductions under Subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967,' the statement read. As of July 15, a total of 306,403 heads of households are registered in the eKasih database nationwide, comprising 1,017 classified as hardcore poor and 305,386 as poor. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? MyCIEDS system enhances transparency in Malaysia import-export docs

JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian Customs Import and Export Supporting Document System (MyCIEDS) is set to improve transparency and prevent data leaks in import-export documentation. The system also aims to uphold the integrity of customs officers and forwarding agents. Customs deputy director-general Norlela Ismail explained that once documents are uploaded, officers process them based solely on the displayed data. 'We're seeing results beyond our initial targets. During our engagements with agents, the feedback has been very positive,' she said after launching the system for the Southern Zone. Customs director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin highlighted that MyCIEDS facilitates document sharing between customs officers and forwarding agents for each Customs Form submitted. She noted that the system is crucial for Malaysia's trade governance and competitiveness. 'By moving to paperless, the system expedites processes, increases government revenue, and delivers a stronger economic impact,' she said. Since its phased rollout in January, over 1,350 companies and agents nationwide have registered as MyCIEDS users. - Bernama
