An all-Australian cast has been confirmed for Peppa Pig's Fun Day Out LIVE! with Zoe Crisp (Avenue Q, We Will Rock You) cast as Peppa Pig in the upcoming tour this June/July school holidays.
The New Zealand premiere follows a smash hit season in London's West End, and is the first time Peppa Pig has graced New Zealand stages since 2018.
The rest of the multi-talented, infectiously fun cast includes Romy Juliette Glass (Legally Blonde; Universal Studios Singapore roles) as Daisy; Maddison Price (Queensland Pop Orchestra, QPAC's The Wizard of Oz in Concert) as Suzy Sheep; Jake Waterworth (Tigger in Disney's Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Adaptation) as Danny Dog.
Joining them are Zuleika Khan (PAW Patrol Live, Offspring, Please Like Me) as Mummy Pig and Miss Rabbit; Jacqui Dwyer (Disney's Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Adaptation) as George; with Daddy Pig played by Benjamin Richards (Heathers, Cry Baby).
Titular star Zoe Crisp remembers growing up watching the Peppa Pig TV show with her twin brother: 'My brother and I related very much to Peppa and George's sibling relationship. I was a tiny bit bossy and he didn't have a lot of words,' says Zoe.
A WAAPA graduate with a range of professional credits, Zoe recently toured with the National Theatre for Children, playing various characters with lots of silly voices (an evil cat, a dopey dog and plenty more!). In her free time, Zoe passionately supports causes to conserve our wildlife for future generations.
'Peppa Pig has captured hearts for so many years. The characters are so loved and iconic – I can't wait to bring the magic that is Peppa Pig to life on stage!' says Zoe.
New Zealand audiences are proving just how much they really adore Peppa Pig and her oinktastic adventures, with the tour adding extra shows for Auckland since the first extension was announced in March before Peppa Pig and Friends hit Wellington, Christchurch and finally, Hamilton.
Presented by TEG Life Like Touring and Fierylight, the stage show is based on the much-loved animated series. Peppa Pig is currently the #1 kids show on Nick Jr. and #2 on ABC Kids Australia, while the show's theme song received a whopping 165 million views in just six months of 2024.

Music fans would also be well served, with The Best of the Bee Gees yesterday becoming the latest tribute act to announce a Rotorua show. A media release said the Australian act would bring their two-act Greatest Hits and Saturday Night Fever Show performance to the Sir Howard Morrison Centre on August 12. The North Island tour is the first time visiting New Zealand for the group, which has been performing for 26 years. Other tribute acts visiting Rotorua this year include Creedence Clearwater Collective, Dancing in the Shadows of Motown, The Fleetwood Mac Experience, Queen: It's a Kind of Magic, Tina: The Ultimate Tribute To The Queen of Rock 'N' Roll, and Taylor: A Tribute to the Eras of Taylor Swift.

Queenstown crime drama 'huge hit' overseas
A second series of Queenstown-based TV murder-mystery drama A Remarkable Place to Die is set to be shot in the resort from this November till the end of April. The first series, filmed during the first half of last year, has enjoyed excellent viewer numbers in New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Germany, as well as on video-on-demand (VOD). Local-based Screentime NZ CEO Philly de Lacey, whose company co-produced the first four-part series with Germany's Real Film Berlin, says she can't comment at this stage. However, Mountain Scene understands a new five-part series is close to being officially green-lit, providing once again a huge shot in the arm for Queenstown, not only for the spend in the resort for the duration of the shoot but in terms of promoting the destination, and NZ, to an international audience. De Lacey says ratings for the first season, which had a budget of about $15million, exceeded expectations. "In NZ it performed phenomenally well, and then the Australian audience exceeded our expectations, with really strong viewing numbers in prime time." It's subsequently been shown in the US — "we were absolutely thrilled with the audience reception to it" — before debuting last month in Germany, where it's titled Queenstown Murders with the sub-title Drop-Dead Gorgeous. "We've hit a really broad demographic, sort of young and old audiences." In an email last month to various bigwigs, including Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, De Lacey relates how A Remarkable Place to Die launched on Germany's ZDF with 2.5 million viewers and a 17.6% channel share, as against an average 15%, in addition to very strong VOD numbers. "It has now been a huge hit in Australia, NZ, the US and Germany, and couldn't be a better calling card/advertisement for NZ, showcasing the stunning scenery of Otago. "In the US, [ selected it in the top five shows to watch on Acorn [in April]." De Lacey tells Scene its success stems from both its genre — "I mean, it's cosy crime, or chocolate box crime" — and having Queenstown as "an absolutely stand-out location". She also reflects on the downstream benefits from last year's shoot, which took just over 70 days. "When you think of all the different sectors film work touches, from construction to medical, to catering, accommodation, choppers, everything, our tentacles spread very wide. "We tried to hire as many people locally as we could but probably about two-thirds [out of about 140 cast and crew] were from out of town, so we're housing people here for six months." De Lacey says locals "just opened their doors to us and helped with props, helped with everything — we felt a lot of love in making the series". That first series also benefited from the producers leasing the former H&J Smith's department store at Frankton's Remarkables Park, which had just become vacant, for wet-weather cover, housing the crew and accommodating four sets, including a police station and a morgue. Since then, Screentime NZ's leased it full-time as Remarkable Studios NZ, for use by any production company. Ahead of A Remarkable Place's second series, Screentime's also shooting there its own cooking competition series, Taste of Art.

