Packers' $4 million WR with 15-TD signals he is the odd man out after cryptic Stephen Curry post
The Green Bay Packers have some roster decisions to make—surprisingly, it's not the defense that needs help, but rather the wide receiver room, which may be overcrowded. It appears rookie Matthew Golden has impressed enough to potentially push a fellow receiver out of Green Bay. 'The Packers picked the fastest receiver in the draft, Matthew Golden, and early returns from Green Bay say the rookie's overall athleticism has already shown up," Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer wrote. "It'll be interesting to see whether a veteran receiver shakes free in a trade based on Golden's development." Romeo Doubs has long been rumored as the odd man out, frequently appearing in trade speculation. Most recently, he's been linked as a possible replacement for Mike Williams on the Chargers, following Williams' unexpected retirement. 'The Green Bay Packers would undoubtedly love to keep Romeo Doubs and haven't indicated any intention to trade him, but it's time they did. Now, the perfect destination has emerged. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams is surprisingly retiring from the NFL. It's a decision few saw coming, and it leaves the Chargers with a potential problem at wide receiver,' Lombardi Ave's Freddie Boston wrote. Adding more fuel to the rumors, Doubs recently posted something cryptic on Instagram, which many fans interpreted as a sign that he may know what's coming. Steelers Nation's Anthony G. Halkias II believes it could indicate frustration with his current role in Green Bay. 'The post quickly caught the attention of football fans, many of whom saw it as a sign that something might be going on behind the scenes in Green Bay. While nothing has been confirmed, the image sparked speculation that Doubs may be frustrated with his role or future with the team,' Halkias wrote. Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Cryptic social media posts often signal that a player has been informed about an impending change. In Doubs' case, it seems likely he has been updated on his future with the Packers—and he might not be thrilled about it.

Tennessee Titans predicted to trade for WR Romeo Doubs
It's no secret that the Tennessee Titans need to do all they can to support rookie quarterback Cam Ward in his first season. With Calvin Ridley set to lead the way again in the wide receiver room, the Titans also added veterans Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson alongside draft picks Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor. Advertisement Even with those additions, the wide receiver room is far from complete, which means a potential acquisition is always possible for first-year general manager Mike Borgonzi. When looking at some bold predictions entering 2025 NFL training camp, Bleacher Report's Moe Moton has Tennessee acquiring wide receiver Romeo Doubs from the Green Bay Packers. Tennessee added veteran wideouts Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett, but neither of the two moves the needle. Since 2022, Jefferson has made a minimal impact on three different teams. Lockett's receiving numbers have declined over the past three years. Doubs can carve out a sizable role with the Titans as their No. 2 receiver behind Calvin Ridley. He has much greater potential on a squad that needs help at his position. Doubs has always been a bit underrated since he was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft. He doesn't profile as a No. 1 option, but he'd be a fine addition as an auxiliary piece behind Ridley. The Packers seemingly have a stockpile of wide receivers going into the young season. Doubs is in the mix with Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, and 2025 first-round selection Matthew Golden. Advertisement After coming off a career season in 2023 when he posted career-best marks with 59 receptions for 671 yards and eight touchdowns, Doubs regressed a bit in 2024. The Nevada product posted 46 receptions for 601 yards and four touchdowns last season. The Titans will be searching for a new No. 2 wideout across from Ridley, and if there really is a logjam in Green Bay, it might behoove Tennessee to make a call. Jets Urged To Trade for 15-TD Receiver from NFC Contender
