Crocodile attack feared as man vanishes while fishing in Matang
KUCHING, June 28 — A 32-year-old man is believed to be the latest victim of a crocodile attack at Muara Senggey river near Jalan Matang-Kampung Paroh, Matang here last night.
The victim, identified as Jacob Tuan, was reportedly fishing along the riverbank when he was attacked, approximately 200 metres from the nearby road.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) dispatched teams from Petra Jaya and Batu Lintang fire stations after his family members made a distress call at around 10pm last night.
'The incident occurred at a riverbank about 200 metres from the nearby road. However, the search-and-rescue (SAR) team faced difficulties due to thick vegetation and poor visibility,' Bomba said in a statement.
The SAR operation was postponed at 12.30am and will resume later this morning. — The Borneo Post

Nazrul Fazami said that no relief centre (PPS) has been opened, as all victims are reportedly staying with their relatives nearby. 'A meeting with representatives of the residents found that all victims currently have temporary shelter, so there is no need to open a PPS at this time. 'However, further discussions will be held from time to time to assess the need to open a PPS should the situation arise,' he said. Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said it was still too early to determine the cause of the fire. He said JBPM's forensic team is still investigating to determine the actual cause of the incident. 'Based on initial information from witnesses at the scene, the fire is believed to have originated in one of the houses at the back row of the affected premises. 'As a result, the scope of the investigation has been narrowed, and focus will be placed on that house to identify the exact cause of the fire,' he said. — Bernama

Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper listed the five countries as the United States, Singapore, Japan, Italy and the Crown Dependency of Jersey, an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy, France. The assets in question were allegedly not declared to the MACC during its investigation. 'Other nations where assets are allegedly being held will also face similar action,' one unnamed source was quoted as saying. Newborn with umbilical cord still attached found alive in plastic bag near Kuala Selangor mosque
SHAH ALAM, June 28 — A newborn baby boy, wrapped in a plastic bag, was found abandoned by the roadside near a mosque in Kampung Api-Api, Kuala Selangor on Friday night. Kuala Selangor police chief Supt Azaharudin Tajudin said the discovery was reported to police by Sungai Buloh Hospital at around 9.11 pm. 'According to initial findings, the baby was full-term and in stable condition, weighing 2.135 kilogrammes. He is believed to be less than a week old, with his umbilical cord still attached,' he said in a statement today. The infant, found by a member of the public, has since been transferred to Tanjong Karang Hospital for medical check-ups. Azaharudin urged anyone with information to come forward to the nearest police station or contact Investigating Officer Insp Siti Mazliah Azizi at 017-6649100. The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for exposure and abandonment of a child. — Bernama
