‘Step Brothers' Created the Catalina Wine Mixer. Catalina Island Made It Real.
The 22-year-olds stepped off their ferry in matching blue button-down shirts and argyle sweater vests, dressed to recreate the movie's memorable poster of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who star in the film as two middle-aged men that begrudgingly become family when their parents remarry.
The mixer is the emotional finale of the film, where the bickering step brothers finally come together to save the day after a bad Billy Joel cover band nearly ruins the event.
'This has been a dream since watching 'Step Brothers,'' Ms. Brister said. 'It's our favorite movie, we watch it all the time.'
The couple traveled from Granite Bay, Calif., to attend the 10th year of the Catalina Wine Mixer, an event that was inspired by its fictional counterpart in the film, and which the Catalina Island Company decided to make real in 2015. The group owns about 11 percent of the island and is behind various efforts to attract visitors.

David Geffen's Estranged Husband, Donovan Michaels, Sues Mogul for Breach of Contract
David Geffen's divorce drama has made its way into the public eye after his estranged husband, Donovan Michaels, sued the entertainment mogul for breach of contract. The suit, which was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, accuses Geffen, 82, of exploiting a 'vulnerable, marginalized young gay Black man' as a 'wealthy, powerful white gay billionaire who believed himself untouchable.' More from The Hollywood Reporter David Geffen Files for Divorce From Donovan Michaels Eddie Rosenblatt, Veteran Geffen Records Executive, Dies at 89 Children of Robbie Robertson Take His Widow to Court Over Claims to His Estate The Hollywood Reporter reported in May that Geffen filed for divorce from Michaels, 32, after less than two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. The mogul tied the knot with Michaels, a former go-go dancer whose real name is David Armstrong, in 2023 in a private Beverly Hills ceremony. While the pair kept their relationship private, details surrounding their relationship have now been revealed in Michaels' suit. The complaint states that the pair met on the dating website, It also accuses Geffen of paying Michaels $10,000 for sex the night that they met, and, 'like the plot of the movie Trading Places, began treating Michaels as a living social experiment — a trophy to show off to his wealthy friends, under the guise of benevolence.' According to the suit, Geffen knew about Michaels' troubled past — as he grew up in the foster care system — but 'rather than respond with empathy or offer genuine support, Geffen saw Michaels as an object of exploitation.' Over time, the duo's paid sexual relationship developed into a partnership, the lawsuit states, as 'Geffen told Michaels he loved him and the two would treat one another as life partners, share all assets equally, and Geffen would support Michaels financially for life. Michaels gave up his dreams — his modeling career, his independence — to dedicate himself fully to this promise.' Geffen and Michaels got married in 2023 with no prenup, according to the complaint, but 'what Michaels did not know at the time was that this was nothing more than a transaction to Geffen.' Throughout their marriage, the mogul allegedly 'critiqued every aspect of Michaels' appearance and carefully controlled Michaels with respect to all aspects of his body hygiene,' requiring him to get 'painful laser treatments and dental treatments.' The suit also states that Michaels was met with 'back-handed insults and put-downs' about his 'past and lack of sophistication.' In the complaint, Geffen is also accused of demeaning 'sexual access at will, including acts Michaels found degrading.' He also allegedly supplied Michaels with drugs and alcohol as 'tools of coercion — lowering his resistance and increasing his dependency.' This led Michaels to seek treatment after suffering from addiction. Following treatment, Michaels claims he tried to make amends with Geffen, but that he 'did not want a healthier Michaels. He wanted control and submission. He wanted to be the savior, the white knight, and the 'top.'' After Geffen filed for divorce in April 2025, the suit alleges Geffen 'almost immediately breached the oral agreements by denying Michaels full financial support.' A few months later, in June 2025, the lawsuit states that 'while Geffen was hosting his super-wealthy celebrity friends on his superyacht in Venice, Italy, preparing to attend the Bezos [Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez] wedding, he demanded that Michaels immediately vacate the New York residence, which would effectively render Michaels homeless.' 