Packers Trade Pitch Sends 1,700-Yard WR To Steelers to Join Aaron Rodgers
Packers Trade Pitch Sends 1,700-Yard WR To Steelers to Join Aaron Rodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs has been one of the most trusted targets for quarterback Jordan Love since he took over as the team's franchise quarterback in 2023. Throughout his career, Doubs has posted 1700 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. Moreover, he recorded at least 64 targets in each of the past three seasons, including 70 in 2024.

Still, Doubs has yet to develop into a clear No. 1 option in the receiving corps, something many Packers fans believe the team needs heading into 2025. With Doubs entering the final year of his rookie contract, he should feel a strong sense of urgency to deliver results and prove he deserves a second deal with Green Bay.
It is anyone's guess whether Doubs will still be with the Packers next year. However, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox sees the wide receiver as a potential trade target this season.

"There's a chance Doubs could be available this season. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract and is likely to face a lot of competition during training camp," Knox wrote.

"Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks are back, and the Packers used first- and third-round picks on Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, respectively, in April," he added. "If Green Bay decides to move one of its young pass-catchers, Doubs—who topped 600 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons—would be a logical candidate."
Knox went on to mention the Pittsburgh Steelers as a landing spot for Doubs, which makes sense given Aaron Rodgers' familiarity with the former Nevada receiver.
"The Steelers would be an obvious landing spot for the Nevada product if he is on the move. They need receiver depth, and Rodgers has experience playing with him," Know wrote. "Doubs' rookie season coincided with the veteran's last campaign as a Packer."
Doubs and Rodgers played together in 2022, which was Doubs' rookie season. That year, the young receiver logged 42 catches for 425 yards and three touchdowns. The Steelers traded for DK Metcalf this offseason but also dealt George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, so they could be in the market for an affordable option to complement Metcalf in the passing game.

The most likely scenario is Doubs playing out the final year of his rookie deal in Green Bay. While it could be tough for the Packers to retain him next offseason—especially with six starters potentially hitting the open market—keeping Doubs on the roster for 2024 should be in the team's best interest. When you are aiming to take that extra step toward a championship, you do not trade away a top target.

Shohei Ohtani throws fastest pitch of MLB career in third mound start for Los Angeles Dodgers
Shohei Ohtani threw the fastest pitch of his MLB career on Saturday as he continued his return to the mound with two innings during the Los Angeles Dodgers' 9-5 defeat to the Kansas City Royals. Making just his third start as a pitcher for the Dodgers, Ohtani threw a fastball to Vinnie Pasquantino on an 0-2 count that clocked in at 101.7 mph and was grounded into a double play by the first baseman. The Japanese two-way superstar couldn't contain his smile as he walked back to the dugout. 'It's something that I don't think I would have been able to do in a live BP (batting practice) setting, so it's nice to be able to hit this velo and see how my body reacts,' he said afterward through interpreter Will Ireton, per 'I felt pretty good about being able to come back and pitch well, especially considering when I first had the surgery – the second time through was a lot better in terms of recovery than the first time through,' added Ohtani, who did not pitch in his record-breaking debut season for the Dodgers last year after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery in 2023. 'Just talking to the doctor, he was very confident that I was able to come back at full form.' Ohtani's 101.7 mph was the Dodgers' fastest of the season and the franchise's second-fastest since the beginning of 2023. Four of the seven pitches which have clocked in at over 100 mph for the Dodgers this year were thrown by Ohtani on Saturday, according to 'There's a little bit of stress, and that's when you start seeing the hundreds and trying to bully guys,' said manager Dave Roberts, per 'And I still thought the sweeper was good, the sinker was good, but no one knows himself better than he does. And so, again, today I thought he was still in control, and it was still good to see triple digits.' While Saturday's pitch was the fastest of his MLB career, Ohtani has previously dialed it up to 102 mph for Team Japan during the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Remarkably, that pitch was also to Pasquantino. '(Ohtani) keeps doing that to me,' said the Royals man on Saturday, per 'I just saw the fastest pitches he's ever thrown in his career – two of them are against me. His two hardest throws. I need to talk to him.' The Japanese star allowed one hit to Bobby Witt Jr. and one walk to Maikel García during the first inning at Kauffman Stadium, before sending the Royals down one-two-three in the second. In total, he threw 27 pitches, 20 of which were strikes, and struck out one batter – Jac Caglianone. At the plate, he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. During his five seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani had 86 starts on the mound, going 38-19 with an ERA 3.01.

Wisconsin basketball offers rising in-state class of 2027 small forward
Wisconsin basketball extended an offer to rising class of 2027 small forward Deuce McDuffie following its advanced camp on Thursday. McDuffie, a 6-foot-6, 205-pound forward, is one of three class of 2027 prospects to receive an offer from Greg Gard's program this week. After welcoming a batch of the most prestigious class of 2026, 2027 and 2028 high school prospects to its development camp, UW also extended offers to combo guard Jalen Brown and small forward Jack Kohnen. While neither 247Sports nor Rivals has assigned a recruiting ranking to McDuffie, he does boast four offers at this stage of the process. In addition to Wisconsin, his offer sheet includes Grambling State, Green Bay and SIU-Edwardsville. As a sophomore at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, McDuffie averaged 19.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.9 steals per appearance. He scored 20 or more points on 15 occasions, including a 42-point, seven-rebound performance against Milwaukee Juneau on Feb. 3. Arguably the most notable aspect of McDuffie's recruiting profile revolves around his familial ties to Wisconsin. His father, Otto, played 37 games with the Badgers from 1992-94 before transferring to Milwaukee for his junior and senior campaigns from 1995-97. While the elder McDuffie did not start a game for UW, he did play alongside future NBA star Michael Finley and appeared in the NCAA Tournament during the 1993-94 slate. As of June 27, Wisconsin has extended offers to six members of the class of 2027: four-star shooting guard Dooney Johnson, four-star small forward Donovan Davis, three-star small forward Ty Schlagel, and Brown, Kohnen, and McDuffie. While the 2027 window is roughly one year away, McDuffie's in-state relationship and familial ties may play a role in where he ends up on the collegiate stage. Kansas City Chiefs OL Trey Smith reflects on health issues before the 2021 NFL Draft
During the latest episode of New Heights, Travis Kelce and his brother Jason welcomed Kansas City Chiefs offensive guard Trey Smith. The Pro Bowl offensive lineman opened up about his battle with blood clots at Tennessee. "One week in conditioning, we were doing half-gassers, and I passed out. I had never passed out. I couldn't breathe well," said Smith, "I lost 13 pounds in a day. I remember talking to our team doctor, 'Hey, you guys gotta run more tests on me; I feel terrible. And he's like, 'We're gonna do a blood draw, just go ahead and go to class." After starting at left tackle during his sophomore season, Tennessee's medical staff discovered blood clots in Smith's lungs and ruled him out indefinitely. The issue was identified in February 2018, before the start of spring practice. "They rush me to the hospital and figure out that I have blood clots in both sides of my lungs," said Smith, "So that was sort of one of those moments where it's like, man, can I still play football? Like, what does this mean? And pretty much, I was working with the doctors for five months. (I had to go on) blood thinners." Smith started all ten games in his last collegiate season, earning first-team All-SEC honors for the Volunteers. "So it was a crazy experience. But in my junior year, I was able to play the entire season. Decided to stay at Tennessee, "said Smith, "I made a promise to my deceased mom, Dorsetta Smith, that I would get my degree and play in the NFL one day. So I kept my promise." Smith was drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and has emerged as one of the best offensive linemen in the league.
