Now, digital prescriptions at Lucknow's urban PHCs
Jun 28, 2025 05:06 AM IST Understanding names of medicines on prescriptions from doctors at 48 government urban primary health centres (UPHCs) in Lucknow will no longer be a trouble as a digital format has been introduced by the health department in the state capital. Lucknow's chief medical officer Dr NB Singh got the facility introduced. (For Representation) 'The prescription will be linked with the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID of the patient and the digital slip can be printed too, where names of medicines will be visibly clear,' said Lucknow's chief medical officer Dr NB Singh who got the facility introduced. At times, it was troublesome for chemists and patients alike to read handwritten prescriptions. The initiative will not only make it easier for patients to access medicines but will also ensure that their medical records are safely stored. The facility will soon be extended to the remaining 6 UPHCs. Additionally, 108 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) in urban areas will also adopt this facility. This in particular will be beneficial if the patient needs their medical record in future for treatment. Dr Singh said the digital prescriptions will be received in printed form and hence eliminating the need to decipher handwritten notes. He said these prescriptions will be stored in patients' ABHA IDs, allowing doctors to access their medical history. Moreover, the patients will no longer need to worry about losing their prescription papers.

Digital prescription facility launched at 48 urban PHCs
Lucknow: Reading the prescriptions of doctors will now become easier for patients as a digital prescription facility was launched at 48 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) in the district on Friday. The system will ensure that details of medication are printed clearly and directly linked to each patient's Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, securing their health records digitally. Chief medical officer Dr NB Singh said, "Out of 54 UPHCs in Lucknow, 48 have already started offering this facility. This will not only help patients easily understand the medicines prescribed to them but will also keep their records safe and accessible." He said that patients and even pharmacists often face difficulty in reading handwritten prescriptions. "Digital system eliminates this issue by providing printed prescriptions. Soon, the remaining 6 UPHCs will also implement this service," he said. Linking prescriptions with ABHA ID will help doctors view past medication records digitally in case a patient forgets or loses prescription slip.

X-ray on paper sheet: Politicos question facilities at medical college in UP's Sultanpur
LUCKNOW A video purportedly showing an X-ray image being printed on a paper sheet at the district hospital attached to the autonomous state medical college in Sultanpur went viral after political parties shared it on their social media handle. Samajawadi Party chief and former CM Akhilesh Yadav and AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh shared the video, raising questions over facilities at the government college. Yadav also criticised the state government. The college authorities, however, said it was out of choice to save money and avoid using plastic film that is generally used to print an X-ray image. Dr Salil K Srivastava, principal of the college, said: 'Printing the X-ray image on photo paper is by choice. We are doing it to avoid use of plastic films. This does not compromise treatment.' He added, 'While a plastic film costs ₹50, the photo paper costs ₹2, and the result of imaging is the same. With the change of medium, we save a lot of money of the state as 350 X-rays are done every day on an average.' Srivastava said in future, the image will be linked to the patient's ABHA ID and sent via WhatsApp. Senior faculty at Lucknow's King George's Medical University Prof Santosh Kumar said, 'If the image is clear, it makes no difference if it is on paper. The better option is to send it via digital platform to avoid using paper too.'

Bihar leads in in scan and share facility under Ayushman Bharat Mission
With a 92% online Out-Patient Department (OPD) registration rate at government health facilities, Bihar has recorded the highest number of Quick Response (QR) code scans for patient services under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), emerging as the leading State in the country for the 'scan and share' facility. According to the ABDM dashboard maintained by the National Health Authority (NHA), the total number of OPD registrations under the Mission since its inception in 2021 stands at 11.38 crore. Of these, Bihar accounts for 2.94 crore, followed by Uttar Pradesh at 2.25 crore and Andhra Pradesh at 1.70 crore. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is a national initiative aimed at establishing a digital health ecosystem by connecting patients, healthcare providers, and administrators through interoperable digital systems. For patients, the Mission translates into reduced waiting times and digitised documentation, encompassing basic vitals, doctors' prescriptions, diagnostic recommendations and results, and medicine dispensation. 'This also eliminates the need to store bulky hospital paperwork. The entire patient record is available at the click of a button,' Rajesh Kumar, Administrative Officer, State Health Society, Bihar, said. Senior State health officials noted that Bihar's robust digital health framework has been supported through its Mukhyamantri Digital Health Yojana (MMDHY) and the Bihar Health Application Visionary Yojana for All (BHAVYA). These initiatives integrate with the national ABDM to generate unique patient health IDs, electronic health records, and to streamline healthcare processes such as OPD registration, e-prescriptions, and medicine dispensation. 'Over 14.6 lakh ABHA numbers have been created in Nalanda district. With the Personal Health Records application, patients can use the Scan-and-Share feature as soon as they come into the health facility and register themselves. They will be given a token and all the health interventions then-on are recorded digitally. This can be repeated in every visit, creating a medical history that can be accessed with permission from the patient,' Jitendra Kumar Singh, Civil Surgeon, Community Health Centre (CHC), Silao, Nalanda, said. He added that the rise in users across the State is attributed to dedicated professionals stationed at facility entry points who assist patients in logging in with their unique ABHA ID and registering under the Mission. 'There is a very deliberate and aggressive push towards ensuring that we can digitise healthcare facilities and bring patients under the Mission,' he said. Ganesh Kumar (20), a patient at CHC Silao, said that digitisation of his medical records has simplified communication with healthcare providers. 'Everything is now available on my phone and the healthcare professionals know what treatment I have been on, what tests have been done, and which medicines I have taken. Things are simpler and easier,' he said. Ganesh has been using the feature for the past year and has a record of four health interventions at the CHC. While various healthcare centres across India continue to use their own digital systems, the ABDM aims to create an open, interoperable ecosystem. According to the Central government, such an ecosystem will enable efficient creation, storage, access, and sharing of health records, thereby aiding clinical decision-making and contributing to public health and research.

The minister also underscored the ministry's ongoing efforts to attract global hospitality brands, many of which are now eyeing Aseer due to its untapped potential and growing emphasized the crucial role of the local community, especially Aseer's youth, in delivering an authentic and memorable tourism noted that Aseer has evolved beyond its traditional image as a seasonal summer destination, becoming a year-round attraction thanks to its rich environmental and cultural the region's key cultural draws are Asiri arts such as Al-Qatt Al-Asiri, traditional clothing, and local cuisine, all of which have helped shape a distinctive tourism identity for the region.
