By: Bernama Text Size: TNB has also introduced an online Electricity Bill Calculator on its website, enabling customers to estimate costs under the new structure Kuala Lumpur: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) customers can now access a more detailed breakdown of their electricity bills following the implementation of a new tariff structure approved by the Energy Commission. The updated billing format aims to improve transparency and help consumers understand their energy consumption patterns. Under the new system, bills will display three key components: Generation Charge, Network Charge, and Retail Charge. According to TNB's official website, 'The Generation Charge covers fuel costs, generation capacity, and global fuel price adjustments. The Network Charge involves operational costs for transmission and supply system maintenance, while the Retail Charge includes customer service, billing, and account management costs.' This change is part of the Incentive-Based Regulation (IBR) mechanism under Section 26 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990. The detailed breakdown allows customers to track spending more accurately and make informed decisions about energy use. For July 2025, customers will receive a transitional bill reflecting two different tariff periods: usage before June 30 (old rates) and from July 1 onwards (new rates). 'The July 2025 transitional bill will be available within 24 hours via the myTNB app and portal, while printed bills will be delivered within seven working days,' TNB stated. To assist users, TNB has also introduced an online Electricity Bill Calculator on its website, enabling customers to estimate costs under the new structure. Sabah Development Bank Berhad slashes pre-tax losses to RM86 million from RM878 million

Published on: Wednesday, July 02, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 02, 2025 Text Size: The bank approved RM1.763 billion in loans within its development mandate between January 2024 and June 2025, while rejecting RM9.646 billion in applications that fell outside its scope. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Development Bank Berhad (SDB) recorded a dramatic financial recovery, slashing its pre-tax losses by 90 per cent to RM86 million in 2024, down from RM878 million the previous year. In a statement Tuesday, the state-owned bank attributed the improvement to its ongoing transformation programme launched in late 2023 under a new leadership. The bank expects to return to profitability in FY2025. 'This progress reflects positive momentum in SDB's ongoing 3-Year Transformation Journey,' SDB said, in a statement, noting that extensive provisions for bad loans and asset write-downs had contributed to the heavy losses in 2023. The bank's financial health has strengthened considerably, with its capital ratio recovering from 7.9 per cent at end-2023 to 20.71 per cent by December 2024, supported by the Sabah Government. RAM Rating Services Berhad (RAM) affirmed SDB's strong AA1 credit rating in June, citing high payment safety and stable outlook. The SDB has refocused its operations on financing Sabah's development projects, particularly in infrastructure, power and water sectors. The bank approved RM1.763 billion in loans within its development mandate between January 2024 and June 2025, while rejecting RM9.646 billion in applications that fell outside its scope. The bank has also made progress tackling non-performing loans through a dedicated recovery team, with RM965 million in settlement proposals approved and RM2 billion in pledged securities under receivership. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Upset over Sabah's exclusion

Published on: Wednesday, July 02, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 02, 2025 By: Sherell Jeffrey Text Size: Jeffrey also spoke about the recent federal decisions regarding the Ambalat area, which he maintains falls within Sabah's territorial boundaries. Kota Kinabalu: Jeffrey also expressed disappointment over Sabah being excluded from hosting a federal technical committee meeting on the state's 40 per cent revenue entitlement, which was scheduled for June 30. Despite cabinet approval and preparations to host the meeting, Jeffrey said that a crucial letter to the Prime Minister was never sent by the State Secretariat office (SKN). 'I am disappointed, because we were looking forward at least to try and get some kind of conclusion to the 40 per cent payment,' he said, adding he would seek explanations (from the State Secretary) on why the letter was not forwarded despite State Cabinet agreement. Jeffrey also spoke about the recent federal decisions regarding the Ambalat area, which he maintains falls within Sabah's territorial boundaries. 'Ambalat has been decided that that area is within our Sabah territory and if this decision was truly made without consulting Sabah, then it is not good, it is another way of bypassing the rights of Sabah,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Asean secretary-general urges stronger cruise tourism ties with India

JAKARTA: (Bernama) Asean secretary-general Dr Kao Kim Hourn has outlined actions to be taken under the Asean-India Tourism Work Plan 2023-2027 to advance cruise tourism cooperation between the two regions. Speaking virtually from Jakarta during the Asean-India Cruise Dialogue 2025 held in Chennai on Monday (June 30), he said the initiative provides a timely platform to deepen maritime tourism and strengthen regional connectivity. "The Cruise Dialogue offers a strategic platform to translate our shared aspirations into action. By working together, we can develop initiatives that link heritage, culture, and communities across our coastal regions,' he said in a video message released by the Asean Secretariat. Kao outlined several priorities under the work plan, including the development of integrated cruise circuits, enhancement of port infrastructure with digital systems, and promotion of joint investments in cruise-related services. He emphasised capacity-building in cruise operations and hospitality, especially targeting youth and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and called for stronger coordination through the Asean Task Force on Tourism and Transport. Sustainability was also a key theme, with calls to protect marine ecosystems, improve climate resilience, and harness digital platforms to enhance passenger experiences and operational coordination. "These areas of cooperation reflect the potential for Asean and India to lead in sustainable and inclusive cruise tourism,' Kao said, noting India's US$5 million contribution to the Asean-India Fund as a vital support mechanism. With over 40 cruise destinations in Asean and major port upgrades underway, he said the sector is emerging as a strategic growth area. The dialogue was held as part of the Asean-India Year of Tourism aimed at strengthening tourism ties between the two regions. Travel between Asean and India has been growing, with about 5.88 million Indian tourists visiting Asean last year and 660,000 visitors from Asean countries travelling to India, Kao added. - Bernama