'In addition to evicting Michaels, Geffen also cut him off from his status quo financial support, making it impossible for Michaels to secure an appropriate living situation and provide for his daily necessities,' according to the complaint. THR reached out to Geffen's attorney for comment. Geffen, who has a net worth over $9.1 billion, per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, landed at No. 371 on the list of the world's wealthiest people as of July 22. The mogul also co-founded the label Asylum Records in 1971 before later founding Geffen Records and DGC Records. His motion picture company, Geffen Pictures, also produced a handful of films and TV shows, including Personal Best, Beetlejuice, Interview with the Vampire and Little Shop of Horrors. Then in 1994, he co-founded DreamWorks SKG with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, before DreamWorks Animation spun off to form a publicly traded company a decade later. Variety's senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay wrote on X that the film was 'an absolute riot,' adding that she 'laughed' out loud and 'cried' during the tender family moments. 'It's such a great feel-good film,' she wrote. 'Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis deliver hilarity and emotion in this funtastic sequel. I never knew I needed this film! Oh and Manny Jacinto, I love him.' Entertainment journalist Brandon Davis echoed the praise, writing on X that he was 'howling' with laughter during Tuesday night's premiere screening. 'Jamie Lee Curtis is having the time of her life and it's a blast to watch,' Davis wrote. 'It's silly and sometimes confusing but hilarious throughout, even touching at times. Absolutely some of the most fun I've had watching a movie this year.' 'Freakier Friday' takes place years after the original. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As she attempts to navigate the struggles of merging her two families, Anna finds herself, her mom Tess, her daughter and her stepdaughter in a four-way body swap. What starts as pure chaos soon helps them find some understanding amid the complicated family transition. Original stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis return as the leading mother-daughter duo. Other cast members include Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. While speaking to Variety at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, Curtis said she has learned a lot from Lohan since returning for the Disney sequel. 'She has taught me so much,' Curtis said. 'She has her team, where her two people would be standing on either side of a camera holding a big light. It's Lindsay lighting — that would have been good branding — they hold lights so that we look better. So, I've learned a lot from her already. We had a good time. We love each other.' The original 2003 'Freaky Friday,' based on Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel, follows widowed mother Tess and her teenage daughter Anna. During an impasse in their relationship, they find a magic fortune cookie that causes them to swap bodies, resulting in a deeper familiarity between them. Jason Momoa Reacted To His 16-Year-Old Son Being Cast As Zendaya And Timothée Chalamet's Child In 'Dune: Part Three' — And Denied That He Gave Him Any 'Help'
Last month, you may have seen some chatter around the casting of the two young actors playing Leto II and Ghanima, the twin children of Paul Atreides and Chani, in the upcoming Dune: Part Three. © Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection As far as we know, Dune: Part Three will follow the events of Frank Herbert's second Dune novel, Dune: Messiah. For context, Paul and Chani are portrayed by Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in Denis Villeneuve's film adaptations. And at the time of the casting reveal, there was much praise for the fact that the filmmaker did a damn-good job of finding two teens who look like they could actually be Timmy and Zendaya's biological kids — which is funny, given that one of the young stars already has very famous parents. In case you missed it, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa — who will star as Leto II alongside Ida Brooke as Ghanima — is the 16-year-old son of Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet. Kevin Winter / Getty Images, Mike Marsland / Mike Marsland/WireImage Of course, Jason also appeared in Dune: Part One as Duncan Idaho back in 2021, and will be reprising the role in Dune: Part Three. However, speaking at the premiere for his new Apple TV+ series, Chief of War, over the weekend, Jason was keen to emphasize that his son landed the part all by himself. 'He did it on his own. I didn't want to help him, and he's done it all on his own,' Jason told Extra TV after being asked about the Dune casting. 'I couldn't do what he's doing at his age. There's no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on Baywatch at 19. He's 16 and he's holding his shit down with Denis Villeneuve.' Despite praising his son's confidence and work ethic, Jason did joke that Nakoa-Wolf is in for 'a rude awakening' when he sees what really goes into moviemaking. '[He's] into the workforce for the first time. It's gonna be good,' he added. In another red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jason also joked that his son is gonna be 'way better' than him, which is exactly 'what you want for your children.' 'This kid…I [was] like, 'No, no, you can't act. No, no no,' and then he did it all on his own,' the dad of two gushed. 'He'll be a force.' Shooting for Dune: Part Three is reported to be starting very, very soon, so it sounds like these two have got a fun father-son trip in store. LMK your thoughts on the casting below.
