Karnataka HC directs bus unions to defer proposed indefinite strike from tomorrow for negotiations
'If the entire public transport operation is stalled, the public are likely to be put to hardship. Therefore, it would be appropriate to grant interim stay till tomorrow awaiting the outcome of negotiations with the Government referred to above. Hence respondent No.7 is hereby directed to put on hold their proposed strike till next hearing date,' a division bench said in an interim order while posting the matter for hearing on Tuesday.
The court was informed that the unions issued a notice for an indefinite strike on July 15 and that 'conciliation meetings were held on 28.07.2025 and 02.08.2025 and that process is still on'. 'It is also submitted that today the meeting of respondent No.7 (Joint Action Committee) and the Chief Minister are also going on,' the court noted.
The court issued the order after a Bengaluru resident, Sunil J, filed a petition opposing the strike on the grounds of widespread inconvenience to the public.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, meanwhile, held a meeting with the Joint Action Committee of the unions on Monday and assured them that no injustice would be done.
'A few rounds of meetings have already been held with representatives of various organizations of the transport corporation. It is possible to resolve the issues through mutual talks. The Chief Minister appealed to withdraw the movement called for tomorrow,' read a statement issued by the chief minister's office after the meeting.
'In 2016, when I was the Chief Minister, I revised the salary. At that time, 12.5 percent was increased. Then in 2020, due to Covid, the then (BJP) government did not revise the salary. There was a salary revision agreement when the previous government was in power on 01-03-23. At that time, it was decided to revise the basic salary by 15 percent,' Siddaramaiah said in the statement.
'The committee formed under the chairmanship of Srinivas Murthy (retired IAS officer) regarding salary revision had recommended that the arrears of salary be paid from 01-1-22 to 28-2-23. Transport representatives also appeared before the committee and submitted their report. The government has accepted the recommendation of the Srinivasa Committee. You should also accept the recommendations of the said committee,' he added.
Based on the committee's recommendations, the BJP Government issued a notification in March 2023, the chief minister said, while adding that the demand for arrears for 38 months was 'not reasonable'. 'When we came to power (May 2023), all the corporations had a total debt of Rs 4,000 crore. In 2018, only Rs 14 crore was outstanding. Currently, no transport corporation is in profit. The government will not do injustice to anyone. All corporations should cooperate. The government is ready to resolve all grievances through talks,' he said.

However, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a dedicated ministry was established, giving the sector national priority. The minister said that in Andhra Pradesh, agriculture and cooperatives are two crucial sectors, and economic support is key to their growth. He noted that APCOB has expanded its services beyond just loans to include providing agricultural inputs, and even running medical stores and petrol stations, which contribute significantly to rural economic infrastructure. The minister also highlighted the success of the DWCRA model, which was introduced under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's leadership and has now become a national example. He said nearly one crore women are engaged in cooperative transactions worth Rs 42,000 crore. However, most of these transactions are currently handled by private banks. The minister assured that plans will be developed to route these transactions through Apcob and its affiliates, which would offer lower interest rates than private banks. He concluded by urging all stakeholders to work together to advance the cooperative sector and expressed hope that Apcob would achieve greater heights in the future. Uttam tears into BRS, says rank irregularities at all levels in KLIP
Hyderabad: State Irrigation Minster N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday disclosed findings of the Judicial Commission on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, directly blaming former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for bypassing rules, ignoring expert warnings, and plunging the State into Rs 84,000 crore of high-interest debt. In a powerpoint presentation after the cabinet meeting, Uttam said the Commission's 660-page report, led by former Supreme Court judge Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, exposed how Telangana's most expensive project became an engineering and financial disaster due to unilateral and illegal decisions made during the BRS regime. 'We had promised the people that a judicial inquiry would be ordered into the Medigadda barrage collapse. After coming to power, we formed a Commission headed by Justice Ghose, and now that report has been submitted,' Uttam said. 'It clearly says KCR acted not as Chief Minister but as an administrative head issuing direct orders that went against institutional processes.' Quoting from the report, Minister Uttam said: 'The Commission has held that there is rank irregularity from the stage of conceptualisation of the project till the administrative approvals on March 1, 2016. These decisions were not those of the government, but of individuals.' He said the decision to shift the barrage from Tummidihatti to Medigadda was made solely by KCR, under the false pretext of water unavailability. 'The report says the reason for abandoning Tummidihatti does not appear sincere or honest,' Uttam added. The Minister reminded that even Union Minister Uma Bharti had confirmed water availability at Tummidihatti and the Central Water Commission (CWC) had approved the hydrology of the Pranahita-Chevella project in October 2014. 'But KCR's government wrote to the Centre saying there was no water, and that misrepresentation was found to be malicious by the Commission,' Uttam said. Minister Uttam revealed that an expert committee constituted by KCR's own government via G.O. Rt. No. 28 in January 2015 had recommended that building a barrage at Medigadda was unviable and not economical. 'They clearly said the barrage should be built at Vemanapally instead. That report was deliberately kept aside,' he said. 'The Commission observes that the suppression of this report was not accidental. It was done with intent to allow the CM and Irrigation Minister to go ahead with Medigadda against all expert advice,' he noted. Uttam Kumar Reddy laid out the timeline: 'The Medigadda barrage agreement was signed in 2016. The Kaleshwaram project was inaugurated in 2019. By October 21, 2023, Pillar 20 of Medigadda's Block-7 collapsed due to structural failure.' He said the Commission endorsed the NDSA's findings which cited serious planning and design flaws. 'The barrage was built on a permeable foundation, unsuitable for a storage structure. A cavity filled with soil was found instead of sand. Only 7,498 concrete samples were tested instead of the 37,000+ required,' he quoted from the report.

The former minister said that out of 85 pillars in Medigadda, two were partially damaged and there were 66 pillars in Annaram and 74 in Sundilla. Except for three, all the others fine?