Country Artist Ben Mastwyk Releases Let Me At The Night, The Title-Track From His New Album
Ben Mastwyk, the Australian cosmic cowboy and interstellar troubadour, is fast approaching launch time for the release of his fourth album, Let Me At The Night, on July 18th. Mastwyk's latest single is the title track, a heartfelt country power ballad that captures the restless spirit of someone yearning to break free from isolation and return to the vibrant nightlife they once knew. Ultimately, it's about the human need for connection, expression, and the freedom to pursue the experiences that make us feel most alive. As Mastwyk explains, at its core, the soulful ' Let Me At The Night ' uses night as a metaphor for dreams, freedom, and the life the narrator desperately wants to return to. " The 'night' represents more than just evening hours—it embodies the energy, connection, and joy found in Melbourne's country music scene and in the broader expression of honky-tonk culture. The narrator's plea to be "let at the night" becomes a cry for permission to chase their dreams and break through the barriers holding them back. What emerges is both a love letter and a battle cry!" In the song, we follow the protagonist, trapped in isolation, vividly recalling the glory days of barroom dancing and late-night revelry. The verses, draped in acoustic guitar and pedal steel, paint intimate portraits of a tight-knit community—the dancers who came alive when the band played George Jones, the smokers gathering in the cold night air, the familiar faces in every local haunt. These memories stand in stark contrast to the present-day reality of sitting alone with just a guitar and a sleeping dog for company. Let Me At The Night is a bit of a fantasy record for Ben Mastwyk. He really discovered the DNA of his band The Millions over the last few records, and this time, they all wanted to push the boundaries. Mastwyk was lucky enough to receive funding through a Creative Victoria Creative Works grant, which allowed him to really lean in and record the album he wanted to make, without cutting corners. Working with producer Michael Hubbard at The Shrimp Shack studio in Melbourne, Mastwyk initially set out to make a '90s country-inspired record—and in a way, he did. But instead of sticking strictly to that particular sonic palette, he found himself leaning back into the genre-bending, experimental approach he first explored with his original band in the actual '90s. " It's still a country record in my eyes: narrative-based songs that explore the themes I've been circling in my writing for years," he says. " But we've really dialled up the experimentalism—pushed our sonic palette further than we ever have before!" The songs are more anthemic—designed to kick the party off right from the get-go and sustain that energy till the end (and beyond). Mastwyk recently got the chance to test this new material live at the Tamworth Country Music Festival across three huge nights. And it worked. Big party energy. A crowd ready to rumble! " Each time I've made a record, I've had a space and an audience in mind. My first album Mornin' Evenin' was written for small rooms, intimate spaces, and quiet Sunday mornings. The next couple were made for Melbourne barrooms—the venues I was in love with at the time. This album, though, was written with festivals and bigger crowds in mind." With a thematic arc that runs across the album, it picks up where the last few records left off, in the barroom, then blasts off further and further into space. " I've always visualised this album as a spaceship—with the whole point being to see if I can get it to lift off and hit warp speed." From hot-wired boogie to rhinestone pop, honky-tonk electronic disco to country space-ballads, Shania to Yoakam, George Jones to Orville Peck – the new album serves as a kaleidoscopic ode to the possibilities of country music. Filtered through both heartache and the dance floor, it's a truly mind-expanding and irresistible collection of songs, from an artist firing on all creative cylinders.
