Doechii: Rapper is 'walking on the ceiling' after Grammy dream
A top 10 single, Grammy award and a breathing exercise that's gone viral. The last few weeks for American rapper Doechii have been quite something.Or, in her words: "It's like now my dreams aren't dreams anymore. They're reality."I just feel like I'm walking on the ceiling right now," she tells Radio 1's New Music Show.
The 26-year-old won this year's best rap album Grammy for Alligator Bites Never Heal - only the third female artist to do so.And the infectious "breathin' exercise" outro from her hit single Denial is a River has got millions of people trying to emulate the "Uh-uh-ooh, uh-uh-ah, uh, uh, uh, ah…" lyric. After all that, you could forgive her for wanting to take a step back and reflect, but she insists that's not her style. She says her first thought when she woke up, post-Grammy win, was that she "wants to work and get in the studio".
'Don't let people stunt your growth'
Doechii considers making music like "working a muscle" in the gym."Some days you have days where you hit the gym and you're sore and then you have those days where you're really on fire."That's what art is and that's what pushing the pin is for me," she says. The Florida-born artist rose to prominence with the viral 2021 hit Yucky Blucky Fruitcake, after which she toured with SZA and Doja Cat.And she says "at the front of everything" is thinking "a song a day"."It doesn't need to be a good song, it just needs to be a song."And eventually, things will come out and I can make a project out of that."She adds taking "small risks" is important."And you try things little by little, and then eventually those risks get bigger and bigger and bigger."And you trust yourself, you build a confidence and that's kind of how you establish who you are," Doechii says.
When Doechii does have a block in making music, she says it's because "I'm criticising myself"."I'm critiquing the work. And it's like, don't critique the work. Just get the work done and move on."Dealing with criticism, whether it's from herself or outside, is something she's aware of.Her speech after winning her Grammy was recognised for its message to black women."Don't allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you," she told the audience."To tell you that you can't be here, that you're too dark, or that you're not smart enough, or that you're too dramatic, or you're too loud. You are exactly who you need to be, to be right where you are, and I am a testimony right now."Speaking to 1Xtra's Remi Burgz, she adds the intention was to tell people to trust "your inner voice"."And not allowing what other people say… to stunt your growth."
While it has been a joyous past few months, there is a focus on the future. There will be an album, Doechii says, but also dreams of a Super Bowl performance "inspired" by Kendrick Lamar. She says his "story and messaging" was on another level and is "in awe of his ability to create a performance that has a story and message"."But it's still digestible for people. He's a master at that and I'm always inspired."But when she thinks back to a year ago and where she was in her career, she recalls the words of American rapper ScHoolboy Q as advice for anyone in a similar position."You'll know an album is done when you have nothing left to say. You've bared everything."And I think that's a powerful message, because you keep writing until you've gotten it all out," she says.

Buen Camino: American performer takes a 540-mile walk from grief to freedom to Fringe
This August, American writer, performer and career consultant Susan Edsall is set to make her Edinburgh Fringe debut with her heartrending and ultimately liberating tale of how she navigated her way through grief by walking the famous Camino de Santiago. But that all ended when she lost her partner for life and consumed by excruciating pain, she found it impossible to imagine any future worth living. Written and performed by Susan herself and directed by Jessica Lynn Johnson, Buen Camino tells how, in the depths of despair, on an ordinary trip to the grocery store, she heard what she now calls The Voice. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad At that time Susan didn't believe in Voices. And yet, when The Voice told her to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain, she obeyed, despite knowing nothing about this ancient pilgrimage. Buen Camino With only her pack and her pain, Susan embarked on a journey of 540 miles on foot, through unrelenting rain and temperatures that rarely got above 50 degrees. With the help of some improbable Spiritual Guides and the Camino itself, it was only when Susan was forced to face her past that she was able to create her future. Buen Camino, which is set to move and uplift audiences at the Eve Theatre Appleton Tower in Edinburgh throughout August, is Susan's story. It is a personal yet universal chronicle of how grief can take one through surrender and ultimately lead to freedom. A published writer, performer, and career consultant, Susan Edsall grew up in Montana and now lives in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Author of the forthcoming novel Bitterroot, she has also written two memoirs, Into the Blue: A Father's Flight and a Daughter's Return and Saved. She premiered Buen Camino at the SOLO STARS Series in Los Angeles in December 2024, winning their Encore Award. Susan brought the show to United Solo in New York City in March 2025. Katie, 47, showed off her curves and stomach tattoos in the tiny string bikini while splashing around in the waves. After cooling off in the sea, the mum-of-five rehydrated with a coconut water, and covered her shoulders with a white shirt. Katie's Dubai holiday comes shortly after she annoyed her boyfriend JJ Slater by partying with disgraced UFC fighter Conor in Ibiza. JJ, 31, hit the unfollow button on Conor's account after seeing pictures of Katie cosying up to him. She posed for selfies and