Police presence up around Bonnaroo campgrounds. How many arrests, citations issued?
The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival formally kicked off June 12, but campers have been on The Farm since Tuesday.
It wasn't until the first day of music that attendees started to notice police, according to several social media posts.
In a video posted to a Bonnaroo fan Facebook page, police were seen checking car trunks and searching through canopies and tents. Festivalgoers reported seeing their tent neighbors get raided by as many as a half dozen police on ATVs.
Police were out in teams of two and three July 13 patrolling plaza 3 of the campgrounds. Ethan Wilson, a Nashville resident, said he was walking through the campground when he saw a tent get raided.
"I don't know if they found anything, but they went through the camp. Opened the tents. I guess they got a tip someone bought from them or something," Wilson said.
Manchester Police Department Assistant Chief Adam Floied said they've made eight arrests and issued 16 citations since June 12.
"The citations came from the campgrounds so that would be mostly drug citations," he said. "For the arrests, I know we've charged some people with drug crimes, but I think there was a fight or two so probably an assault charge too."
Capt. Billy Butler with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office deferred all questions to the Manchester Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol.
"We are business as usual and nothing to report. I would defer any comments to those agencies," he said.
Floied, though, said the Manchester Police Department is staffed the same as years past.
"Our presence has been the same as every year," he said. "The Sheriff's Office and the Drug Task Force have increased their presence in the campgrounds."
The shifting resources left a hole in traffic enforcement this year. Floied said normally traffic is handled by the Coffee County Sheriff's Office and since they're in the campgrounds, the city had to fill those spots.
"A lot of our traffic enforcement this year are employees from like the water department, codes, other departments," he said.

Driver jumps curb, crashes into car during chase: THP
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person is injured and facing charges after troopers say they led them on a chase and hit another vehicle in Frayser Friday morning. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says it all started when they tried to initiate a traffic stop on a Ford Focus on Interstate 240 around 11 a.m. However, troopers say the driver refused to stop. At that time, a chase was initiated. During the chase, the Ford Focus is accused of driving over a curb at the intersection of North Watkins Street and Whitney Avenue, hitting a Honda CR-V. The driver of the Honda was not injured. THP says the driver in the Ford Focus was injured and they have been identified as 27-year-old Jelissa Smith. Kilmar Abrego Garcia could be released from custody Wednesday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A federal judge could decide to release Kilmar Abrego Garcia from jail Wednesday to await trial on human smuggling charges. Kilmar Abrego Garcia, 29, was deported to a prison in El Salvador in March and was brought back to the U.S. to face charges of human smuggling following a Tennessee traffic stop. He's accused of conspiring to bring undocumented migrants to the U.S. from around 2016 to 2025. The charges stem from a traffic stop by the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Putnam County in 2022. Body camera video shows officers discussing among themselves their suspicions of human smuggling before letting Abrego Garcia go free. He was not charged with any offense at the traffic stop before he was deported in March and returned on June 6. Click here for previous coverage on Kilmar Abrego Garcia. On Wednesday, prosecutors are expected to have a homeland security agent provide testimony about the traffic stop. The judge is expected to then rule on whether Abrego Garcia should be released while he awaits trial. Immigration officials have said they would immediately detain him and begin deportation proceedings. A federal judge in Maryland scolded the Trump administration Friday for its refusal to detail its deportation plans for Abrego Garcia, including where the government plans to send him and whether he'll get a chance to fight his expulsion. The administration argues Abrego Garcia is a danger to the community and can be deported before his trial to a country other than El Salvador. An U.S. immigration official said Thursday Mexico and South Sudan could be willing to accept him. Abrego Garcia has reportedly lived and worked in Maryland for more than a decade, working construction and raising a family. His American wife is suing the administration over his wrongful deportation in Maryland. The hearing is expected to begin at 1 p.m.

I-24 in Rutherford County reopens after driver killed in shooting
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Drivers experienced hours-long delays Saturday after all lanes of Interstate 24 were closed during an investigation into a deadly shooting near the Davidson-Rutherford County line. A shooting and a multi-vehicle crash were reported around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 12 in the area of I-24 West near mile marker 64. However, Lt. Steve Craig with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened at approximately 7:51 a.m. on the interstate toward Nashville. According to authorities, a Rutherford County man died after being shot while driving on I-24 near Waldron Road. Law enforcement will not release the man's identity until his family is notified. 📧 Have breaking news come to you: → Officials said the Metro Nashville Police Department and the Nashville Fire Department initially responded to the scene because the original call came to MNPD. Then, after the incident was determined to be on the Rutherford County side of the line, the sheriff's office and the La Vergne Police Department responded to the scene with Rutherford County Emergency Services while Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation closed the highway during the investigation. All lanes were blocked at approximately 8:30 a.m., so traffic was diverted at Waldron Road in La Vergne for nearly five hours.