Jets Urged To Trade for 15-TD Receiver from NFC Contender originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Jets receiver room might just be the biggest red flag for new coach Aaron Glenn as he looks to make his mark in his first season in the Big Apple. Advertisement New QB Justin Fields has Garrett Wilson and ... Well, Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard, Tyler Johnson, Malachi Corley and Arian Smith as his weapons, and that doesn't scream good offense. But could the Jets potentially look at trading for a receiver? Yes, we get it, Glenn shouldn't be parting ways with draft capital at this stage of the rebuild; they need all the picks they can get. However, for Jets Wire writer Justin Melo, he's thrown up Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs as a potential option. "General manager Darren Mougey should be monitoring opportunities to add proven assets to the position room. One could emerge in Green Bay in the form of Romeo Doubs," Melo wrote. Advertisement "The rebuilding Jets shouldn't be willing to part with draft capital … unless the player they acquire could be a long-term solution. Doubs is a 25-year-old talented receiver in a contract year. Given the current state of the Packers' wideout situation, Mougey should gauge the Packers' interest in moving Doubs." The Jets do have the cap space, but we aren't sure if they would be willing to part ways with draft capital. Plus, Doubs is entering the final year of his rookie deal, so would New York want to potentially trade away draft assets and pay Romeo next season if things go well? We aren't sure on that, either. Advertisement But Doubs, in his three seasons in Green Bay, has had at least 400 receiving yards, including over 600 in his last two, plus a combined 15 touchdowns. So there is some production. However, as far as a trade target? We aren't sure the Jets would see it as a deal worth doing. The Most Important Packers: No. 22 — Romeo Doubs
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs is trying to bounce back after an up and down 2024 ... More season. The Green Bay Packers went 11-6 last season, sweeping the NFC West and the AFC South along the way. Overall, though, no one in the building was happy. The Packers failed to build on their terrific finish to the 2023 campaign, settled for the No. 7 seed in the NFC playoffs, and lost a Wild Card game to eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia. Afterwards, general manager Brian Gutekunst turned up the heat on everybody in the building. 'We need to continue to ramp up our sense of urgency,' Gutekunst said. 'I think it's time we started competing for championships.' Those are fair expectations. The Packers return 20 of 22 starters, and appear to have upgraded the roster via free agency and the draft. With several third and fourth year players trending upward, Green Bay should be poised to make a move. 'I think they're ready,' Gutekunst said. Now, it's time for the Packers to prove their G.M. right. Green Bay's first training camp practice is July 23. Between now and then I will count down the '30 Most Important Packers' heading into the 2025 campaign. At No. 22 is wide receiver Romeo 22 Romeo Doubs, WR Last season Many expected Doubs to have a breakout 2024 campaign after he had a terrific finish to his 2023 season. That didn't happen, though. Doubs played in 13 games (12 starts) and finished third on the Packers in both catches (46) and receiving yards (601). His four receiving touchdowns ranked fourth on the team. All of those numbers were down from 2023, when Doubs caught 59 passes for 676 yards and eight TDs. Doubs was inactive in Weeks 13-14 due to a concussion. He then suffered another concussion and left the Packers' Wild Card playoff loss to Philadelphia — despite wearing a guardian cap. Doubs was also placed on the reserve/suspended list and missed Green Bay's Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams after going AWOL earlier that week. 'I'm going to be completely honest with you, man, is there some regret behind that?' Doubs said of skipping practices and meetings. 'There is, but obviously what's in the past stays in the past.'Career to date Doubs, a fourth round draft pick in 2022, had an up and down rookie season, with the highs coming early. Eight weeks into his rookie year, Doubs had 30 receptions, 296 yards and three touchdowns. Doubs suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 9, though, and didn't return for six weeks. By then, Christian Watson had emerged as Green Bay's top option and Doubs managed just 11 catches for 111 yards and no TDs in the final four games. Doubs finished his rookie season with 42 receptions, which was fourth on the team. Doubs then took a big jump in 2023 and finished second on the team in catches (59) and yards (674), and tied for the team lead with eight receiving touchdowns. Doubs also ranked No. 4 in the NFL with seven receiving TDs in the red zone Doubs then he had a sensational postseason with 10 receptions, 234 yards and two TDs in two games. His 234 receiving yards were the seventh most in franchise history in a single postseason and the second most by a player with only one or two playoff games, behind Davante Adams (298 yards in two games in 2019).Outlook It's a 'prove it' year for Doubs for several reasons. First, Doubs must show there are no long-term implications from the two concussions he suffered last season. 