Tied for lead, injury forces former DPWT winner to withdraw from final group
An injury knocked Eddie Pepperell from Sunday's final grouping on Europe's secondary circuit.
Pepperell was tied for the lead with David Horsey and Albin Bergstrom at 13 under entering the last round of the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge, a French stop on the HotelPlanner Tour, formerly the Challenge Tour. But the 34-year-old Englishman was forced to withdraw because of a back injury that flared up overnight.
Not active on social media since last summer, Pepperell has yet to comment on the withdrawal.
A two-time DP World Tour winner, though not since 2018, Pepperell missed six weeks of action after withdrawing six holes into his second round at the DPWT's Turkish Airlines Open in early May. Pepperell blamed burnout and subsequent poor play, saying later, 'I knew before Turkey, but I certainly knew when I was heading off the course in a buggy in Turkey that I wasn't going to see a golf course for a while.'
He returned to the HotelPlanner Tour last week in Pleneuf, France, where he missed the cut. He currently sits No. 74 in the Road to Mallorca, where the top 20 players at season's end earn DPWT status.
Pepperell, who is ranked 538th in the world rankings, lost his DPWT card last season. He then narrowly missed at Q-School.
'So far this week, I've played the golf I used to play,' Pepperell said Saturday evening after rounds of 70-67-66. '… I feel refreshed for sure. I feel much calmer and my energy levels have been a lot better which is a good sign. I'm definitely in a better place physically and psychologically, too.'
Horsey and Bergstrom played Sunday as a twosome.

PSG Eliminates Lionel Messi and Inter Miami From the FIFA Club World Cup
Inter Miami's run in the FIFA Club World Cup is over. Lionel Messi-led Miami, the only one of Major League Soccer's three participating clubs to advance to the 32-team tournament's round of 16, were humbled by European champions Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 on Sunday in Atlanta. PSG, the club Messi played for from 2021 until arriving in South Florida two summers ago, won its first UEFA Champions League title last month, beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the continental final. Sunday's match went much the same way. The French titans ran out to a lopsided first-half lead and never looked back. Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves opened the scoring just five minutes into the match on an unmarked header from point-blank range. Miami tightened up defensively after that — until a fatal six-minute stretch at the end of the first half. Neves doubled the Parisians' advantage in the 39th-minute, and PSG added two more goals before the halftime whistle sounded. The first was an own goal by substitute Herons defender Tomas Aviles, who came on for an injured Noah Allen. Star PSG fullback Achraf Hakimi then made it 4-0 in first half stoppage time, effectively ending the contest there and then. PSG is coached by Spaniard Luis Enrique, who managed Messi plus Miami teammates Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez plus Herons' boss Javier Mascherano with Barcelona in the mid-2010s. The Champions League winners will take on either Brazilian giants Flamengo or European rivals Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals next Saturday. That game will also be staged at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Georgia's capital. Miami returns to MLS regular season action next Saturday, when they face CF Montreal north of the border. MLS clubs LAFC and the Seattle Sounders were eliminated from the Club World Cup in the group stage. Neither won a game. Miami, meantime, went undefeated in the first round, beating two-time European champ Porto and tying Brazil's Palmeiras and Egypt's Al Ahly. PSG strikes early, takes 1-0 lead over Messi, Inter Miami in Club World Cup Round of 16
The first 'Messi! Messi!' chants inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium began at exactly 11:22 a.m. Sunday morning, as an expected crowd of more than 62,000 filed in for the highly anticipated Club World Cup Round of 16 showdown between Lionel Messi's Inter Miami team and his former team, Paris Saint-Germain. It is a game with many interesting subplots, starting with the fact that despite having Messi and his high-profile friends on the roster, Inter Miami was a heavy underdog against a PSG team that just won the Champions League final 5-0 over Inter Milan, a team stacked with multi-millionaire stars. The French powerhouse showed its dominance from the opening whistle, pressing high and then taking a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute on header by a wide open Joao Neves on a free kick from the left by Vitinha. Inter Miami's Starting XI featured Oscar Ustari, Marcelo Weigandt, Maxi Falcon, Noah Allen, Jordi Allen, Tadeo Allende, Fede Redondo, Sergio Busquets, Telasco Segovia, Messi (captain), Luis Suarez. Allen went down with an apparent hamstring injury at the 19-minute mark, was replaced by Toto Aviles, who one minute later was shown a yellow card for a bad foul. PSG's starters included Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos (captain), Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes, Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, Joao Neves, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola. In addition to the Messi and PSG reunion, the game also featured PSG coach Luis Enrique against five of his former FC Barcelona players, Messi, Suarez, Busquets, Alba, and Javier Mascherano, now the Inter Miami coach and a protégé of Enrique's. Both coaches discussed their special relationship in the leadup to the game. Mascherano acknowledged that his team's improbable undefeated three-game run in this tournament led them to a game that is much more daunting. But his team is up for the challenge, he said. 'We know going into this game that we are the weaker team, but don't dismiss us, we are going to fight,' Mascherano said. 'The beautiful thing about this game is that we earned the right to play in it. Going into the tournament, to be honest, it was difficult for us to have this opportunity. But our players did well and earned it. 'The challenge now is to come in and prove ourselves against the best team in the world. And while it will be hard, we will look for that moment when maybe the game turns and gives us a chance to reach the next round.' Inter Miami co-owners David Beckham and Jorge and Jose Mas were at the game, and shared their thoughts with 'We're super proud, we started Inter Miami with dreaming,' said Jorge Mas. 'It's on our jersey, `Freedom to Dream'. To be standing here playing in the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup against the European champions is a dream come true. 'But it's only part of our journey. We continue dreaming big. Irrespective of the outcome [Sunday], we're going continue dreaming so that when people think of futbol in the United States, they'll think of Inter Miami.
