Punjab VB raids premises of former SAD leader soon after he joins BJP

Time of Indiaa day ago
Mohali: The officials of the Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Saturday conducted searches at the premises of former Akali leader and prominent realtor Ranjit Singh Gill in Chandigarh and Mohali.
However, no official statement regarding the operation was issued by the VB. On the other hand, BJP leader Subhash Sharma defended Gill, criticising the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP govt for "vindictive politics". The searches followed Gill's joining of the BJP on Friday.
On Saturday morning, VB sleuths carried out raids at Gill's residence in Chandigarh and his office in Kharar, Mohali. Officials also seized documents from his office for further examination.
As the news of the VB raids on Gill's premises spread, the BJP Mohali district team held a protest against the Bhagwant Mann-led government and submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner's representative. BJP district president Sanjeev Vashisht alleged that Ranjit Singh Gill, who was being pressured by the Bhagwant Mann government to join the Aam Aadmi Party, decided to join the BJP instead. "Immediately after his decision, the vigilance department raided his premises, which is clearly a politically motivated action," he said.

Gill recently withdrew from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). He was previously known to be a trusted associate of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Gill had contested unsuccessfully from the Kharar Assembly constituency in the 2017 and 2022 Punjab assembly elections.
Upon joining the BJP on Friday, Gill expressed support for the party's initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. The joining ceremony took place at Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini's residence.
Further, Vashisht stated that the BJP strongly condemned such acts of revenge and authoritarian actions. The BJP clarified that such actions would be opposed at every level to protect democracy and justice in Punjab. "The Bhagwant Mann-led government failed on all fronts and is now misusing the vigilance department to intimidate its political opponents, which is extremely dangerous for democracy," said the BJP leader.
He stated that the BJP would not be intimidated by such actions.
Raid driven by political vendetta: BJP
Ashwani Sharma, Punjab BJP's state working president, stated that the AAP had been pressuring Ranjit Singh Gill for the past 15 days to join their party. However, when Gill did not agree and instead joined the BJP – considering phenomenal national development and Punjab's future – the AAP-led Punjab government orchestrated a VB raid against him out of political vendetta.
Sharma further claimed that the VB raid occurring within just 12 hours of Gill joining the BJP proved that the AAP now recognized the BJP as its principal political alternative in Punjab for the 2027 elections.
Sharma added that CM Mann and the AAP government should remember that Punjabis feared no one. "Punjabis have now realized that the Punjab government is actually run by Delhi leaders Kejriwal and Sisodia, who are looting Punjab," he said.

BJP's Dr. Vinusha Reddy was chosen as sole Indian delegate for the prestigious US leadership exchange program

Kurnool: Dr. Vinusha Reddy, BJP spokesperson from Andhra Pradesh, has been officially selected by the US Embassy in New Delhi as the only Indian delegate for the 2025 International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) — the US State Department's premier exchange initiative for emerging global leaders. The program, running from August 9 to August 30, will focus on the theme 'Women in Politics and Civil Society,' with participation from representatives of 20 countries including Japan, Germany, Argentina, Ukraine, South Africa, and Taiwan. During the program, Dr. Reddy and fellow delegates will travel across multiple American cities — including Washington D.C., Boston, Manchester and Concord (New Hampshire), Columbia (South Carolina), and Salt Lake City (Utah) — engaging with U.S. lawmakers, civic organizations, and women leaders. Key components of the itinerary include a leadership workshop by Gallup, a session with the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues, and policy discussions with organizations advocating for equal pay and gender parity in political life. A medical practitioner and author, Dr. Vinusha Reddy runs a hospital in Kurnool and penned the acclaimed book 'India Before & After 2014: Why Bharat Needs BJP?' She also represented India at the 2023 BRICS Political Parties Plus Dialogue Summit in South Africa, where she played a pivotal role in drafting the summit resolution alongside BJP leader Annamalai Kuppusamy. Her IVLP selection comes as India intensifies focus on women's representation, with the central government's proposed 33% reservation for women in the 2029 Lok Sabha and assembly elections. Speaking to The Hans India ahead of her visit, Dr. Reddy expressed gratitude to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for championing women's leadership. 'This is not just a personal honour but a recognition of the BJP's commitment to empowering new voices, especially women,' she said. With former Indian IVLP alumni including Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Morarji Desai, and Prime Minister Modi, Dr. Reddy joins a prestigious legacy of Indian leaders contributing to global dialogue and diplomacy.

‘Is he helping nations inimical to our country?' asks BJP after SC raps Rahul Gandhi over remarks on Army

Soon after the Supreme Court slammed Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his alleged remarks on the Indian Army, the BJP on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress leader, questioning if he is helping enemy nations, instead of protecting the sovereignty of India. Addressing a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said the Supreme Court's rap shows that Gandhi need to be 'careful' with his future statements. 'Certainly, Mr (Rahul) Gandhi needs to be more careful in future… the question arises — does India deserve a better leader of opposition. The question arises — as a leader of Opposition, who has taken oath under the Constitution to protect the sovereignty of the country is destroying the sovereignty of our country,' he said. He also added: 'Is he helping the nations that are inimical to our country. and is he demoralising the brave Indian armed forces. What kind of leader of Opposition he is, who makes such irresponsible statement?' The apex court stayed the proceedings in a criminal defamation case against Gandhi over his alleged remarks on the Army over the 2020 Galwan clash with the Chinese. Presiding over a two-judge bench, Justice Dipankar Datta told Senior Advocate A M Singhvi, who appeared for the Congress leader, 'We have read the comments… Tells us… How do you get to know that 2000 square kilometres of Indian territory have been occupied by the Chinese? Were you there? Do you have any credible material? Why do you make these statements without having any…?' The top court was hearing Gandhi's appeal challenging the Allahabad High Court judgment refusing to stay the proceedings initiated in a Lucknow trial court against him over his comments that 'Chinese soldiers are beating up Indian Army personnel'. As per the complainant, Uday Shankar Srivastava, the former director of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the comments made on December 16, 2022, during Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, defamed the Army.
