
Aseer draws 8 million tourists in 2024, minister says

ABHA — Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb announced that Aseer Region welcomed around 8 million tourists in 2024, positioning it as one of Saudi Arabia's leading tourism destinations.
The announcement came on Tuesday during his participation in the second edition of the Aseer Investment Forum.
Al-Khateeb highlighted Aseer's unique natural and cultural assets, saying they make the region an increasingly attractive environment for tourism investment.
He revealed that the region's hospitality sector is set to expand with the addition of nearly 4,000 new hotel rooms in the coming years, supported by Saudi Arabia's broader tourism ecosystem.
The minister also underscored the ministry's ongoing efforts to attract global hospitality brands, many of which are now eyeing Aseer due to its untapped potential and growing appeal.He emphasized the crucial role of the local community, especially Aseer's youth, in delivering an authentic and memorable tourism experience.Al-Khateeb noted that Aseer has evolved beyond its traditional image as a seasonal summer destination, becoming a year-round attraction thanks to its rich environmental and cultural diversity.Among the region's key cultural draws are Asiri arts such as Al-Qatt Al-Asiri, traditional clothing, and local cuisine, all of which have helped shape a distinctive tourism identity for the region.

Saudi Arabia's net FDI jumps 44% to SR22 billion in Q1 2025
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in Saudi Arabia jumped 44 percent to SR22.2 billion during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter last year. However, this figure recorded a seven percent decrease from Q4 of 2024, according to the Foreign Direct Investment Statistics bulletin for Q1 2025 published on Sunday by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT). The report showed that FDI outflows from the Kingdom totaled approximately SR1.8 billion in Q1 2025, reflecting a 54 percent decline from the same quarter in 2024, while increasing by 7 percent from Q4 of 2024. FDI inflows into the Kingdom reached about SR24 billion, a 24 percent increase from SR19.4 billion in Q1 2024, though they declined by 6 percent from Q4 2024. According to GASTAT, FDI reflects a long-term relationship and a permanent interest of economic entities residing in an economy other than the Saudi economy. This means that an individual foreign investor or a group of foreign investors owns 10 percent or more of the voting power of shareholder rights.

Saudi unemployment drops to record low of 6.3% in Q1 2025
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The unemployment rate among Saudi nationals dropped to an all-time low of 6.3% in the first quarter of 2025, marking the lowest level since the Kingdom began publishing labor force data, according to the latest figures released by the General Authority for Statistics. This historic decline was largely attributed to the increasing participation of Saudi women in the labor market. The female unemployment rate fell to a record-low 10.5%, a year-on-year drop of 3.6 percentage points. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate among Saudi women edged up by 0.3 percentage points to reach 36.3%, while the employment-to-population ratio rose by 0.7 percentage points to 32.5%. The unemployment rate among Saudi men also continued its downward trend, falling slightly to 4.0%, a year-on-year decline of 0.2 percentage the broader labor market, including both Saudis and non-Saudis, the overall unemployment rate fell to 2.8% in Q1 2025, compared to 3.5% during the same quarter a year Kingdom had initially set an ambitious Vision 2030 target to reduce Saudi unemployment to 7% by the end of the decade, an objective it surpassed ahead of schedule by the end of 2024. As a result, the government has revised its target downward to 5% by its concluding statement last week following Article IV consultations, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) commended Saudi Arabia's ongoing labor market reforms, noting that the unemployment rate among Saudi citizens had already dropped to 7% in 2024, well ahead of Vision 2030 targets.

Hajj Ministry: Gulf citizens can perform Umrah at any time
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced on Friday that the performance of Umrah pilgrimage will be available to the citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states at any time. The entry for the Gulf citizens is permitted through any port, provided that a permit is issued through the Nusuk app. The ministry clarified that GCC citizens can perform Umrah with simplified procedures, by issuing an Umrah permit through the Nusuk app and arriving directly through land or air ports. 'Visiting Al-Rawdah Al-Sharif at the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah requires prior appointment booking through the Nusuk app,' it added.