'I think anytime a guy gets two concussions, I can't help but be concerned about that,' Packers coach Matt LaFleur said at the end of last season. Second, Doubs will try rebounding from a year where he took a step back on the field. And third, Doubs will become a free agent after the season, and try proving to the rest of the NFL he deserves a hefty second contract. Doubs will attempt to do that in a crowded wide receiver room where Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks return, and rookies Matthew Golden and Savion Williams could be immediate contributors. 'My goal going into this year is to be a winner, obviously to be a player within this offense and ultimately to help out the two receivers that are coming in (Golden and Williams),' Doubs Said It … 'It was a long process. Obviously it's very unfortunate to go out of a game with a concussion. I made sure I took care of myself this offseason. I just look forward to my process and progress throughout the course of this year.' — Doubs on battling back from his concussions'I don't know if you guys can tell a difference in his physique, he does look like a specimen out there. He's come in, and he's just worked, and obviously he's played a lot of snaps for us and has had a lot of production. So I'm excited about where he's at.' — Packers coach Matt LaFleur on Doubs'Anytime a guy has a couple concussions back to back, there's some concern there. Not necessarily his long term liability or anything, just for him. No, I would expect him to bounce back and be at his best..' — Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst on DoubsTHE TOP 30 • No. 30 — RB MarShawn Lloyd • No. 29 — WR Dontayvion Wicks • No. 28 — S Javon Bullard • No. 27 — WR Savion Williams • No. 26 — LB Isaiah McDuffie • No. 25 — OL Jordan Morgan • No. 24 — WR Matthew Golden • No. 23 — CB Carrington Valentine

Packers Trade Pitch Sends 1,700-Yard WR To Steelers to Join Aaron Rodgers
Packers Trade Pitch Sends 1,700-Yard WR To Steelers to Join Aaron Rodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs has been one of the most trusted targets for quarterback Jordan Love since he took over as the team's franchise quarterback in 2023. Throughout his career, Doubs has posted 1700 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. Moreover, he recorded at least 64 targets in each of the past three seasons, including 70 in 2024. Advertisement Still, Doubs has yet to develop into a clear No. 1 option in the receiving corps, something many Packers fans believe the team needs heading into 2025. With Doubs entering the final year of his rookie contract, he should feel a strong sense of urgency to deliver results and prove he deserves a second deal with Green Bay. It is anyone's guess whether Doubs will still be with the Packers next year. However, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox sees the wide receiver as a potential trade target this season. Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs (87) rushes for yards against Jacksonville Jaguars safety Darnell Savage (6).© Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images "There's a chance Doubs could be available this season. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract and is likely to face a lot of competition during training camp," Knox wrote. Advertisement "Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks are back, and the Packers used first- and third-round picks on Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, respectively, in April," he added. "If Green Bay decides to move one of its young pass-catchers, Doubs—who topped 600 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons—would be a logical candidate." Knox went on to mention the Pittsburgh Steelers as a landing spot for Doubs, which makes sense given Aaron Rodgers' familiarity with the former Nevada receiver. "The Steelers would be an obvious landing spot for the Nevada product if he is on the move. They need receiver depth, and Rodgers has experience playing with him," Know wrote. "Doubs' rookie season coincided with the veteran's last campaign as a Packer." Doubs and Rodgers played together in 2022, which was Doubs' rookie season. That year, the young receiver logged 42 catches for 425 yards and three touchdowns. The Steelers traded for DK Metcalf this offseason but also dealt George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, so they could be in the market for an affordable option to complement Metcalf in the passing game. Advertisement The most likely scenario is Doubs playing out the final year of his rookie deal in Green Bay. While it could be tough for the Packers to retain him next offseason—especially with six starters potentially hitting the open market—keeping Doubs on the roster for 2024 should be in the team's best interest. When you are aiming to take that extra step toward a championship, you do not trade away a top target.