danced among the crowd in her element alongside celeb pals Wayne Lineker, Jamie O'Hara, Dean and Conor on the White Isle. Conor later posted a photo from the event with Katie, captioning it: "Katie Price Forever." A source told The Sun: 'JJ had been following Conor on social media for around six months. "Katie and JJ went to Ireland a few months ago and Katie took him to Conor McGregor's pub and introduced them. "Katie was already following Conor on socials, and after that he followed her back and JJ also started following Conor. Katie Price reveals she's secured LOOKALIKE egg donors and American sperm donor in bid to have baby number six "Now, after Katie was snapped partying with Conor in Ibiza, JJ has unfollowed Conor. "He didn't like seeing the pictures of them having a whale of a time on the party island, he thought it looked disrespectful.' JJ, who found fame on Married at First Sight UK, has been dating Katie since earlier this year, with the pair recently enjoying a string of PDA-filled outings. She has been vocal about wanting her sixth baby and has secured a donor egg. The former glamour model suffered a devastating failed IVF attempt with her ex Carl Woods, but now has lookalike egg donors and an American sperm donor at the ready so she can welcome a new child into her life when she wants. She told Paul C Brunson's We Need To Talk podcast: "I had IVF and it failed because my eggs are too old. "And then I gave it a go even though the doctor said you've got 1% chance of it working, I said well I might be that 1%, I'm doing it. "So I went through all of it and then it didn't work. I have got donor eggs, I got them last year," she revealed. She went on to say: "I'm not afraid to have a baby on my own and before I met JJ, I was quite happy. "I found a sperm donor from America, from black origin. "I'm going through the pre-menopause at the moment, and so I thought, you can't have kids, but you can. and I've been tested. "I'm all fine. I can still carry babies, so I have got the sperm and I have got the eggs there because I've got everything set up for when I want it." Inside Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's £48m wedding as guests leave early
Branded by some as the 'wedding of the century', Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his new wife Lauren Sanchez splashed out £48million on their big day - small change to the man worth £180 billion Amazon founder Jeff Bezos married his partner of eight years Lauren Sanchez yesterday, with the pair saying their 'I dos' in a £48million star-studded ceremony. Despite threats and protests by anti-capitalists and locals, the day went ahead - although some famous faces didn't hang about, opting for an early dart. The 25-minute wedding ceremony saw the pair exchange vows in front of around 200 guests, including a number of high-profile celebrities. In attendance were the Kardashian-Jenners, Orlando Bloom and Oprah Winfrey, as well as Ivanka Trump and her family. Rania Al Abdullah, the Queen of Jordan also watched on, as did supermodels, actors and business-people. Guests were welcomed by a gospel choir, with the singers performing a rendition of Whitney Houston's Higher Love as the bride and groom entered. Most guests partied well into the early hours of Saturday, but some celebs slipped away early. Kim and Khloe Kardashian left the do early and had already left the country by the time some of the other guests woke up, having being spotted at Venice airport early on Saturday morning. The remaining guests will be celebrating once again on Saturday, when another party is expected to mark what is being described as the 'wedding of the century'. Some of the freebies handed out to guests raised eyebrows though, with Lauren's gift to her party branded "shameless". Jeff kept his favours fancy, giving his male guests ViBi Venezia blue velvet slippers. But Sanchez partook in some shameless marketing, handing out black open-toe slippers from Amazon, promoting the business empire that made her now-husband a billionaire. But while she may have scrimped slightly on the guest's slippers, she made sure no expense was spared for her own attire - donning no less than three dresses for the day. Her wedding gown for the main event was a Dolce & Gabbana number, which reportedly took more the 900 hours to make. The long-sleeved gown had a corseted waist and turtle-neck design, with a mermaid-style skirt. The sophisticated gown boasted 180 hand-finished buttons, covered in silk chiffon, which trailed all the way down the train of the gown. To welcome guests to the wedding reception, legendary singer Andrea Bocelli's son Matteo performed. He belted out a version of Elvis Presley's song I Can't Help Falling in Love With You. Despite their wedding taking place in Venice with their celebrity pals and family, their legal wedding actually took place weeks ago. According to a well-placed insider involved in the event planning, they said: 'They have been married for at least a month, more than a month. The marriage is fully legal and took place in America under American law.' Although this week's events have been billed as the wedding, the source added it's for show. They said: 'When they were planning the wedding, they were clear about the fact that they were already secretly married." Because the legal marriage has already occurred, there was no need for a license in Italy. 'There is no application for a wedding licence from the couple because it was not required. Whatever happens at the wedding on Friday, it will not be a wedding. "Under Italian law, it will not be a wedding celebration, any vows said or rings exchanged will have no legal meaning," they told Mail Online. The same source added that Bezos himself confirmed the legal union and noted the pair had arranged a prenuptial agreement to safeguard his $244 billion fortune. Bezos and Sánchez reportedly married privately in the U.S., well before the high-profile Venetian celebration began.
