Delhi consumer court orders hair transplant clinic to pay Rs 6.3 lakh to man who saw ‘not even 1% improvement'
The complainant, Vivek Kumar, approached the DHI Asian Roots clinic in Safdarjung Enclave in 2012 before his marriage to treat baldness and paid Rs 5 lakh. He alleged before the Commission that he was promised results after 12 months, but even after three sittings, he could not notice 'even 1 per cent improvement' with his receding hairline. He filed a complaint with the Commission in December 2023.
The Commission's order, dated May 22, which followed an 11-year legal battle, directed DHI Asian Roots to refund Rs 5 lakh to Kumar, along with Rs 1 lakh for mental harassment and Rs 30,000 for litigation costs.
'…this Commission is of the considered opinion that there is negligence/ deficiency in service on the part of the opposite parties (DHI) in not providing proper treatment to the complainant despite charging for the same. This is a case where opposite parties transplanted the hairs to cover bald area and created another bald area by over harvesting the donor area,' the Commission held.
'The OP/DHI-Asian Roots, a unit of SPA Yoga Pvt. Ltd… failed to produce any document showing authorization or license to perform modern scientific hair implantation procedures. They also lacked government approval to engage doctors…for such treatments,' held the Commission.
'The procedure conducted amounted to an unfair medical trade practice, carried out without the requisite licenses or specialized expertise, and appeared motivated solely by financial gain,' it added.
Countering Kumar's allegations, DHI Asian Roots argued that it provided professional treatment in accordance with medical standards and that the chances of success had been explained to him.
It also alleged that Kumar's dissatisfaction stemmed from his impatience and his 'disregard for medical advice'. It claimed that Kumar had been informed about the procedure's limitations and that all the pros and cons of the surgery had been explained to him.

CBI probes bribery scam: Telangana medical college trustee & NMC officials accused of paying for approvals
HYDERABAD: In a widening investigation into corruption involving National Medical Commission (NMC) officials, the Central Bureau of Investigation has booked a case against Fr Joseph Kommareddy, trustee of the Father Colombo Institute of Medical Sciences, Warangal. Others named include Venkat, director of Gayatri Medical College, Visakhapatnam, NMC inspection team member P Rajini Reddy, and three others. The FIR alleges that Fr Kommareddy paid substantial bribes through intermediaries to secure favourable inspection reports and regulatory approvals. Six individuals have already been arrested. The CBI is expected to summon Fr Kommareddy, trustees of the Warangal institute, the diocesan administrator, and the former chairman of the trust for questioning. NMC officials and Gayatri College directors will also face scrutiny. The case involves charges under Prevention of Corruption Act, including criminal conspiracy and bribery. It is linked to an earlier case in Chhattisgarh, where three doctors and three middlemen were arrested for taking bribes for favourable inspection reports.

One held, jewellery worth Rs 6L recovered
Vijayawada: In a major breakthrough, Gunadala Police have apprehended a habitual offender involved in multiple theft cases and recovered stolen property worth approximately Rs 6 lakh, including 60 grams of gold and 50 grams of silver ornaments. Acting on the directions of NTR District Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu and under the supervision of In-Charge DCP KGV Saritha, the Central Division ACP D Damodara Rao led a special investigation with Gunadala Police Station Inspector Vasireddy Srinivasa Rao and his team. Special surveillance teams were deployed to monitor the movements of suspected thieves in the area. The police arrested the accused Uyyala Rajesh (24), a resident of Ajit Singh Nagar, Vijayawada. During the vehicle check near the Government Hospital, police noticed a suspicious individual attempting to flee. He was immediately apprehended and interrogated by the police. During questioning, the accused confessed to his involvement in multiple thefts. A school dropout and former daily wage labourer, Rajesh turned to crime to fund a lavish lifestyle. He had previously been arrested by Gunadala Police in a theft case in September 2024 and was released on bail in January 2025, after which he continued committing burglaries. A known repeat offender, he currently has 12 theft cases registered against him. In the past four months, he has been involved in thefts across the state and under the police station limits of Patamata, Rajolu, Nuzvid, Narsapuram, and Naidupeta. The arrest was made possible through coordinated efforts and the use of technical surveillance tools, said the Central zone ACP D Damodara Rao.

Daal Mein Kala… Rachakonda police cranks up drive against food adulteration
In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Rachakonda Police conducted raids across multiple locations on Thursday. Police booked 46 cases and arrested 52 persons involved in the illegal trade of manufacturing adulterated ginger garlic, ghee, and paneer. The Rachakonda Special Operations Teams conducted a special drive on food and allied products manufacturing units where the adulteration of food products or manufacturing of food product units without FSSAI license and other necessary permissions. Following the instructions of Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu, the raids were conducted on manufacturing units. During the raids conducted on Wednesday huge quantities of ginger garlic paste, ghee, paneer and other different food products were seized which are prepared without FSSAI license and under un- hygienic conditions. The adulterated manufactured products are being supplied in and around GHMC area, in addition to that one immunity boosting powder & tablets manufacturing unit was also verified which was also violating certain conditions. 'A total of 46 cases have been registered on food manufacturing units, many of which were being sold under counterfeit labels of reputed brands. This leads to the arrest of 52 persons,' said a police officer. During the raids several violations were noticed in addition to the unhygienic preparation of food products, such as manufacturing food products without FSSAI license and the sale and distribution of food products without trade license. Additionally, the products were being prepared under unhygienic conditions, using expired raw material for preparation of food products, lack of manufacturing and expiry dates and use of banned synthetic food colours. Moreover the units were using child labour at some places. Police seized 575 ltrs of ghee in LB Nagar, 3,946 kgs of ginger garlic in Masheshwaram, 3,037 kgs of ginger garlic, immunity boosting tablets & powders (Vitamin & Protein) – all worth Rs 10,00,000 in Malkajgiri, and 250 kgs paneer in Bhongir. In addition to these major seizures, various other food products like adulterated milk, turmeric powder, Dhaniya powder, sweets, biscuits, ice creams, mineral water, bakery items were also seized during the raids. Police appealed to the citizens that the preparation of food products without proper Food Safety and Standards Authority of India license, trade license and preparation of food products under unhygienic conditions is a grave violation and might seriously affect the health of the consumers leading to illness and other medical conditions. An appeal is hereby given to the citizens to check the manufacturing date and expiry date of the food products before purchasing. It is also requested the citizens to give information on food product manufacturing units which are violating the food safety and standards through call or WhatsApp on 8712662666.
