Missing Hunter Found Dead Months After He Got Swept Away While Trying to Cross River in an Inner Tube

Washington state authorities said David Brinkmeyer, 72, tried to cross the Muddy River in an inner tube in November when it overturned and he was swept away An extensive search at the time did not yield his location Months later, his body was found in the Swift ReservoirThe remains of a 72-year-old man who went missing last November while hunting near a river in Washington state have been recovered. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that authorities received a call on Sunday, June 22, about a body that was found in the Swift Reservoir, 15 miles east of Cougar. Deputies and a coroner traveled to the location by boat and recovered the remains, which were identified as belonging to David Brinkmeyer. On Nov. 13, Brinkmeyer tried to cross the Muddy River in an inner tube through a rope system to access his hunting camp, according to authorities. 'The tube overturned and Brinkmeyer was swept away in the fast-moving water,' authorities continued. Despite an extensive search by the sheriff's office using air assets, ground searchers and rope teams, Brinkmeyer was not found and a decision was made to end search efforts. Brinkmeyer's remains were eventually recovered about 12.5 miles away from where he was last seen. 'He prepared for months — I have so many voicemails from him gearing up.' Brinkmeyer's voicemail message to the family, which was later shared with KPTV, detailed his experiences in the outdoors before his disappearance. 'I'm having a good time and I'm actually thinking about you every time I put this Shelby Lynn jacket on. Alright, hope to bring you home some elk meat,' Brinkmeyer could be heard saying in the recording. After his body was found, Ells told the outlet that she felt "relief that we don't have to have nightmares about dad anymore." She added, "Now we can grieve." Read the original article on People

Divers search water for Fraser Coast man missing at Boondooma Dam

The search for a Fraser Coast man missing at a dam in Queensland's South Burnett has entered its second day. The 74-year-old was last seen in an inflatable dinghy on Boondooma Dam in Proston, about 340 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, about 5:45am on Thursday. The dinghy was spotted with its motor still running close to the dam's shoreline about 9:15am. A search and rescue operation is underway with the assistance of the State Emergency Service (SES), dam personnel and aerial assets. Inspector Scott Stahlhut from the Queensland Police patrol group said a large search was being conducted on the shoreline of the dam and in the water. "Today we've deployed our dive squad, and we're using sonar technology at the present time in an effort to locate the missing gentleman," he said. "There is a chance that this gentleman may have made it to shore. "We're keeping our options open and we're hoping for the best outcome." Police believe the missing man regularly visited Boondooma Dam and was fishing in the Little Cove section when he went missing. Inspector Stahlhut said locals had been assisting in the search. "Those that did have appropriate craft and water vessels did assist [on Thursday] and are assisting today as well," he said. "There's a lot of coves and a lot of areas where people actually visit for recreational purposes." The man was last seen wearing a blue jacket and dark coloured pants. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

New eyes in the skies: What to know about new DPS assets in the San Angelo area

San Angelo residents might notice more activity in the skies with the Texas Department of Public Safety's addition of its Aircraft Operations Division to the area, according to a DPS media release. DPS officials said the expansion is a big step in enhancing public safety and operational capabilities across a broad region stretching from Del Rio to Lubbock. The San Angelo unit is operating both a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft, providing vital air support across this large geographic area, officials said in the media release. "We are excited to bring this valuable service to the San Angelo area," DPS officials said. "While residents may notice increased aerial activity, rest assured — it's a friendly eye in the sky, dedicated to keeping our communities safe." DPS officials said the AOD plays a crucial role in statewide air patrols, criminal surveillance, and search and rescue missions. In addition, the division strengthens public safety while supporting all DPS divisions and county, state, and federal agencies, DPS officials said. With advanced technology, air patrol units assist in apprehending fugitives, locating suspects, deterring criminal activity and reinforcing border security. "Additionally, the division enhances search and rescue operations by partnering with local, state, and federal first responders to locate and recover individuals during disaster-related incidents," DPS official said in the media release.
